Lisa & Aaron Dessner: New Album

Well, Hannah said it the other day:

She played some songs from her albums, the three new ones that had been posted online from various gigs (We The Drowned, Prayer for the Dying, and Funeral Suit). And there was also an album's worth of totally new stuff!

The girl beside me was taking notes of snatches of lyrics and things so they might surface :)

Aaron mentioned at one point that the four of them on stage (him, Lisa, Ross Turner and a guy on piano) were going into the studio together next week (so this week!)

It seems things are afoot :)

NOW IS OFFICIAL:

"On my way to make a record with @aarondessner ! Luckily I'm better at singing than taking pictures".

Great news, but oh how I am yearning for a release date... :smiley2:

And yes, from what I read it seems that Dessner is the producer.

How exciting! I heard a version of Pretty Peggyo by the National they played for Bobs birthday. It's my favorite dead (Dylan) tune so I was excited when this project was announced. Cool that she was involved as well.

She is on Ship of Fools too? With the Tallest Man on Earth?? That's just too exciting for me. :)

15. Lee Ranaldo, Lisa Hannigan & Friends – Mountains of the Moon: I don’t care how too-cool of an indie kid you are for the Grateful Dead, you are not too cool for any member of Sonic Youth. Lee Ranaldo’s been praising this band for a long time, and hearing him take on “Mountains Of The Moon” is a real treat. While 1969’s Aoxomoxoa is best known for “St. Stephen” and “China Cat Sunflower,” the album is equally memorable for being the time the Dead took most advantage of the studio-as-instrument. Some of their finest psychedelic nuggets are on this album, and the folky “Mountains of the Moon” is one of the best. It’s no surprise that Lee pulls this off expertly.

24. Tallest Man on Earth & Friends – Ship of Fools: Maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places, but it feels like I don’t hear as much about The Tallest Man on Earth as I did in the late ’00s / early ’10s. That’s unfortunate, ’cause he’s still highly talented and this cover reaffirms that. It’s another that you could mistake for a Tallest Man original if you didn’t know any better, but with plenty of justice done to the Dead’s version.
Quote:

38. The Walkmen – Ripple: At the risk of sounding like a contrarian, I just have no interest in The Walkmen post-Bows + Arrows, and this cover reminds me why. How do they take the one Dead song that indie rock fans already like and turn it into this whimsical, jaunty mess? Sorry, pass.

verenita 05-22-2016 11:21 AM

cheers to both of you :) :)

It says in the description you have to download and app or something in order to watch, which seems pretty odd. Do you know anything about whether it will actually work on youtube?

SillyAnonymousPianist 05-27-2016 06:19 PM

What about the one posted here by LisaHanniganChile ?
It seems to be yet another different one right ?

Maybe it's fishy too, I can't tell : never used those streaming services yet  !

Maybe I'm paranoid but with the warning video you posted : yikes :smiley23: !!!

demonhuntress 05-27-2016 07:16 PM

Oh wow. I don't believe we will get to watch it on those YT channels then. I don't even believe it will be streamed. The official site, twitter and fb page don't say a word about livestreaming. :( Hopefully, nobody got robbed.

I'm really anxious. So far I love all the songs.

SillyAnonymousPianist 05-29-2016 09:01 PM

Oh nice recap Constanza THANKS :icon_thum !

So if I may add, I think I heard a song recently on YouTube
and Lisa asked the audience to choose a title.
I think it ended up something along the lines of :

"Secrets in stones" or something like that.

Also there's something so funny in the video,
when she asks about what people think what the title would be
then there's someone in the crowd that shouts :

:director: : "-LISAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!"

And she answers something like :

:smiley9: : "-Nah, this is going to confuse everyone"

Ha ha :D !
