I'm looking [like preman] to purchase an acoustic as well, but i'm only wanting to spend around 400 dollars. (200-300 pounds?) And i'd like one that sounds a bit like Damien. I have an old, crappy Yamaha right now...what do you guys think would be the best bang for the buck?

Hmm...take a look at a bit higher end Yamahas, Takemines, Seagull, and
Alvarez guitars. A lot of great guitars in that price range from those
companies, I think, but I haven't looked in forever.

just a few to start your search...

$419 - carvin c250s http://www.carvin.com/products/cobalt.php

$299 - alvarez ad60k http://www.music123.com/Alvarez-AD60K-i46296.music

i've never played the alavarez but i do like their products for the most part... i love that carvin... i'm partial to cedar tops and i've played that one and i was very very impressed for the price

i'm also selling one of my acoustics if you're interested... martin d-15 mahogany customized by yours truly (gold grover tuners, lr baggs ibeam pickup, gold strap button) but i'm look to get at least $600 for it... Edited by: coreybyrnes

yeah, Carvin and Alvarez makepretty good guitars for the cost. Be sure to get one that at least has a solid top.

Also, the Martin D-15 is a gorgeous sounding guitar. Very warm. All solidmahogany I think. And with the ibeam, how could you go wrong? I would definately consider that over an Alvarez or Carvin. (and no, I don't knowcoreybyrnes, nor am I getting a cut from the sale of his guitar. lol smileys/smiley2.gif)

turns out i'm not selling my martin anymore... i recorded a quick version of cannonball with it last night and i decided to keep it as my studio guitar cause plugged straight into my pc it sounds pretty darn good...

i would also check out seagull guitars... they make some cedar tops (which i'm partial to) and they can come with lr baggs pickups built in them (i'm also partial to lr baggs electronics)...

here's one for example... it doesn't have any electronics though:

here are two with lr baggs electronics:

ps - i would not necessarily buy from ebay, but if you talk to the seller before buying and he can guarantee it's a perfect condition guitar and he'll take it back if it's not you expected you could go for it... i'm always hesitant buying off ebay unless it's something that can't vary from piece to piece (like effects pedals, forks, and wedding dresses)Edited by: coreybyrnes

i agree in looking into higher end yamaha.. also check out the lower priced fender acoustic/electrics.. they play well.. i had my friend buy one a few months ago for $300. check out the name Tacoma as well..

The Fender acoustic/electrics are terrible in my opinion. At the price
range you're looking at, it'd be best to get a normal acoustic and then
add the electronics later because of the sacrifice of quality on the
guitar.

Tacoma's are pretty good, though. :) G'luck!

i'd back up the tacoma recommendation if you can find one cheap enough for your price range... the guy who owns the company use to work for taylor but left because they were starting to flake out so he started up tacoma... i've never played their lower end guitars though...

i'd also say that fender and yamaha acoustics are not really the way to go... i dunno... it's just my personal preference... not the best woods and construction and love put into them as some other brands out there... as a result of those three things not being put into the production of the guitars i think they lack the quality that should be there even if you're simply spending $400...

20 hours left and still under $300... man i am tempted to buy this one! haha, another acoustic is the last thing i need though...Edited by: coreybyrnes

Damn Corey, that is a nice lookin guitar. You may have some competition if you're going to be bidding. I shouldn't be spending money on anything right now, as I don't have a job solidified yet and my car needs a few repairs, but that is very very tempting...
