my only problem with childish and groovin' are that they really don't sound so much like HIM.. i'm not against varying sounds, but they're really REALLY lighthearted... no? then, i've just gotten a bit tired of the usual Volcano, Delicate.. the ones that people who AREN'T fans have heard and might know. i don't understand some of the verse lyrics in toffee pop, but i totally support and defend this song because of its choruses.sobeautiful and expressive! |
i really can't believe that we are discussing damo's worst song!!!
THey are all good, yes there are some weaker ones like moody monday e.t.c but they all have the damo style to them which makes them unique I'm so in to the music that once i hear a song with damo playing it i automatically like it, weired i know but true I can see why though people find Cheers Darlin hard to listen to because it has little melody in the music. Well in fact cheers darlin is in fact a very melodic song, do you ever hear the piano part at the end ?!? very melodic there. I really got in to cheers darlin from damo's milan show last november. The song lasts for 20 minutes and is so good. |

I think the problem we have found is that Damo has left the second album for too long and us hardcore fans need refreshing! |
Oh have to agreewith mestonf, i've been away for a month and people start talking about worst Damo song!!???? I knew people are dying to wait for his new album and get a bit bored with his old songs on their stereo over and over, I admitted I did moan about as soon as I know Damo re-release "Cannonball" again as a single, I knew we all fustrated. BUT This topic shouldn't appear on Damo fan forum at all as we all are Damo "die-hard" fan, right ? |

i wish!!, im in the same gang as you, just into the 40's (post wise). and as for the "damo has no bad songs we love them all!!" people, well fair play to you. i wish i could be like that! (damn my critical nature) i started this thread not to find out the actual worst song per se, just to find out peoples opinions. Edited by: sonofelvis |

i haven't heard that live version, i would like to hear it. For me, i sometime skip this one because i don't share the same sentiment. if ever i do, it would be just a few seconds, who would be wallowing that kind of desperation for long while knowing that it isn't worthy? for the song itself, it's beautiful. and it's heartbreaking if he sings it seriously, the goofy version is better |
I have to say I allways press skip on no. 7, cheers darlin'- it's just missing that somethin that the other have
|
i just got my friend Riona to sign up, if you see her around be nice!!! she not fond of blowers daughter (shes the first person to say BD) except for the lisa bit at the end. |
Ok so it's not that Idon't like the song it's just one of those songs that I wouldn't put on first if ye know what I mean?? I think maybe I overheard it. Favourite songs though (sorry John but let's concentrate onthe good!) Woman like a man, Lonelilly, Volcanoes, Insane....... hmmmmm.... too many....I remember should be in there too.
|
welcome, riona! Quote:
aw come on, of course we can also discuss our least fave damo songs! i didnt see anyone here saying that they hate damien rice and everything he stands for, we just all have songs we like less than others, and if we can't talk about that here, then where?? let's not have things we can and cannot utter here. free debate, y'all! |
i dont really like "rule no. 2" (lyrics...), "groovin", or "childish" (both way too happy for my taste.). but if i had to pick one from 'O' it would be "older chests" (kinda boring)
but now that riona has started listing favourites as well i would have to say my favourite is "fool" or "delicate" |

Fair enough to point out free debate, the purpose of forum is sharing opinion anyway.I just thought that "worst damo song" doesn't sound repsectable on what Damo had done, in fact its abit harshmaybe we should say "Weskest damo song"Anyway I don't like take on anyone either. For me to be honest, theres no weak songs, "O" still the album that worth to be on my record collection. Most of the songs that aren't in the album are good anyway, i didn't get blower daughter part 2 at first but it grows on me more once i get the lyrics.Edited by: brokenheart |
Ya know, i dont really like the proffessor, and i dont know why.Cheers darlin, is a fantastic song, but i just dont really like theblues vibe, it evades me. The monotony of cheers darlin, which can be done so well,e.g. marylin manson-Nobodies(acoustic), and in, my opinion, so badly,e.g. eurythmics-sweet dreams...,doesnt haveenough going for it,i think, for the kind of song it is. Heh, u cant please all of the people, all of the time! |
i love sweet dreamas. to me this is one of the classic songs in music history.
|
ummm... i love all the songs off o but i probably skip past delicate most, dunno why... i love it, it's just... *shrugs shoulders!* i hate explaining my weird nature! i think i'd have to say maybe bottom shelf, cause i never took the time to really listen to the lyrics, its only on my computer.. so yeah, thats about it i guess! |
when i first started listening to damo i'll admit that i didnt like older chests cold water or cheers darlin' i dunno why but after listening to them more and more i love them all now! however i hate moody monday it sounds really techno or dancey and i hate that type of music!
|
i'd have to say my least fav damo songs are volcano (i guess ive just heard it too much, but every once in awhile it really fits my mood, and i really get into it) and moody mooday (havent listened to it too much but its too repetitivefor me). cheers darlin' used to be one i skipped a lot, but now its one of my favs, the piano towards the end is just excellent. even though these are my least fav damo songs, compared to most of the other music out there they are still about 100 times greater than that crap. favs: i always play "i remember" and "eskimo" first when i listen to o. "amie" is spectacular also. "the professor" and "lonelily" also. |
I dont care for moody mooday, or groovin very much. My favs are older chests, eskimo, amie, nine crimes-pretty much everything else.

