It was first a book (that Damien I think claimed not to have read) and that is what is referred to in Amie... "read me 'the story of O'"... but apparently 'O' for the album came about independently...

it sounds like double coincidence, Amie --- 'the story of O', then--- 'O', full of mysterysmileys/smiley4.gif

'the story of o' is an erotic novel, primarilyabout submission and dominance fromi think the 19th century. i think it was kinda groundbreaking stuff back then that wasn't released untill the 60'ies (at least here in denmark).

damien has said he didn't even know about that book (+apparently there's a movie too) when he wrote amie, so it wasn't on his mind back then. but even so: is it perverted to write about a book like that? i mean, just because he writes about dominance/submission does not mean he's personally into that sort of thing. could be a sort of image on what goes on in a relationship underneath the surface.

and even if he was into s/m, would that be any of our business? i don't want to point fingers here, but frankly the title of this thread offended me. is damo perverted? it's not up to any of us to judge about that, is it? smileys/smiley5.gif

(sorry to be all bitchy, i don't accuse anyone of being bad people or anything, i just felt i had to question this)

Hey I've read The Story of O and Return to the Chateau and I'm trying
to get my hands on Confessions of O....and I'm not perverted.
I'ts actually quite interesting stuff, it's incredibly graphic and you
have to just have an open mind understanding that sexuality is a part
of life, normal stuff. Although everything that goes on in the
book is not normal, the story is more about what's going on with O,
it's more a psychological story, you are left wondering and
questioning...it's a "why" kind of story. I even made my best
friend read it just so I could have someone to talk to about it.
What's really interesting is the story behind the book, the author and
her identity and how it was kept secret for decades. I read it
simply because of Damiens reference and I'm glad I did...it really
makes you think. I haven't seen the movie because I wasn't sure
how it would be interpreted for the screen...if the wrong people got a
hold of the story I think it could be really bad trashy porn.

damo's only perverted if you think that jeff buckley is perverted for writing "hallelugha" (sorry i cant spell!) which is quite obviously about having (or not having as the case may be!) an orgasm.

This is from an interview I have downloaded:

Why did you call the album 'O'?

DR: I have no idea. I was cycling on my bicycle and it came into my
head, and I just went "I like that." And again, it's one of these
things, it's like songs, it's like "why did I write this lyric?" I have
no idea. Ya know, with me, words just sort of fall out in a way that I
genuinely, really genuinely feel sometimes like I don't actually write
them. It's just like vomitting. Really. Ya know, it's just like, it
comes out and then afterwards I look back and I go "Alright." And it's
the same with the title. I was on a bike and it was just "O". I wasn't
even thinking about it but just "O" came into my head. And then when I
thought about it afterwards I thought oh, God, yeah, it's so suited
because it's about an album with really simple songs, it was done
really simply in a really organic, simple way, and "O" was very simple.
And it's all about relationships that, em, that, ya know, are kind of
f*cked up in a way. That just keep going around in circles, keep making
the same mistakes over and over. Ya know, you can make up all these...
all these stupid things came to me afterwards, but they're not the
reasons. I just liked it, and that was it.
