The lyrics to Lisa's Hiro song (Train)

Sorry but please don't PM me asking for it. I only have the unmixed/untracked version of the show thus far and promised my pal the taper not to share it. It sounds f*ckin' phenomenal though and I just wrote a ton more about the tape in the trading section if you'd like to check that thread for details.

This is also how I described this song over there:

I can't say enough about how wonderfully unique it is. It's like all 3 of her Sligo tunes rolled up into one! Picture a slinky, gentle, lazy, smoky Norah Jones type vibe to the vocal mixed with the perky quirkiness of a Suzanne Vega/Regina Spektor/Jill Sobule/Nelly McKaye playful bounce; complete with (Tomo) whistling which is the closest thing we ever get to a refrain.

'K, now that you have such a clear sense of its tone... :smiley29:

btw, since Lisa's lyrics are in many ways as literarily as sophisticated as Damo's this one just truly begs for my e.e .cummings treatment (a la the succinct haiku feel of "C,M,SD" which I got very positive feedback from for doing it that way so i hope you like it here too) due to her deliberately shortened phrasing, the use of resonating parallel phrases with equal emphasis through tasteful alliteration and the dearth of lyrics in relation to how long the song itself is:

*whistling*

Blurry:

Like a railroad
Journey.

You get
Down
Some.

You need
The music
That
It brings.

You've got:

Someone
In your head.

Another
In your business.

Several
In your open arms.

Sometime.

Some time.

*whistling*

Maybe:

You'll pin
Nothin' else
On me.

I get
Down
Sometimes

And I
Am
Perforated
Plenty.

It's you
On the train.

You don't know
Where

You're
Headin' to.

Or even
Where

You've
Started
Out from.

*whistling*

(vocalizing)

And no one
Ever talks
To me
Like you do.

I don't like
What you say.

But at least
It's true.

Edit: The song is officially called "Blurry"

I just don't get it. Why do people not want to share their bootleg recordings!? It's selfish if you ask me.

Closing_Doors 02-04-2007 11:45 AM

That song has been around for a while methinks. I've got a recording of it somewhere, just not on this machine... from mid 2005 I think.

i dont think it is. at the end of the day its their bootleg recordings.
if you havent gone to the trouble to tape and mix a concert then you should probably feel thankful if you're allowed access to one.

Closing_Doors 02-04-2007 12:03 PM

Oh and by the by I think the song is called "Sometimes".

If i recorded an intimate show like that, the first thing I would have done is share it on here. Seems that some people are more up their own ass than others :smiley32:

Tommy 02-04-2007 02:01 PM

I agree to be fair, I mean at the end of the day all respect to the people who go out there and record the songs. But do you really get more enjoyment out of it by not sharing, to me it wouldnt make a difference (I would probally enjoy it more if I had other Eskimo's to discuss it with). I just dont understand how keeping a track to yourself really makes anyone happier.

Thom

cestoz 02-04-2007 02:19 PM

i agree, but then in the taping recording forum it beomces apparent the 'mixed version' will be released to us all, eventually, which as long as is not too long, then i can live with it.

Closing_Doors 02-04-2007 02:23 PM

To be fair I think the recording will be shared once the recording has been mastered properly. Or at least that's what I read from Spamlet's post. Don't forget we also have the "Red Nose Happy" song to look forward to also!

filledanse 02-04-2007 02:58 PM

i'm pretty sure that song was played at her set at electric picnic...

bumpman might be able to verify that, but the lyrics are certainly familiar..

theboxer 02-04-2007 04:20 PM

Thanks for the lyrics Spamlet. Sounds like an amazing song - I'd love to hear it! Lisa might perform this song on RTÉ's Other Voices (28 February) fingers crossed.

Haven't you heard of the Code of Tapers? In article 3, line 2 it states that "all tapers are obligated to share their recordings for the enjoyment of others."

i referred to bootleg recordings not the music within it. Even moreso if the bootleg contained all previously released material.

Bumpman 02-04-2007 09:17 PM

It's probably better not to get worked up about this. After you record a show you have to transfer, master, edit, compress, volume balance and then distribute it. It takes more then a few minutes and people do have real lives outside of trading bootlegs. Everyone wants instant results because we have the internet, but trading has always been measured in months rather then minutes, broadband won't change that much.

Anyway, Lisa's on Other Voices in two weeks. We'll all hear the songs then.

I don't think that's what anyone is getting worked up about. It's more so the fact that Bumpman said in his first post that he/his friend don't wish to share the original tape recording. That is what is grinding people's gears ;)

Well I'm going to hazard a guess that that taper is Mario, and that he doesn't want to share the tape on eskimofriends because he was banned from here. If I'm right about that, and I think I am, then believe me, It's highly likely that those tapes will never see the light of day on the internet. Coupled with the fact that Spamlet isn't the one you should be blaming, because he's not the taper, and he probably has no say in the matter. So give him a break.

Tommy 02-05-2007 01:16 PM

Why did this Mario character get banned?

ooh ace ok :D
gossip = hoorah

Tommy 02-05-2007 09:42 PM

Looked into the Mario thing and if he was banned for what I think he was banned for its pathetic.

cille 02-06-2007 09:52 AM

Urgh I'm not even sure you can find the reason why anywhere, I might've been misleading you :o (not on purpose mind you).

Just forget about it, it's just old sh*t.

And you're an asshole for speculating like that. I've done more for getting live shows recorded and taped than anyone else who's ever listened to Damien (with the possible exception of Jon Koch). You have no idea how many people across the US I BEG to record gigs. I could list you ten tapers off the top of my head I convinced to do me a favor and go record a show.

And to think I'd be hoarding a show because of this website?? Don't flatter yourself.

It's not my tape Spamlet has. As I've posted on here many times, my tape is not very good. Due to technical issues which were unresolvable w/o leaving the show, I could not get loud enough levels. In order to hear the recording, it needs to be amplified drastically, and even after running all sorts of filters, the hiss which accompanies the amplification rendered the tape unenjoyable.

We played with only a sample of the recording, and couldn't find any success, so I didn't bother converting the whole tape, yet. I still have the DAT. Spamlet informed me there was a much better recording, so I'm not going to dilute the trading pool with the poor copy I have. If nothing else ever comes out, I will post just the new songs from my copy, for posterity's sake.

Tommy 02-06-2007 06:46 PM

I like the above man, 90% for being a legend and 10% for calling Bumpman an asshole. :P

Thom

cille 02-06-2007 09:00 PM

well at least there was an explaination this time, i appreciate it mario. really!
