The show was a good one, but I must say... The show I saw at Con Hall at U of T kicked ass. I really missed having Lisa there...

Childish was my fav...

1st set of uploads!

This is some of what Hodder recorded... we didn't have any proper recording equipment, so it's all just recorded on our digital cameras. But, I think they turned out pretty well. I'll get the second batch up in a few hours:

Marti, you can move them to your 4shared folder later if you like, but for now this seemed easier?

Grey Room: http://www.sendspace.com/file/gasyaq

Coconut Skins > pretty intense jam > Woman Like A Man: http://www.sendspace.com/file/aitp8q

Blower's Daughter (unplugged): http://www.sendspace.com/file/g36ibt

Adorable banter (including the "everybody take your clothes off" line): http://www.sendspace.com/file/yyxuyr

Accidental Babies (8 and a half minutes long! The outro was gorgeous): http://www.sendspace.com/file/ntixvo

No videos, alas. I saw security stop a few people from taking videos on my right, so I didn't want to take a chance. Still, audio's better than nothing, I think!

More coming soon...

armyofstars 09-12-2007 02:35 AM

Aww..I know. Stupid security! What side of the theatre were you on?

Just found this on YouTube. It's The Blower's Daughter unplugged even though it's labeled Eskimo.

We were in the centre - row E, seats 50-53, I think.

Thanks for the youtube clip, I hadn't even checked to see if anything was up yet.

I was checking YouTube all day since I got really bored in class. lol You got pretty good seats. I was in Row G, seat 21 so right in the aisle.

Did you see the girls get up and dance during one of the songs? I think that's what happened because suddenly I saw everyone's head shift to the right but I couldn't really see what was going on.

yeah I feel your pain. It was sooo beautiful and clear, but I had to struggle to block out the person a few rows back who was singing. If it was a normal song I'd be more sympathetic, but you should not be singing out loud when its not amplified.

I like how I've made two comments, and both are negative about the audience. Overall I find the audience at his shows to be quite good. Its just that when most of the audience is really good, it makes those loud people stand out even more.

I really enjoyed the show. The long jams with mad drumming were great, and I'm always amazed at how special accidental babies feels live. I've seen him twice, and both times I've got shivers down my spine from the song that he does completely without amplification.

Oh and I heard someone requesting the professor during the yelling!

Hodder 09-12-2007 03:38 AM

Rootless Tree
Amie - jam - Eskimo
Cannonball
I Remember - Bang Bang
9 Crimes
Childish (!!!!!!!!)
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (Viv's song)
Me, My Yoke and I
The Blower's Daughter (unplugged)

Grey Room
Coconut Skins
Woman Like a Man
--
Accidental Babies
Volcano
The Professor & La Fille Danse
Cheers Darlin' (usual story)

I was going through the files and had to point out that Yoke happened before the blower's daughter. Had to clear that up. The file will be up somewhere shortly - everything we've got that is.

Yep! And there were 2 guys in the center, a few rows ahead of us, who just went crazy during the more rockin' jams. :icon_kidr It was funny to watch, but I would have hated sitting behind them.

Yep, that's exactly it. The audience wasn't too bad yesterday - they were generally quiet throughout the entire thing, and there were a few moments where you couldn't even hear anyone around you breathing.

But then... there were just a few other moments of stupidity that just blatantly stood out.

armyofstars 09-12-2007 03:54 AM

Just downloaded the banter...I loved it when he was like "Or just f*cking turn off the AC" because I was like "hell ya! It's freezing!" Really, it was so cold in there.

srahman24 09-12-2007 04:38 AM

2nd set of uploads!

Cheers Darlin': http://www.sendspace.com/file/rn2plv
I missed a bit of the story in the beginning, but got a pretty good chunk of it and the entire song

The Professor & La Fille Danse: http://www.sendspace.com/file/286ai5

Volcano (with a looped outro): http://www.sendspace.com/file/mez995

And here's a link to the files that Hodder ripped: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yws4g5

It's a .rar with:
1) Amie > Eskimo
2) I Remember (but the ending was cut off - a shame, because he did this great little melody on the guitar and I haven't heard it before and just fell in love with)
3) Bang Bang (there's a little bit of that melody in the very beginning of this)
4) 9 Crimes
5) Childish
6) Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
7) Me My Yoke and I

I can put upload them separately if people can't unzip it... just let me know!

And some more pictures:

Hodder 09-12-2007 02:27 PM

well, i had everything all rared up all nice for you all, with the show in its whole, but it appears that Sharm has gone ahead and beat me to the punch - it' s a good thing i guess, considering i didn't know the issue you all had with winrar. That said, i WILL upload it entirely in one file/directory (maybe i'll use winzip? would that work?) so you don't have to waste all sorts of time doing one track at a time. Either way, enjoy, and you're very welcome for the quick output. Really, it was more for our pleasure than yours, but we share. haha.

I'm off to class. I'll figure this issue out later. :D
Adieu.

borneoman 09-12-2007 04:08 PM

Sharm, thanks for staying up all night for the Eskimos!!!!!!!! Just listened to The Professor and Cheers Darlin. He seems to be in a very good mood, looooove how he tells the Cheers Darlin story here!!! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

haitoku 09-12-2007 04:52 PM

srahman, what camera you use? Does it have image stabilization? Those are some awesome pictures and the noise level is hardly noticeable (at least in these sizes).

and thanks for the audio!!

I was there and took some video footage with my camera phone, but the quality is unbearable. It's only for nostalgic purposes in the future..

Hodder 09-12-2007 05:48 PM

Dont be fooled, Sharm is a qualified photoshopper. haha. That said, her pictures did still come out with minimal noise, you're right. I'd tell you what she used, but all i can remember is that it' s a Sony Cybershot of some sort.

In regards to the audio - i've decided that since it's all up, i don't need to repost it, but if you would like i can do it up in a zip, or something.

It's a Sony Cybershot - DSC-W7! There's no image stabilization, but I changed the ISO speed (I think?), so it usually takes some pretty great pictures even without flash.

But really, my secret weapon is Photoshop :D

You're welcome everyone! I'm glad we could share that fabulous night with you all...

Armyofstars - THANKS for finding the videos! :hello2:

borneoman 09-13-2007 02:53 AM

I made an mp3 of Rootless Tree and put it here:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/3866664/3...oronto_07.html

I also split that big Amie file into 3 separate mp3 for Amie>Jam, Eskimo and Cannonball.

And the quality is amazing, better than most gigs out there as torrents!!!!!!!

Thanks!! :hello2:

Ca11um 09-14-2007 01:22 AM

thats the best version of rootless tree i've heard by absolutely miles! It's kind alike he's considering the impact of every single word in the song and what it all means... its fantastic. Also, his voice is sounding the best it has in absolutely ages, the intonation is perfect. Seems to me as though he's got bored og his own songs so he's just doing different things to them all so they dont get old. Makes for brilliant shows... and randomly different and awesome performances of specific songs too :D

and okay, just listening to accidental babies now... people laughing in accidental babies?! maybe there are no depressed souls in torronto that can relate to the lyrics properly :P This is an awesome performance btw... he's getting better. every song is improving.

I agree completely with both.

I was just searching youtube for other versions of rootless tree that were done in a similar way and it seems that the toronto version was fairly unique. I loved it.

I am still annoyed that people laughed during accidental babies. I find the song to be so powerful that there have been times that I've intentionally avoided listening to it, because I knew what it would do to me. To hear it live is unreal, and to be yanked out of that moment by people laughing is really annoying.
