Setlists, News, and Notes for Beacon II through DC

I hit Beacon wednesday, both Philly gigs Friday, and DC Saturday. Setlists are exactly accurate, I just don't know when I'll get them up on my site so posting here.

All information comes from a big ole teddy bear, and I'll leave it at that.

Beacon Theater, 2006-12-13

Sand (Damien and Tomo on djembe)
Volcano
Eskimo
Woman Like a Man
9 Crimes
Elephant
Green Eyes (no damien)
Cannonball (unplugged and unmiced)
Rootless Tree (guitar)
Delicate
I Remember
------------

Accidental Babies
Blower's Daughter
(Cheers Darlin')* (W/ Swell Season, Marketta on piano and Glen on Damien's guitar)

* - Cut short abruptly because they hit the 11pm curfew, Damien's final line was something like "The boy you can fear? Or your biggest mistake? And it's eleven o'clock goodnight!" and everyone stopped midnote.

World Cafe Live, 2006-12-15 (afternoon show)

The band overslept and showed up late. Soundchecked ten minutes after the show should've begun.

(Entire gig with Tomo on Djembe)
Older Chests
Cannonball
Animals
Coconut Skins
Accidental Babies
Delicate
(Damien begins and stops Rat Within the Grain)
(Damien begins and stops 9 Crimes on the guitar)
Volcano
Blower's Daughter

Tower Theater, 2006-12-15 (evening gig)

Cross-Eyed Bear (Damien only)
Cannonball
Face
Elephant
Rootless Tree (piano)
Rat Within the Grain
Older Chests
Amie ->
Eskimo (unplugged and unmiced)
9 Crimes
Never Leave You (No Damien or Tomo, Jeff on piano a venue employee named Derrick on Beatbox, Vyvienne rapping)
Volcano
Coconut Skins
I Remember (with the new Tomo solo section)
------------------

Gently Johnny My Gigolo (Marketta on guitar, Lisa, and Tomo on djembe)
Accidental Babies (no vyvienne)->
Slow (just two verses)
Blower's Daughter

Lincoln Theater 2006-12-16

This is the only night I bothered to see Swell Season, rather mediocre in my opinion. I walked in at some time during Star Star the first two nights, and Glen told all the same jokes. My understanding is they played the same set every night.

This Love
Drown Out
Falling Slowly
[Chorus is "If you want me"] (Marketta solo on guitar)
Leave
Star Star

Damien Rice

(Old Tomatoes) ->
Delicate (No Lisa)
Volcano
Coconut Skins
Woman Like a Man
9 Crimes
Then Go (electric guitar)
Me, My Yoke, and I (electric guitar)
Older Chests
Rootless Tree (guitar)
I Remember (again with the Tomo drum solo section)
Animals (tiny guitar out of tune, Lisa doesn't play it)
Yoshime Battles the Pink Robots, Part II (Vyv solo on piano)
Blower's Daughter
Cannonball (unplugged and off mic)
-----------------------------

Gently Johnny My Gigolo (Marketta on guitar, Lisa, and Tomo on djembe)
Unplayed Piano
Eskimo
Cheers Darlin' (W/ Swell Season, Marketta on piano and Glen on Damien's guitar)

----------------------------------------------------

With all that out of the way........

- Swell Season are now off the tour

- Tomo's new section to start the I Remember jam was first played "earlier in the tour, then they didn't do it for a few nights" before making its second appearance in Philly Friday.

- US tour is currently intended to begin in April

- The Brazil tour is something they wanted to do, but couldn't get together in time, not ecstatic with all the info being in the Brazil papers

- The current tour was very quickly thrown together

- Friday night's set was the result of Damien being in a really good mood

- Saturday's set was the result of everyone having a sh:tty day, for several different reasons. They all travelled down to DC Saturday morning. Some people had additional personal reasons. When they arrived, the PA was not working, and the crew spent all day getting it work. During Glen's set, a monitor wedge apparently blew out... it was real ugly all day.

- A lot of (but not all) the shows are being taped by the band themselves and "put into the vault". A soundboard recording exists of Death Metal Blower's Daugher.

- "No one" knew what tracks were actually going to be on 9 when it was released.

That covers everything appropriate for me to post. I'll answer any questions I can if you guys have any.

Mario m'friend,

One correction.

Much as I wish it was true, "Fool" was not played in Philly that was "Face" at song 3.

Thanks again for hosting me,

Doug

P.S. I'll call you tomorrow

Thanks. It was like 2:30 when I was finally typing this all up, and my fingers ran away with me for a bit there.....

And it was no problem at all.

Oh how I hope this includes a trip up north to Canada. We're really not that far away from Boston or Chicago or NYC. At least, Toronto isn't. :smiley1:

It's an alternate intro to Delicate. He's done it occasionally over the past few years.

Cross-eyed bear is on the benefit album: "Help: A Day in the Life"
Rat within the Grain is the b-side to the "9 Crimes" single
Never leave You is on Vyv's "Birdtalk" ep
Gently Johnny is a cover of a traditional English folk song

Actually Swell Season finished up their tour with the band tonight, at the second Chicago show.

SisterMidnight 12-20-2006 05:32 AM

thanks for the setlists mario!

i don't know if it's a correction, but i've noticed everyone calling the song lisa covers gently johnny my gigolo but i think it's actually 'jingalo'.. the traditional is anyway

I have no idea... Im just copying what I'd seen posted. Whats a Jingalo?

I forgot to post a few things, though, just remembered last night. They are somewhat technical, but if anyone is interested...

- Right now, the band is running a board with 36 inputs, and its a tight squeeze
- They do not get together and do "dress" rehearsal before they go on tour

Mario-

How do you know so much?

Being obsessed with this music, I am so curious about how they do it. Who they are and stuff like this feeds my curiosity. Not that I'm some crazed fan, (well not in a stalker kind of way but really in any other way I am a crazed fan) but its like you can't get enough.

Thanks, though. I'm sad to hear the day after Philly was a bad day cuz for me after that show I was high all day. So magical—these shows. It is so hard to explain to anyone (I don't even try) but the friends I was with and those online here obviously get it.

Damo is the Real Deal if there ever was one.

Thanks for posting the update.

Yeah, I don't get this. In DC, Glen made a big deal about how they were done with the tour and headed to South America after Saturday's show. Then Damien made a remark about it being the last show with Swell Season when he brought them out for Cheers Darlin'.

So I don't know what that was all about.

i think it might just be an archaic term for the same thing, but not sure.. i just like the sound of it better..

thanks for the insider news too m, i'm not a techie but i like knowing details and having comprehensive setlists, especially from someone familiar enough with the music to know old tomatoes when they hear it :)
