www.amnesty.org/noise - damo
Just got back from a meeting with some people over at amnesty (Ireland).
Basically we were discussing how best to advertise the new amnesty international venture, a music based campaign in which loads of artists are coming together to re-record old John Lennon songs in aid of amnesty international. Anywho, it appears that damien rice was approached and he very enthusiastically agreed to do a song... I will post up the song/release when I hear more... |
I wonder what he might be good at... nothing too obvious i hope. Lennon had too many great songs that were ignored and quite a few great (but less great) ones that were adored.
|
ooh, i wonder which song he'll do...
jealous man? how do you sleep?? how? a lot of good ones, and come to think of it, a lot of tunes that'd go well with damien's temper. |
Happy XMas (War is Over) of course! :)
|
this is cool.. i think damien would be good at (or i'd like to hear him do, i guess):
mother or working class hero or cold turkey! but none of those really fit the theme.. woman is the nigger of the world kind of does, but i suppose that's too controversial... |

I'd like to hear him do 'God' or 'My Mummy's Dead', possibly the two most unlikely songs after 'Woman Is The Nigger Of The World'.
|
God would be nice. Maybe Nobody Loves You When Your Down And Out would be good. Maybe even Woman Is the Nigger of the World.
Wait, maybe one of my favorites to play, the first version of Look At Me (the strumming acoustic version, not the fingerpicking version on the Plastic Ono Band album). |

i agree though, damo could do a blues tune very well. |
id love to hear him do a version of Working Class Hero.
|
I can already hear Ian Dempsey announcing it as a george murphy cover.

No, Bessie Smith's song is Nobody KNOWS You When You're Down And Out. And Bessie Smith didn't write it, Ida Cox and B. Feldman did. Now, there is also a blues song called Nobody Loves You When You're Down And Out, and Eric Clapton does a great job of it on Unplugged, but again it's a different song altogether. John Lennon wrote his song, and here's the legal stuff: Words and Music by John Ono Lennon Copywrite 1973 Northern Songs Limited All rights for U.S.A. and Canada Administered by Blackwood Music Inc. Under license from ATV Music (Maclen) Again, Damien would do a great job with John's song. |
sorry, i confused the two.
what's the deal with all those credits?? |

Ah, when I talk about John I get passionate, and I go into detail. :) |
 'twas funny!

*bump*
just to let you guys know this got released on i-tunes, check www.amnesty.org/noise, hard copy released in Ireland 26th i think.. there's some good tunes on there, but damo isn't on it.. apparently he recorded a version of mother but it was never really finished.. sidenote, i saw him in dalkey last night nd talkin for a wee bit, he says the september tour is damo rice only, not the environmental, which he just said he's workin on with some friends... ta ;) |
