I see in the news section that Louis Walsh has tipped Damien for success...

For those who don't know him, Louis is 'Mr Pop' in Ireland having launched such global acts as BoyZone, Westlife, Samantha Mumba and Bellefire... and also now GirlsAloud the UK PopRivals girl band.

My question is this... is Damiens career now over as a credible artist?? Will Louis lure Damien into plastic-pop... 'fix' his hair... and turn Lisa into a pop-tart??

Okay, I don't think there's any danger, but is this a sign that Damien has reached the 'tipping point' and is transitioning over to mainstream recognition?

Yeah, knew this was gonna happen sooner or later! now its starting to take off. Dont value Lousie Walsh's opinion on anything musicalthough. The bloke can stick to what he knows, manufactured tallentless cr*p!!

How is someone in his position only saying this now! Jumping on the band wagon (excuse the pun), of Damo's and the bands success. Why didnt he say this ages ago? Some talent spotter!

(Dont know if anyone spotted but i hate the bloke!)

To be fair, I just listened to the show (2hrs 33 mins into the show) and Louis is asked who to watch out for... he listed a fair few, including Frames, Damien, Mundy... and said that he thinks they should be given more of a chance. He just said they should be given more air-time...

He says he only does pop, but thinks someone should take on all these great bands/individuals and nurture their talent.

although I don't think from his other comments that he really understands howthe frames/damienwork... seems to think that they won't get big if they don't do it the way he does... he'll be in for a surprise.

Although to be fair he said that Gerry (and all djs) should play more Irish records.

And I can't say I hate the guy, he does his job well... you don't have to respect the artists he works with, but you have to respectanybody who doestheir job well.

He's a bit late in suggesting the frames,i mean how many years have they been around now?

He's not suggesting them as acts that are about to make it... He said they already ARE great, and deserve more air-time... surely we can all agree with him on that!?<IMG style="WIDTH: 31px; HEIGHT: 23px" height=18 src= "smileys/smiley5.gif">

Totally agree with that! They arent given enough air-time but thats down the the fact that radio stations mainly only concentrate on the top 20 charts. They'll wake up and start playing them all when they realise this wave of Homegrown tallent thats taking over! (and i mean proper Irish talent, not Westlife or Samantha Mumba......and i'm also glad to see that that Irish popstars show which he had a part of, didnt add to the already pathetic face of UK and US influenced Irish pop).

Hes really just admitted to the stupidity of irish radio which no one can deny. Mr rice gets a bit of success and its like a lightbulb goes off-oh wait, theres really good irish artists out there we could be playing? Em, duh! I work in radio and its my mission to get real music on the radio. Not that theres not a place for everything, but at the mo all the stations are the same. There are two new licenses for stations up in october though and hopefully we'll get at least one new decent station out of that.

Much as I hate the guy he has said that David Bowie is his favourite musician and after seeing the video for "There There" declared "Now thats real music" or something to that effect

the reason louis takes on "manufactured crap" etc. is because hes a businessman and theres f**kall wrong with that. He probably has very good taste in music but knows what will sell so he backs that. Whats your problem? Most are just hoppin on the bandwagon to be "cool".

To be honest I find all this slagging of Louis Walsh unecessary and hypocritical, after reading complaints about musical snobbery regarding the pitchforkmedia review of O. He might produce pop music but that doesn't mean his ears are closed to any other sort of music and for someone is his position to sit up and take note of something so very different to his music shows a more open mind than some of the people here.
