Perhaps he has Mr./Ms. sound engineer put the gain on the PA up, or something, Could be a line effect too??

in Dallas he used kinda the same thing Bon Jovi used on "It's My Life" for the "wow-o-wow" voice part..

i thought his non-vocal mic is what he uses for his looping?

smileys/smiley5.gif I'm a little confused as to what you mean Ali?

As far as I'm aware, he uses 3 mics:

1 for main vocals
1 for distorted vocals (both into the same input)

1 in his guitar (that he uses together with the pickup, and why you'll see 2 leads coming out).

i hear he uses a vibrator (whose i don't know) to get the distorted sounds.smileys/smiley8.gif

when he plays live he uses a foot pedal called a line 6 delay modeler and he loops both his vocals and guitar through this. for example at the end of "Volcano" he does it. i'm pretty sure that the mic is just distorted cos it's an oldish mic and i'm pretty sure it's that mic he uses when he does his looping.

No no, I'm fully aware of that (I think I replied to you on the official boards about the dl4?). I'm just not sure by what you mean by his 'non-vocal mic used for looping'?
His only non-vocal mic is the one he uses in his guitar. This and the pickup output are combined and both do go through a dl4 along the way, yep.

But I just wasn't understanding how this related to the distortion mic, and figured I'm probably misunderstanding you?

From my own observations, I've noticed the second mic he uses for distortion doesn't have a windshield on it, but a type of wrap made of plastic or something similar. He pulled the plastic further away once to make the sound more distorted. I know materials like that make very shrill vibrations, so it makes sense to me that the human voice would vibrate the wrapping in such a way as to vibrate the air inside enough to let the coil inside the mic pickup a distorted sound we hear.

I only saw one distortion pedal on stage, and that was the one he was using for his guitar.

I'd love Damien to finally answer this once because it's come up a lot here.

I heard once he has the distortion mic amplified through tomos arse and thus doesnt need to use the line6 delay for it, he can also by using this method repeat his voice octaves higher or lower depending on what tomo has ate that day.

I heard that theory before, yes. It adds yet another possibility!
