Me and my guitar ;) It's a cheap one, but I am comfortable with it. It's had to put up wit hsome creative fixes tho. One of the cog things is pretty stripped so now I have to tune that the opposite way. One of the plastic pegs actually broke so we stuck one some other plastic thing. It's been through a bit, but I like it.

I do want to buy a new good one soon though. I'm looking in the range of AU$500 - 700.

Apologies in advance for this mate, but I couldn't resist:

Hehehe I never noticed that before. I've got another photo of me like that, but I'll post it in the picture thread because it doesn't involve my guitar :)

I enjoy this moderately priced guitar. Got it used for $265.00 a couple years ago, hardcase included.

I'm honestly not sure what kind of Alvarez this is, my guess is that it's a PD80S-12. This is my father's guitar and became my baby once I started playing. I just love the sound of a 12 String, and plus this is very old so its very brassy. I hope to get a guitar of my own soon, and it will definately be an Alvarez.

SisterMidnight 04-12-2005 06:37 PM

beauty 12 string! i used to have an alvarez 12 string that i bought used but some drunken idiot stepped on it and broke the neck  they're harder to play and kill your fingers but they ring like a bell. i'll bet yours sounds beautiful!

heres me when i was 12 or 13 with my first baby. an alvarez :)

before most of you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye ;)

i tried to pass it down to my daughter and she lost interest. then i gave it to my son but he really wants an electric and an amp... the finish on it has aged to a beautiful golden color and it sounds better than ever. i might take it back for myself to play.. i kinda miss him

i had a Washburn dreadnaught for awhile but it was too big. i like the smaller body styles too. i traded that in for a washburn oscar schmidt series electric-acoustic and i really like it but i don't have an amp or much of a reason to plug in.

PhoenixDeviance 04-13-2005 06:33 PM

It does sound beautiful, and thats very sad about your 12 string.

An electric and an amp? Nothing beats the beauty of an acoustic guitar.

PenguinBoy 04-15-2005 04:24 PM

Lot's of lucky peeps here. i play a Martin-Style Kiso Suzuki F10, it's a japanese guitar. But the internet has no information on it, it plays relatively well, and i inheretted it from my pap. It could possibly be quite rare :D. I know i've never seen one anywhere else.

i know! i completely agree and have tried to tell him as much. plus if you learn on acoustic you'll be that much better on electric, which is much easier to play in comparison i think. but he wants to.. you know... rock out man!

Nice guitars people! :) I use a Taylor 712ce which I have had now for about 3 years. It was VERY expensive for me, but I decided after using a terrible awful $100 guitar for 12 years, I deserved a good one. I love it so much, and it's got amazing electronics. It has a stereo mode where a stereo split to two-monos cable will record the internal condenser mic, and pickup separately, making it perfect for quick, but full sounding recordings, and good if you have that kind of setup live.

Peace,
Benjamin

I'm not too far behind you age wise and that's cool that you have been playing that long, I started somewhere around the same age!

SisterMidnight 04-27-2005 04:04 AM

ahem... you mean you're a little bit ahead of me age wise right mr. reyvee61...? ;)

c'mon rey post one of those vintage shots from the toxic years :D

Martin and Ibanez : Depending or Level of Mid range

I use a Martin D-35 tuned 1/2 step low with Deadario Medium Phosphur Strings. Not the extended play either, they're too "tin-ee"

When I'm doing more "Picking" of notes up and down I use an Ibanez SG-10 Stephan Grossman. It's a concert box and so the mid-range is traded for sharper highs and lows.

Pick???? What's a pick?

Peace & Love

P.S. If you getting a nicer guitar (Martins, Taylors, etc.) There sound gets better with age and the wood matures. It's the neatest dam thing.

beginners be warned :smiley1: martin and taylor are good guitars but you need to spend a lot of money to get a good one... the lower end are overpriced and not worth the money... i'm not knocking anyone's martin or taylor... i'm just voicing a strong opinion... marketing can do amazing things for a company... anything with solid woods will age and improve their tone with time... it's their nature... ok... i'm done with my rant... sorry if i offended anyone... i do not mean to... i just want people to be well informed if they're buying a new guitar :smiley1:

AreYouMeToo 05-05-2005 04:59 AM

I agree with Corey

I totally agree with Corey. I suppose I did, but did not mean to, infer that only Taylors and Martins improve with age. By including them, I guess I was (in a way) excluding others. My bad.

You are also correct about the low end Martins. They have this "wood-like" set of guitars out there running $500 - $700 that a friend of mine purchased and the sound board warped and raised the bridge about a quarter of an inch.

I like my Martin though. Sorry if I was sounding too much like a homie.

MMMMMM...... Yairi :D ...... i don't know if i'll ever purchase another guitar....... everything they stand for and everything Kazuo produces with his very own hands is simply top notch...... i wouldn't trade my guitar for a top of the line taylor...... although, get me a discounted McIlroy and i think i would consider throwing my "buying only Yairi" theory out the window :smiley2:

joiyua 05-25-2005 06:31 PM

Hmm, I have no idea.. I think it's called Levin. A Swedish thing :)

Which Guitar?

Can all you guitar experts please give me some advice. I would like to start playing again (did a little in the past) and need to get an acoustic guitar (it would help).

Can anyone recommend a suitable make and should I go for a new one or try and pick up a second hand one. What are the things I should look out for to give me some idea whether it is good or not. I don't want to spend a fortune at this early stage....say around £100 for a second hand one. Any advise or comments would be very gratefully received.

You are a very lucky person! i can only dream of such instruments. My woodwork teacher at school built his own guitar, and it is amazing i played it the other day, it's quite heavy but the sounds which comes out is lovely.
