Im bummed, why is "Me. My Yoke, And I" so low on the list? yeah, its not traditional Damien Rice, but still a kick ass song.

guys come on. It's gotta be Grey Room, especially because it comes after Me, My Yoke, + I. While i like that song, i think it doesnt really deserve to be on the album and works better as B-side, like Woman like a Man. So, i consider Grey Room to be the a reward for listening to the previous track, a treat to myself for listening to Me, My Yoke + I all the way through.

I think that "Grey Room" is to 9 as "Amie" is to O. It's like the special gem hidden deep within the album, the most beautiful part of a rare jewel or precious metal. It seems to be the heart of the album, below the gleaming surface lies this one amazing song that really came out of nowhere

Hmmmm... i think that my favourite song on '9' is "Dogs", the music is so good, and as usual the combination of Damien's voice with lisa's is really great.

Have to agree with you 100%.
I've listened to the whole album, like thousands of times now, and this song still stands out a mile......
but each to there own..!
:hello:

Aisling 12-02-2006 06:14 PM

i still cant beat 9 crimes... like 6 yerars later though

buddy 12-02-2006 07:09 PM

i can't believe i hadn't voted on this yet.

elephant is by far my favorite. and if it's not yours then you're wrong. :hello:

A2_Blue 12-02-2006 08:05 PM

Ok, after giving all of the songs another fair listen, i may have misjudged "Me my yoke and I" when i voted for it. maybe because i was shocked that it was so low and that I react to this song strongly for personal reasons...

Therefore, i would probably have to say that my favorite would be accidental babies or rootless tree. and yes....grey room is up there as well.

i actually like the singing bowl. It's good to listen to in the car, when you're not really in the mood for music. The tone is so nice, I just like it. And, whilst I am slightly annoyed by the lack of an real substantial hidden track, I really like that singing bowl. So, in my mind, it makes up for it. I hope that wasn't sarchastic Timee, cuz i I actually like the 15+ minute long tone; Simple and elegant.

the singing bowl was described in the school paper as 15 mins of silence that were a bit creepy! i personally like it, it seems to bring closure to the album. and i really don't think timee was being sarcastic :smiley30:

Timeé 12-05-2006 07:49 PM

i wasnt being sarcastic at all.

i feel that it has a musical ambience to it with its certain patterns and stuff. did you ever feel like it sung like a song?

i love it

Tinkabell74 12-07-2006 02:33 PM

i voted for "the animals were gone". my second favourite will be "9 crimes". by the way: its a difficult question. ;-)

Ships_Were_Sailin 12-07-2006 02:49 PM

first time i heard singing bowl in the car i thought there was somethign wrong with my car......

anyways, best track is a really hard one, i love them all.....but if i HAD to pick one....probably coconut skins.

neil 12-08-2006 12:38 AM

Elephant...no doubt about that.

Ion Ashes 12-09-2006 07:43 AM

I can't choose only one!!!!

Yellow 12-10-2006 02:44 AM

Me, My Yoke, And I and Elephant.
Amazing.

Gatsby 12-10-2006 05:11 AM

its amazing, first listen elephant stood out. now its the most outstanding track.
with o i chopped and changed and realised delictate was my favourite but amie was the first song i heard back in 2001. still holds that special feeling.

elephant tries to hard. but yet succeeds. musically its brilliant and exceeds the rest.

mollywog 12-12-2006 04:08 AM

I voted for the animals were gone cuz it's so fun to sing along. But I love to listen to accidental babies, what an intimate song!! One thing I don't understand is why 9 crimes is thought so highly of. I mean, I like it and everything, but it doesn't touch me like the others. Actually, the only Damien song I don't like is Moody Mooday. Can't bear it! Anyone agree?

davo499 12-12-2006 10:41 AM

one more for 9 crimes. its suprising how close they all are

has a poll like this been done for o?

Soapy 12-13-2006 02:33 PM

I don't know if it's my favourite but Elephant just made me burst into tears. Which means that A) i'm feeling down today and B) it's a very powerful song.

It's left me totally exhausted.

A song's never done that to me.

CoconutSkins 12-15-2006 03:45 PM

I voted for The Animals Were Gone

The ending is just soooo amazing, that violin... It makes me feel happy and depressed at the same time.

your not alone, Blowers Daughter has the same effect on me, not good when your working on a building site!!!!!
:crybaby2: :smiley29:

erik mabry 12-18-2006 03:21 AM

I'm really surprised about how this poll is going.

On first listen; Dogs.
Now; Animals Were Gone / Coconut Skins

I've never not liked a song by Damien until Me, My Yoke + I. I just don't understand the point in it.

Rootless Tree is pretty good. I prefer the live versions better; more emotional, but I guess it's normal to lose that emotion when recording in a studio. It's the most mainstream song out of the bunch, hence the poll count for it.

Well, with that said, I'd say Coconut Skins and Dogs are more mainstream then the rest, but they don't have that many votes, so who's to say one way or another.

Accidental Babies doesn't seem very.. Damien. I don't know how else to put it. But good song, lyrically strong, but I just don't like it as much as Animals or Coconut.

Sweety Sheepy 12-21-2006 07:28 PM

I was really afraid of the new album. The first was so perfect, I couldn't believe that he can make such a great album again. I was wrong. I love ALL songs from "9"!
"The animals were gone" is good... but not good as the other songs. "9 Crimes" and "Coconut skin" are the best songs. But my absolutely favorite is "Accidental babies", it's so sad! So it was easyto choose my favourit song :smiley4:

flutterby 12-21-2006 07:51 PM

elephant has long been a favorite of mine, as well as rootless tree, so i have a hard time choosing. but i voted elephant. Elephant makes me cry sometimes, and not many songs can really do that.

ZioN 12-28-2006 12:31 PM

interesting results so far

i can't get my head around 'rootless tree'. personally the chorus is just kinda...half assed, yet its the most popular song

i voted for 9 crimes
the perfect opener and i can never seem to get it out of my head

coconut skins, accidental babies, the animals were gone, elephant, grey room follow

maryb21 01-01-2007 04:20 PM

I looove rootless tree...and accidental babies, and grey room...ahhh hell all are my favorites...but those three i looove!

By the way, Thanks to Johanna for getting me the cd. :hello2:

i like elephant,

sticky_love 01-02-2007 12:25 PM

Hey all, just joined here

I voted for Rootless tree but it was a tough one between that or accidental abbies....depend son my mood i guess... ha ha

bambi 01-03-2007 10:07 PM

I never knew the words 'i woke up and for the first time the animals were gone' could sound so... devestating! but they really really do!! its weird.. in a beautiful way!

Nevertheless, my favourite is accidental babies. having always been obsessed over beautiful lyrics, i adore it. I just.. adore every word! It makes me cry every time.. literally yesterday I had it on in the background and just burst into tears, and then told my boyfriend about a million million times how much I love him and appreciate him and adore him and couldn't live without him. it just made me think of loosing him, and about special things, like how people smell and being close, and also silly things like brushing your teeth before you kiss! love is kissing when you wake up in the morning together :) its telling someone they are beautiful when their eyes are swollen from crying and they have makeup down their face!!! but yeah.. it almost made me hysterical so i can totally relate with others who have had Damo's songs bring them to tears!
so sorry to write a boring essay there... :) whooopsss:)
