Philadelphia Appearances

Lisa and the boys did a great performance in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning for The 10! Show. Take a look to see for yourself.

While in Philly, she also did two interviews with WXPN, which will air in the next couple of weeks. We'll keep you posted!

srahman24 06-24-2009 04:06 AM

Wasn't really sure where to put this but... the pop-up book from Lisa's Lille video will be in Dublin on July 4th! Not sure how impossible it'll be to get a glimpse of, but there are more details up here.

Quote:

12.00 noon: Pop Up workshop with Maeve Clancy (6-8 people)

In one hour, participants will learn how to make a simple pop up page, with multiple layers and interactive elements. Maeve will have the rough pages from Lisa Hannigan’s ‘Lille’ video to illustrate how designs are worked out in minature before making the final pieces. By the end of the workshop, each person will have their own pop up page built and ready to take home.

One of the finished books from the ‘Lille’ video, made by Maeve with video director Jamie Hannigan will by on display at her table throughout the day.

Lisa Hannigan
By Joseph C Seager

LMS caught up with Lisa Hannigan, Dublin's new superstar!
http://www1.leedsmusicscene.net/arti...ages/10911.jpg

Hello Lisa Hannigan. Where are you currently?

Hello there. I'm at home in Dublin enjoying the sunshine.

How's 2009 going thus far?

Very well thank you. I've been writing and touring and generally making myself useful.

Are you pleased with your album 'Sea Sew'?

Yes. That's why I released it!

Are you releasing any singles from the album?

I'm not sure. I've made videos for 'Lille' and 'I don't know' so hopefully one of them.

I love the artwork for the album. How did that come about?

I had it planned for a good while. I took a month to stitch the lyrics. A lovely relaxing month of listening to records and watching movies while only worrying about the occasional puncture wound.

What's your favourite track from 'Sea Sew'?

If I had to pick one it would be 'Lille'.

If people don't know what you and your music are about, how would you describe yourself?

I have a friend who describes my music as "plinky plonk rock". I suppose that's as good a description as any!

How did you come to music for those who don't know?

My earliest memory is singing along to my mam's Joni Mitchell tapes in the back of the car, doing all the backing vocal bits.

Who would you love to perform with, past or present?

I'm quite happy to be doing my own thing for now.

What are you currently listening to on your MP3 player?

I'm enjoying Bat For Lashes new record and Fever Ray's solo debut.

Best venue you've played?

There's lots of Irish venues that I love such as de barras in Clonakilty and the spirit store in Dundalk. I was lucky enough to play in the Ryman in Nashville too and that will stay with me for a long while.

Where do you find your influences?

I try not to listen to much while I'm writing as I'd rather any influences were unconscious really.

What do you miss the most when you're on the road touring?

Apart from friends and family, I miss being able to cook my own food.

Some quick fire questions: Tea or coffee?

Tea.

Summer or winter?

Summer.

Superman or Batman?

Aaargh! Batman.

Possibly the most important question now, Reading or Leeds?

I don't have much experience of either and don't want to incur any unnecessary wrath so I'll say nothing!

And finally, what's next on the agenda for Lisa Hannigan?

A week at home and then a UK tour with Jape.

Thanks for your time Lisa, and good luck with the album!

just bumped into this interview:

Mercury rising – Lisa Hannigan

http://www.folkingcool.co.uk/wp-cont...a1-135x150.gifHazel Davis meets Mercury Prize nominee and honey-voiced songbird Lisa Hannigan

“Gobsmacked. Surprised. Never imagined it.” This is folk musician Lisa Hannigan on her recent Mercury Prize nomination for Sea Sew, her self-embroidered debut album. I call her a folk musician but she balks at the term. “I wouldn’t really describe myself as that,” she muses in her deep Irish growl, “I keep hearing I am the token folkie on the Mercury list but I think I am more plinky-plonk rock.”

I tried to watch it but it said that it can't be watched in my region (Germany)...:(
Meh!

verenita 08-29-2009 02:48 PM

that´s weird. i could watch it (but i didn´t like this perfomance that much. i dound the song too slow) and i´m far far away.
i tried to find lisa on artist den´s site, but she doesn´t appear. i´m sorry you could not watch it.

but i found alanis, the swell season and gemma hayes (only found pictures), but i guess they are all perfomances.

NICE! thanks, becci :)

Wheels 08-31-2009 06:03 PM

Thanks Becci!

I loved the easy meandering camera-work... worked really well with the music. It reminded me of the Buena Vista Social Club :)

eva_arg 09-01-2009 12:18 AM

thanks for the links, girls

about the Artist's Den thing, I think they usually broadcast the show a bit late after taping it, that's probably why there's nothing on the site yet.

for those of you having problems seeing it, I managed to d/l it, so i'll try to post it tomorrow if no one else does :)

verenita 09-01-2009 02:12 PM

^it would be great. thanks, eva.

ok, this is no official media, but i found this lovely post about lisa on someone´s blog.

She is so happy and playful, and this makes her beautiful.
I think all people are beautiful when they're happy...

Magic...this is the word for the atmosphere she creates :)

Thanks to becci for sharing the bandwidth videos!:icon_thum
I think the acoustic version of "Ocean and a Rock" is really gorgeous.
And thank to eva for uploading the artist's den video!:smiley1:
