Other Voices 6, Dingle

back again for another year...

OTHER VOICES RETURNS FOR SERIES 6

**Limited number of Tickets on sale from this weekend**

RTÉ Two and South Wind Blows present Two Sounds: Other Voices 6. The acclaimed music series returns for a sixth season, with filming commencing in St. James’ Church, Dingle, Co. Kerry on November 30th, 2007.

Over the last five years, a small group of music lovers have been lucky enough to sit through the Other Voices recording sessions in the hallowed halls of the beautiful 200 year-old St. James’ Church in Dingle. The ultimate fan experience, it doesn’t get much more intimate than sitting a few feet away while Martha and Rufus Wainwright duet or when the Rev. Larry Love brushes past you in a crazed altar-top rock out or seeing Horslips perform live for the first time in over twenty-five years.

The recording in Dingle has become a music festival in it’s own right, a unique gathering of diverse artists in a breathtaking remote location. Other Voices brings together the very best musical acts from home and abroad, many already well established, others on the cusp of international acclaim.

While the line up of artists has yet to be announced, a limited number of tickets will be going on sale this weekend for the recording sessions. On Saturday November 10th, tickets can be purchased from 10am at St. James’ Church in Dingle. On Monday November 12th, tickets will go on sale from 9am on www.tickets.ie. Tickets are priced at €30 and are limited to 2 tickets per person per night. As St. James’ Church is so small, tickets for each show are very limited and in previous years have sold out on release date.

Recording will take place on the following dates:

Friday November 30th,
Saturday December 1st,
Sunday December 2nd and

Friday December 7th,
Saturday December 8th and
Sunday December 9th.

To watch previous performances and interviews log onto the award winning Two Sounds: Other Voices website www.rte.ie/tv/othervoices.

Other Voices 6 will broadcast on RTÉ Two in 2008.

Thanks for posting Dan! Can't believe it's approaching that time of year yet again! Once more, my thoughts are turning to contemplating another trip to Ireland.

By the way, any ideas on who might be playing in Dingle this year?

That's the ever frustrating about OV, you don't know who you're going to see when you get tickets.

Anyway, Lisa is playing apparently, I don't know when. A Hawk And A Hacksaw are in Ireland on the weekend of the second taping so they might be likely. Final Fantasy is in Dublin on the 11th and he's been offered a slot but it seems unlikely that he'll take it.

Is this secret insider knowledge or was that said somewhere?

Wasn't officially announced and I don't know if it's a secret but I was told that she was. I'd trust my source to be right on it though, he would know the producers of the show.

Yeah, it's a bit of a gamble to pick a night and hope that you get to see some of your favourite performers, especially when there's a distance to be travelled...still tempting though!

Closing_Doors 11-12-2007 10:05 PM

Tickets are sold out already, much to my annoyance.

Wheels 11-12-2007 10:20 PM

They always sell so quick...

:o I hope that means USA and Canada... 95% of our programming comes from them anyhow

Kilombo 11-27-2007 06:04 PM

Any chance someone's able to record it?
Would be nice!

Greets,
Kil

Daniel 11-27-2007 08:30 PM

forgot to mention that Damien was mentioned in the article as well, that he said on David Letterman that he played in the best venue in the world in Dingle, Ireland the weekend before (this was after his show in 2006).
If the paper is still about in work tomorrow, I'll scan it

Daniel 11-28-2007 05:48 PM

was cutting this up when I released I really should have done it through photoshop.....oops.

mari 11-28-2007 10:24 PM

That's a really nice article, it makes me wish I was going more than ever!!

Daniel 11-28-2007 10:32 PM

as you can see I never had scrapbooks when I was young(er)

as I mentioned on here before, the pub next door has a live feed of the show on their TV during the nights, and its a good place to be if the crew are looking for extra people to fill up the seats (people didnt turn up last year as it was in the middle of a stormy wet weekend)

Dave Geraghty's Ragdoll should really be [live] and not acoustic.

those are the two performances i really wanted to check out too. jenny lindfors is fantastic, i love her song let the seas calm, and i'm also digging the new sinead/republic of loose release we people (who are darker than blue) saw it here as performed at the meteor awards. i've always loved sinead.

yeah, thanks dan! no chance of seeing/hearing it here unless some kindly irish folk (such as yourself) share

Closing_Doors 02-24-2008 09:14 PM

Has Jenny Lindfors released anything? I saw her in Crawdaddy a few years back... she was a bit rough round the edges but not too bad.

borneoman 02-25-2008 09:19 PM

Thanks dan, did Foy Vance only do one song?? and you know if he's been in the show before?

Daniel 02-25-2008 09:32 PM

only one song was broadcast. Usually down there in Dingle artists preform a minmum of 3 songs, and depending on billing, sometimes more. Its up to the production company (probably) of whats songs get aired.

Daniel 02-25-2008 09:34 PM

...and it was his first time, yes.

yeah, she released her debut when the night time comes last year. you can check out some of the tracks on her myspace. i really like her, she writes engaging songs and her vocals are that great mix of sweet and strong. she's definitely an up and comer.
