Just realised Emmett Tinley's playing in Paradiso (small room) on the 12th of June. Tickets are only 8 euros.

marloes 05-21-2004 01:34 PM

I know!!!!!! I'm definitely going this time, cause I missed his gig in december and I really want to hear his new songs.

sezmo 05-21-2004 01:38 PM

I'm going too! He was in the audience when I went to see Josh Ritter in January and I didn't even know!

I don't know too much by him, except for what I've heard on Loveless' site. I ordered Polichinelle from amazon.co.uk earlier this year. Waited patiently for weeks and weeks only to receive an e-mail that it was out of stock and they weren't getting it back in. So I'll have to try and find it somewhere else...

marloes 05-21-2004 01:48 PM

You live in Utrecht right? Doesn't Plato have it? or any of the other smaller record stores. I bought a copy at one of his concerts a few years ago, but I've seen it in stores in Amsterdam as well.

tip: when you're in A'dam, check out this small cd store called Brutus, it's in this alley called the Molsteeg just right of the Magna Plaza shopping centre behind the Dam. I think they have it in stock, or otherwise you can try Concerto in the Utrechtsestraat (tram 4) They're really good!

sezmo 05-21-2004 02:34 PM

Yep, I live in Utrecht. I'll check out Plato. Can't remember if I've actually looked for it there or not. Whenever I walk into a CD shop I instantly forget what I'm looking for - overwhelmed by all the choice I guess.

Otherwise I'll defo check out those shops in Amsterdam. Thanks for the tip! http://www.our-adams-family.co.uk/em...ys/smiley1.gif

marloes 05-21-2004 02:39 PM

If you can't find it, pm me, and I'll make a copy for you and give it to you in Paradiso, I also have Oceanic Feeling, Prayerboat's first cd which isno longer available!

Angela 05-21-2004 10:53 PM

I've heard from another Dutch eskimofriend that he has a hard time finding Polichinelle. I'm going to send him a copy.

marloes 05-22-2004 12:08 PM

I just received an email from the prayerboat mailing list, Apparently this is going to be Emmett's last concert in Holland for a while, cause he'l be moving from Amsterdam a few days after the concert. So anybody who still wants to see him...
It also said that there is going to be a new website www.emmetttinley.com in the future.
another tip for dutch people looking for Polichinelle and who are going to this gig, Emmett usually sells copies after the show

Angela 05-22-2004 04:21 PM

Damn, I signed up but never got a newsletter Could you post the whole thing here, please? Where's he moving to?

marloes 05-22-2004 05:11 PM

It didn't say anything special, but here it is:

Ok, a date for your calendar!
Emmett Tinley has just confirmed a solo show at Paradiso, Amsterdam on Saturday,
12th June.
The show is at 8.00pm in the Kleine Zaal.
This will be Emmett's final gig in The Netherlands for quite some time.
In fact, just a few days later, he will be saying farewell to Amsterdam, which
has been his home for four years.
So this promises be a very special show!
The new album is still set for a late summer release. Please be patient....these
are strange days in the music business world!
Emmett's new website, www.emmetttinley.com, will be online soon to bring you
more information surrounding the release and concerts, etc.
You will receive an email when it is activated.
See you at Paradiso.

Thanks so much! I feel sorry for his Dutch fans now

sezmo 05-22-2004 05:33 PM

Yeah, specially fans like me who've only just recently discovered him. Poor me. But also lucky me that I at least get to see him before he moves away.

marloes 05-22-2004 05:36 PM

We had him for four years, time for him to grace another country with his presence.
But it is a shame he won't be playing here regularly anymore. Especially since there is going to be a new record, cause to be honest I've heard him play songs from Polichinelle too often already, then it all starts to be a little too predictable, if you know what I mean

sezmo 05-22-2004 05:39 PM

Yeah, fair enough. I'm just glad I'll get to see him. In fact I didn't even realise that he still lived here. Iknew he had but for some reason I was under the impression that he had already moved away.

marloes 05-22-2004 05:42 PM

He did move for a while, when he was trying to make it in the US. He had a special farewell concert and everything, but I quess things didn't quite work out for him over there, so he moved back quietly.

sezmo 05-22-2004 05:54 PM

Oh good, so I didn't just make that up then.

Thanks for clearing that up emmett expert/damien addict.

Angela 05-22-2004 07:23 PM

Did he actually *move* here? I know he spent time here last year, but that was to mix the new record. He lived in LA for a while, too, but that was a loooong time ago.

I've never seen him at all. I just hope that they do indeed release his recordhere, because then he'd do a US tour, no matter where he lives.

sezmo 05-22-2004 07:33 PM

Yeah, of course it really doesn't matter for us where he lives. I mean I'm not very likely to just bump into him in the street now am I?

Angela 05-22-2004 10:06 PM

Actually, you might He doesn't spend his days at home, you know!

marloes 05-23-2004 10:31 AM

A friend of mine works in a bookstore, and she was playing Polichinelle there. And this guy comes up to here and asks, excuse me is this the radio? so she explains that this is her own cd and she rattles on about what a great band this is and doesn't the singer have a beautiful voice and so on. Then the guy stops her mid sentence and says that the reason he asked is that the singer is standing just a few feet away. So she peeps over this guys shoulder, and there is Emmet ! So he comes over to say hi, and he's all shy and uncomfortable and so is she, so she ends up just helping him out, and saying something like thanks for shopping here and come again She is still kicking herself for that till this very day

cille 05-23-2004 10:50 AM
