Memphis Eskimo(pics and video)
just got home from my after party so to speak with damien. So anyways i had decent seats at the show...orchestra level but more towards the back of the orpheum. Anyways Id have to say im the luckiest eskimo in the world. The show was allitle shorter than i thought it would be...but well id have to say it was well worth it. We got to hear "bottom shelf"....which was excellent....and you wont believe this..... a cover of "when a man loves a woman" by michael bolton which i will post for your viewing pleasure. Sooooo after that comes a cover of a certain Elvis tune which we knew was coming and a cover of "twist and shout" which i dunno who originally wrote the song. Damo was in rare form to say the least tonight. afterwards i tell my wife that i think we should wait to see if we can meet damien, tomo, or shane ......anyone...... So we are sitting by the bus with about 40 others when all the sudden a guy opens the door and says "you people are lucky come on in". Being that this is the official last show of the US tour....damo decided he wanted to have an after party. So they take us to this room and the guy says "drinks and music will be here shortly". hahahah i still cant believe this.... We are sitting around when the tunes crank up.... and the beer comes in....free beer that is...haha. Then out comes damo with glass of wine or whatever concoction of a drink it was that tomo had made for them(he explained to me how to make it but i dont remember) Tomo was great...very kind person.....he misses his 4 month old. Hes allite upset that hes been away most of his childs life so far but was excited to get home for two weeks to spend time with his family. A few minutes later Bottles of whiskey were being passed around...tomo said that this is all the liquor and beer that was left in the tour buses. So at this point im beyond the happiest person in the world obviously...because now i get to talk to damien....which we spoke for about 5 mins.....about bonnaroo, about how me and my wife met.....about beer...haha....anyways about an hour later...the crowd is about down to 20....and damien busted out the guitar and played a short set for us lucky folks. He played amie, cold water, and a cover of "hallelujah" jeff buckley styel(which i have vid clips of). Im pretty drunk right now cause i just got home so sorry if this isnt very coherent. But i will explain more later. Gnight everyone its way too late so I will post the pics and videos tommorow...i have it all on tape dont worry.

Man, I don't even know what to say at this point. Can't wait for the clips!
Blasphemy! The immortal "When a Man Loves a Woman" was not written by that hack Michael Bolton!!! It's by Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee Percy Sledge.
"Twist and Shout" was popularized by the Beatles but was earlier recorded by the Isley brothers and others. AWESOME story though, and thanks in advance for taping the special set! |
Holy crap! That's awesome... I can't wait to hear more about this and see those clips!!
aaahhh..... :crybaby2:

So heres "when a man loves a woman" well not all of it but a good bit of it. more to come shortly....enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4jaUbzGGpw
Thanks!!!!!!! Just watching!!! WOW I'm speechless!! So he did When a man love a woman as part of Accidental babies?? Because he comes back to AB once he's finished with When a man...
Yes that is correct sir.....Sorry i didnt catch the beginning of accidental babies....i clicked the cam on as soon as he realized he was doing the cover. I seriously need to invest in a few more memory cards as well...there was so much stuff i had to delete to get some of this more rare stuff on cam.
Did you also videotape Bottom Shelf? and Suspicious Minds/Twist & Shout?
Thanks again for sharing. It sound pretty good!! Do you also have the setlist?? What else did he play?? |
I did have some of bottom shelf but i only had a gig mem card. So i had to take that off to get some of the backstage stuff....and Yes i do have "suspicious minds" and "twist and shout" uploading them to youtube now.
Wow that is an amazing story! and FYI that is a great clip you posted on YouTube... I was expecting some crappy sound but that sounds great! :hello2:
wow, you are the luckiest eskimo friend. can't wait to see you what you taped!!
did he say anything interesting about bonnaroo when you were talking to him?
not really...he just said that he thinks bonnaroo is a reallllly great festival and that hes really excited to play and see some other bands....He couldnt believe that i live 3 hours from Nashville and have never been.

It was an amazing show! Me and my buddy had 5th row. It was our 1st show but damn, best concert we've ever been too. People who scream and shout while Damo is talkin and playing a really quiet song should be kicked out. I mean, ****ing idiots. Has anybody gave a setlist yet? I know the songs just not the order lol
I found this setlist at damienrice.com but not sure how accurate it is...
The Professor Volcano Me, My Yoke & I Rootless Tree The Rat within The Grain Bottom shelf Eskimo Delicate Coconut Skins Accidental Babies/When A Man Loves A Woman I Remember Cannonball --------------- Dogs 9 Crimes the Blower's Daughter Cheers Darlin' --------------- Suspicious Mind Twist and Shout Looks like the audience was quite disrespectful with some people even ansering phone calls, talking on the phone. I read that someone was asking for Amie all the time and at the end he said 'No'. Also, someone kept asking for Volcano although he had already played it and Damien said something like we already f**ing played Volcano!! |
Yeah i had to move seats because these two girls were seriously gossiping the entire first 4 songs....i mean the one girl literally did not look forward for like 2 songs....she would go from talkin to her friend on her left to kissin her bf on the right....i wanted to throw a basketball at her face....but instead i moved up closer....haha. Yes the amie **** was annoying too......as was the volcano comment.......Memphis is not a city known for its class......help get me out please.
That set looks correct, besides dogs and coconut skins should be swapped cause coconut skins opened the encore. and he played that bang bang she shot me down at the end of i remember. and yes, very disrespectful, people behind me actually answered a phone call. people got to their seats very late and that dickhead screamed AMIE THE ENTIRE TIME. im happy he didnt play it for him.
