Lyrical Interpretations

This will be a lot to ask, and thanks to those whom have already helped, but does anyone know most all the interpretation of all the 'O' songs. Especially 'Volcano' and 'Cold Water'...and 'Amie'

Cold water is supposed to be about turning to god in times of despair when your on the edge and nothing else seems to help, god is alwaysthere etc. personnally I think its about swimming in the sea in Ireland cause its feckin freezin most of the time! anyway I think the important thing is what it means to you and not what its supposed to mean if you know what I mean! <img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley2.gif">

Gally, where as that it is true, I should interpret it how I want, I still believe in preserving an artist's art. I would just feel better if I knew I could relate to a song because that is what its original intent was. Though thank you very much for the cold water explanation. It is one of my favorite songs. How cold is the water in Ireland. Do you guys (Irish citizens) ever able to go to the beach and have fun, with the sun shining?

Yeah Natasha it gets warm in the summer great weather here at the moment so its not too bad, and waves are pretty good on the west coast so u can go surfing any time with a wetsuit. At witnness damien was saying that "I remember" started out as a happy song kinda folk song after meeting a girl at the local celbridge GAA (football) club and he was in great form walking home and started writing a song "I remember it well the first time that I saw..." anyway he thought it was pretty sh*te and didnt think much more of it" anyway turns out that the girl he was singing about later screwed him over basically and he turned itinto an angry song which he also thought was sh*te! anyway in the studio he decided to mess around and put the two songs together and came up with "I remember" so I hope thay helps, take it easy, Shane

This probably sounds ridiculous but I think Volcano is about a young girl's infatuation with Damo, she read too much into a shared embrace and it meant far more to her than Damo himself.


Does anyone else think it is more than a coincidence that "Amie" is French for a female friend? Is this what the song is about or, like the Volcano girl, am I reading too much into things?

i dont like to try and take apart the lyrics to analyse them... i just leave them as they are and interpret them whatever way i want to... it doesnt matter to me what the singer meant by them i just enjoy making my own presumtions<img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley1.gif">

I've heard someone mention that "Volcano" seems to them to be that of a guy (or maybe Damien, from a past experience) who had slept with a girl and it was just a one night stand with no strings attached. However, she thought it was more than that and looked at it as love, and he implies she's tooyoung to understand it was just sex. That's what someone I know of came up with and to me it makes sense. Just thought I'd mention it...

jbalogh, his Eskimo Friend is a friend of his from Finland, who looks a bit like an Eskimo. He was writing the song while depressed that he couldn't write a good song (!) and she had just left and he saw her picture... somethinglike that.
