I've noticed that Cannonball is being spun frequently on all the local and regional radio stations (well the local Cork stations anyway). I hear the remix about 5 times today! It's in 96fm's 'Top 20'.
I never really thought the day would come when it would be so widely received on such a mainstream level. This remix has obviously achieved what the record company, or management or whoever was pushing the remix set out to do.
I know that all this exposure can bring its down sides, they've all been discussed a million times before, but I think the more people that hear Damien the better, for them anyway.
My only hope is that they'll buy the album and hear the real cannonball.
Speaking of the album, it was number nine about 2 weeks ago in the Irish charts, has anyone any idea what it is now?

If you haven't read all that blabbing cos i didnt paragraph it nicer or didnt use any smilies..the whole point was 'yay damien's on the radio'

Think the album is in the top 5 now, maybe that's the uk chart or maybeI is wrong altogether!? Imagine it got no.1???

ali* 08-18-2004 08:47 PM

NUMBER 3 in the irish charts!!!!

ali* 08-18-2004 08:49 PM

(the album that is, has the single actually been released?)

graves 08-18-2004 09:26 PM

"O" is number 10 on the album charts and "Cannonball" is number 40 in singles in UK charts.

I heard the album version of Cannonball on Radio 1 today, a refreshing change from the remix.

Donsie B! 08-22-2004 05:44 PM

...i hate the remix!

Wheels 08-22-2004 06:10 PM

I heard them say on 96fm that they are getting bucket loads of requests for the Cannonball remix every day!

Irish Top 5 Albums:
1. B-Sides - Damien Rice
2. Final Straw - Snow Patrol
3. Anastacia - Anastacia
4. Songs About Jane - Maroon 5
5. O - Damien Rice

SisterMidnight 08-22-2004 06:14 PM

Yay for Damien!! He's finally getting the recognition he deserves! (still hate the remix, though)

wilbie 08-22-2004 07:59 PM

Charcoal 08-22-2004 08:19 PM

The Boyf loves the Cannonball remix, and thinks the rest of Damien Rice is crap!

Si_B 08-22-2004 09:50 PM

Isn't Damo in a way going against all his anti mainstream ideals by releasing a radio friendly remix?

This is in no way a criticism, just an observation!

pamela 08-22-2004 09:59 PM

dunnes stores !!! ah we have that hear ¬

Michelle Joey 08-23-2004 11:23 AM

I've heard people saying they love Cannonball, buy O cos they thinks it's on it and hate the original version. It'll be interesting to see how many new fans this attracts. I don't know if Damien's "usual" music is going to appeal to all the Cannonball remix lovers.

Wheels 08-23-2004 12:04 PM

The second album will... many people don't like 'O' cos it's too slow and quiet... the new stuff will really excite people!

cille 08-23-2004 01:02 PM

maybe when that film comes out in the fall it'll be all blower's daughter instead...?

only heard damien on danish radio once and it was the up-tempo version of cannonball. (not the remix. i mean, there are two apart from the album version, right?)

Donsie B! 08-23-2004 08:01 PM

...,finally damo gets recognition!

Gazel 08-23-2004 08:22 PM

I went to cardiff today (where I finally managed to get a Frames album!) And cannonball was being played everywhere, EVERYWHERE!!!!

Its really weird coz I've had O for well over a year, and I was the only person I knew who had it, but today I was walking through shops and people are there singing along to cannonball, its strange.

yup the damien love is certainly spreading - my little sister tells me she heard it played this weekend by the DJ at our local nightclub here in thurles. if theyre playing it here in the middle of nowhere, at a club that usually plays crap then its definately a good sign of the times!

Michelle Joey 08-24-2004 02:13 PM

Damien in a nightclub...hmm...

Daniel 08-24-2004 02:15 PM

not exactly music one can dance to. maybe it was for the slow set?