I do have to admit though that i do like the live Manson version |
Older Chests. It's boring.
|
^ you are a bad bad person
|

|
I love every other song I have heard though.
|
aw, i was only joking!!!! id say my least fav song is little sister (not to be confused with baby sister, which is one of his best in my opinion!!!) fogerty...we'l make out hehe |
Yeah, I don't really like Little Sister
|
Their is no bad song!
|
My favs are obvious ones, aime, older chests, blowers daughter... luv the chorus of older chests, to me one of the best choruses ever
|
Quote:
yesyesyes! i was just singing that out (a little too) loud...time...there's always time... brilliant chorus, brilliant feeling. |
Really don't like Groovin', I think someone said he wrote ti when he was 16 or so. It sounds like it.
|
not a big fan of "Amie" anymore
|

gosh, that typo was repated too many times...sorry! can't spell. of course i meant "sweet dramas". the famous eurythmics tunes, as covered by mr. marilyn manson. that should be sorted out now... |

Tarantino put this into Kill Bill 2, it is a conversation beteen Elle and Bud, discussing Hatari Hanso swords (sp?), some believe it is a metaphor for the people who dissed Jackie Brown after Pulp Fiction and I believe it is true of Damien Rice: Elle asks Bud if the Bride's Hanso sword was better than his and he replies with something like... "If you are comparing Hatari Hanso swords, you have to compare it against every other sword made..." or something along those lines... I.E. the worst Hanso sword is still probably better than any other sword ever made... You get me or am I drinking too much coffee? |
Hmmm, enough of the weird movie, metaphor crap... I like 'em all, but will skip Cheers Darlin' if I am in the car... It kinda gives me road rage but only because I have felt that bitterness before... That is a testament to his writing skills and ability to connect with the listener by the way and not an admission that it is my least fave song. I was lucky, as I played 'O' to death and hungered for more, I found this world with 'the professor' (my fave DR song to play and listen to) 'woman like a man' 'moody monday' and so on... It was like discovering a chest of gold. |
Wise man Juzza once say ..... ..... makes sense to me mate. *lifts triple espresso* |

I didn't like Cheers Darlin' until my ex-girlfriend started going out with a new guy. I'd play it to myself whenever I wanted to feel sorry for myself... I like the song now tho, it's quite interesting, if you listen closely there's lots of things going on. Vocally it's probably not that interesting, but the clarinet (or whatever it is - anyone know for sure, french-horn?) melody is great. |
yeah, i hear ya juzza! and only had a cuppa tea, so... oh btw, it's moody mooday, not moody monday. just saying. the misconception seems to be around alot (i thought it was monday too once, untill some smartass told me) |
well id have to say i kinda got tired of eskimo on o,just listened to it too much, apart from that probably moody mOOday or have any of ye heard a version of blowers daughter without lisa and damien does her part, its just too high for him but you have to give credit to the guy for trying!best damo song i remember or the professor, legend.

Hey..been reading the forums for a while...but don't think I've ever posted. Feel like I know all the regulars who post. Anyhow, I would say my least favorite DR song is Tongue. The lyrics are good but the whole thing overall just doesn't do it for me. O- Iused tofoward through Eskimo to get to Prague..(I used to think it was too much) but its grown on me since. Favorite is - Insane |
