Does you think Damien has had a problem with depression?

From someone here in this place who has had bad depression, i sometimes think and maybe want to idetitfy with him.

through songs etc

Bumpman 08-23-2006 06:19 PM

Yeah he probably has, most people do. If you look at some of the stuff in the interviews section you'd get a good idea of what he's about y'know.

Well I'd say most people get depressed from time to time, as opposed to actually having "depression". Damien doesn't strike me as the terribly depressed type but then again I can't say I know him personally.

Bumpman 08-23-2006 06:32 PM

Well I didn't mean clinical depression or anything. That's slightly rarer... He's a pretty maudlin guy though. I suppose everyone has their highs and their lows.

Closing_Doors 08-23-2006 06:36 PM

Except clowns. They're always happy.

Anywho I got the impression alumni was talking about depression in a more serious sense... and I don't think Damien is "depressed" but maybe I'm wrong :o

Bumpman 08-23-2006 06:38 PM

Maybe he's not depressed, maybe he's just unimpressed.

Closing_Doors 08-23-2006 06:39 PM

Yeah he looks vaguely disillusioned in your avatar there. I don't think he likes being a puppet.

Bumpman 08-23-2006 08:25 PM

It's better then that dodgy piece of crap you've been sporting nigh on a year and a half now.

From a clinicly depressed person, I don't think he is. I suffered depression from grade school. It started in 4th grade, and the events happening with kids then didn't help. I only got help when I was a sophmore in highschool. I am on meds now.

From the depression in Damiens songs, he's had bouts of depression, but he is too together to be clinicly depressed. My songs because of my depression are so much darker than his stuff too. If he was "clinicly" he would have more songs about death and wanting to die than about love and relationships. I mean, in the Blower's Daughter, instead of saying "til I find somebody new" it would be "or I will never be able to live".

i think he suffers from the depression that many suffer from and it is called heartbreak. i'm suffering from it right now. no matter what i do, who i'm with, have good of a situation i'm in.. i'm depressed and it is all because of a girl. i think, mainly by listening to his music, that he is suffering from the depression i do and that just about everyone other human in the world suffers from. heartbreak.

ehem i think you'll find that in the live version of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Lookin For" he finishes on the blowers daughter and says "till i get a knife and cut it out"

i know that probably doesnt have anything directly related to depression but...

yes he does say that, but if it was something he really ment i would have been the thing he said all of the time.

I personally think he did because when I am depressed I identify a lot with his songs. He's a beautiful artist all the same.

Yeah but there is a deifference from getting depressed and suffering from depression.

WhatAmIDarling? 08-30-2006 02:09 PM

I don't think that he's clinically depressed. His songs are sad, but also lightly optimistic. He seems like the sort of person who can identify beauty, and if you are able to realize what's beautiful in life, then I doubt you're clinically depressed.

Johan PV 08-30-2006 02:34 PM

His songs are depressing, but I have the luck of saw him in Paris in a gig, and he seemed a very fun guy, and a happy guy too! Maybe he throw all the bad emotions into the songs. At least, I hope so.

tywy 08-31-2006 02:24 AM

he is fun some nights and not so fun other nights depending on his mood but some of the darker gigs I've been to have been amazing!

PenguinBoy 08-31-2006 04:10 PM

Damiens a romantic, he thrives on it, he's a bit prone to melancholly too. Depression has got so many meanings that make it almost impossible to define him as depressed.

Depressed means "really sad", and clinically depressed means ur so sad that without clinical help u can't maintain ur everyday life.

As far as i'm aware, he's done quite well to pluck himself up, to complete an album, tour the world, travel, campagn... all that without clinical help.

So all though he's probably sad sometimes, he's not CLINICALLY depressed. He definately suffers when he can't control relationships, but luckilly for him he's got a way to express it via his songs.

If you really want to relate to damien, by him being depressed... if thats what you think could give you confort. Rethink... you allready HAVE related to him by listening to his music. By the fact that u let his music reflect you, you're relating to him. And in that way he can be your little psychological friend without the confirmation of "ah yes he is clinically depressed, just like meee huraaah".

Just cos someone's happy in public, doesn't mean they are in private... so i think that's a mistake easilly made.

I thought we weren't supposed to talk about damien's personal life?

carvinC980t_kid 08-31-2006 04:57 PM

well said penguin boy! the thing about appearing to be happy on the outside/while in public, but not happy in private.... that is completely true! i know plenty of people like that. heck, that is how i am most the time at school. act happy so i don't have to listen to people ask me the same question of "what is wrong" or "why are you an a**" a good friend of mine is like that alot and she is like 1 step away from needing help she is so depressed. she stayed with her bf who went to the army and then he told her he had cheated on her throughout a whole year long relationship and made her wait around for 3 months of not seeing him and she had no idea... now she is pretty f*cked up from this whole thing.
