marion cotillard at the oscars. ok, i loved the movie, but she was so adorable

^ I just came on here to look up that French movie thread, because I just finished watching Jeux d'enfants! How amazing was she in that? (It didn't hurt that Guillaume Canet's pretty gorgeous in it too)

There was a great pic of her and Forest Whitaker at the after-party, I think:

Hers was my 2nd favorite speech, after Marketa. It's fitting that the most memorable ones (Javier Bardem's was great too) were the ones that were most anti-everything-that's-wrong-with-Hollywood, and they were all foreigners.

^ aaawww... no i think must be right after her acceptance; he is still holding the envelope. I remember thinking that Forest would probably not be the worst person to escort you off stage after the shock of winning an oscar - he looks like a compassionate man who can offer up a good bear hug :D

I had to google that, had no idea she'd won one for The Aviator.

Haha, Kaupang...that must be some kind of Viking reference!

she was cute, i saw this quote from her from backstage:

"I'm totally overwhelmed with joy and then sparkles and fireworks and everything which goes like bam, bam, bam!"

you think she was excited? :smiley4:

i also enjoyed tilda swinton. she seems so down to earth and she was really funny. i was rooting for daniel day lewis too, so i was happy he won. i wish the animated film about the girl in iran had won instead of the chef/rat, though. we get enough of that kind of thing in animated features, i thought the other one looked much more interesting.

cille 02-28-2008 07:46 AM

^the marie cottillard quote: but was it in response of her winning the oscar, or getting to cuddle with Forest Whittaker..? I know what I'd be most *bam bam bam* over ;)

tilda swinton: yes, she is so cool, i loved how she barely wore make-up and still looked amazing in her own way. I've loved her since I saw her in Orlando way back, she's such a great actress!

SisterMidnight 02-29-2008 02:50 AM

i think someone ^ has a crush on forest whittaker ;)

cille 02-29-2008 06:13 AM

^haha actually not, but I respect him a lot and he seems like someone who can deliver a good hug. Also, there's something in the way he looks at people, it's like he's always taking people in, he's always very present, like...

But other than that, yeah he's a big cuddly sugar bear.

cille 02-29-2008 11:53 PM

Oh MAMA! there's my new desktop background! :D

borneoman 03-01-2008 09:50 AM

from which movie is that??? looks like the Travolta movie, the cienciology (sp?) one, but it cannot be...

hazey 03-01-2008 11:26 AM

^ Yep, that's exactly the one: Battlefield Earth. I was as shocked as you are. Didn't the flm win like 8 gazillion Razzies?

Hendrik 03-01-2008 04:52 PM

lol, I thought it looked like the new Star Trek movie?!

Hendrik 03-03-2008 11:37 AM

Cotillard sees american conspiracy :icon_sunn Haha, it would've been so cool, if she said that at her Oscar speech. :smiley8:

Thanks! This is amazing. What are we doing here? This is mad. We made this film two years ago. We shot on two Handycams. It took us three weeks to make. We made it for a hundred grand. We never thought we would come into a room like this and be in front of you people. It's been an amazing thing. Thanks for taking this film seriously, all of you. It means a lot to us. Thanks to the Academy, thanks to all the people who've helped us, they know who they are, we don't need to say them. This is amazing. Make art. Make art. Thanks.

Marketa Irglova:
Hi everyone. I just want to thank you so much. This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible. And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don't give up. And this song was written from a perspective of hope, and hope at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are. And so thank you so much, who helped us along way. Thank you.

i know this is late, but...
they both touched my heart with their speeches... so honest, genuine, humble...

i loved the "make art, make art" by glen... and every single word by marketa... such a brillant young lady!...

thanks srah for post this... i only could see the youtube videos on the news page... so, thanks emm, too!
