Recently, i discovered damien rice was headlining next to coldplay at witness this year. twice before have i seen damo play live, once last year at witness (with a pretty big crowd) and another time in galway in a bar about two years ago with about 20 peoplethere. both were amazing experiences and he really does deliver. i've watched damien grow in the music world, in fact he's like my little musical brother or something. (what? i'm crazy) but to see somebody move from 20 people to (hopefully) 20,000 people should be pretty darn cool. so everybody, i ask you all now, to join me in this remarkable event, damien rice @witness 2003!!

Yes Aisling I agree, I already have my ticket and Damien, Paddy Casey, The Streets and The White Stripes are the only acts I really want to see. Hopefully Damien will play Lisdoonvarna as well!

Yes we are definatly going to have to go to Witnness!!! I saw Damien about 3 weeks ago at a small gig in Cobh Arts Centre luckily i have friends in high places and got a ticket to the gig which had been sold out for weeks!! it was brill, really small and intimate but i want to see him on that big stage.

like Aisling ive been a fan since the beginning and have a friend who quite close to damo so ive met him, hes a great guy and superb musician, the whole world should know!!!! Lets brian wash everyone to damos music

I agree he has come a long way..........but thatis what makes our greatest Irish acts great. they play better in more intimate surroundings!!! wouldnt you rather see the likes of Mundy, The Frames, Mark Geary or Paddy casey in a more acoustic friendly gig??

I still wish Damo all the best......<img border="0" src= "http://www.freecfm.com/d/damien/forum/smileys/smiley8.gif">and come on Witnness 2003

Yeah I would prefer to see small acoustic gigs but I live in Clare and nothing like that ever happens here. Its always in Dublin and Cork, the main counties, not the bogger ones.

I completely agree! The first time i seen damien i was about 5ft away from him, sittinon a dodgy bench, less than 50 people in the place andit was the best gigive been to! Im soo happy for him for comin so far in the music world, but i admit to prefering the smaller gigs, more intimate r somethin.Just call me selfish!!

Lads this is all completly true great up close and personal but Daamien has some great rockin songs that need the space and technology a big stage can offer. Not until you experience that can you truly say you love his music!

Did anyone here see Beck in Dublin Im a hugh fan of his but didnt get to go, it was acoustic just him no band and the only time i saw him was witnness with a massive stage show! This senario is the other way round I want to see him in smaller venues and Damo in bigger ones! This might never happen cause thats the nature of the music game you get bigger or you disappear!!

And none of us would want that? Right??

first time i saw Damien was at the instore in HMV Grafton Street. i was sitting crosslegged about 6 foot from him and lisa. it was worth getting soked for. it was really brilliant. and i got him to sign my album and he drew a scary picture of me

Ive been to the bigger gigs aswell(olympia being the biggest) and yeh its true that theres plenty of room 4 band etc, but when it came down to it, the effect was the same inboth gigs, except that in the olympia he look bout 4inches high,i couldnt get better seats.Fair play to him for goin so far, but there was a certain personalness aboutthat smallsession that cant be gotten in the bigger venues, Again thats me bein selfish.

i agree with jane doe. most of us who have seen him, we have seen him play small gigs and yeah they were the best experiences but imagine thousands of other poeple around you all knowing the words to volcano and shouting along and new people just discovering him imagine it. you say he was more personal and intimate at small gigs, well. its not like that's gonna be taken away those small gigs will stick with you. trust me on this one. and if witnness is sh*t then i promise you all can rip off all my limbs. now theres a sacrifice i dont wanna make...

i dont doubt for one millisecond that witness is gonna be the best, i know it will, not just with damien but paddy casey, the frames, the line up speaks for itself!Cant believe that alot of the people we'll see in the crowd we'll have probably comunicated with in one way r another, on one of these sights, and wont even knw it. But all Im sayin is, for me, the smaller gigsor sessions will always be the ones ill race to.(excludin witness which is gonna be the business!)

fiona thats the exact thing that pisses me off when damo plays bigger venues... i was used to the intimate smaller community of fans who didnt need to shout out the words to proove how much they liked him.. they were just there to appreciate him and let him do the singing... at the olympia gigs and especially at the fair trade gig there were complete arseholes beside me singing eskimo with the worst knacker accent and the most un-trained singing voice and it completely ruined the amazing experience of a damien rice gig

Thats true about the shouting out lyrics thing but any Damo gig ive been to there is always someone just behind me half huming half singing along and you end up not hearing the singer, why you paid in to a small venue and gig!! AndI know we all want to sing it out loud cause we're used to it in the bedroom, its just some dont realise they are during the gigand also that we can all hear!
