Random Stuff

Here is the new Random Stuff thread.

My randomness for the day: Does anyone remember Smurf Berry Crunch cereal?? I used to love that stuff! :icon_smur

bearbait 11-17-2008 06:34 PM

oop, I posted this in the wrong place! I was a bit confused, the Other Stuff spot is in a different place now. Can this thread please be deleted or moved?

mariaoran 11-17-2008 10:24 PM

^I remember that stuff. Weirdly enough you are like the fourth person to make a reference to the smurfs in the past 3 days...

Also random... I thought of Dean today when i saw this...

bearbait 11-17-2008 11:53 PM

^ That is weird . . . is it a random coincidence or does it mean something?? :icon_smur

And lol at that pic - that is one fat cat!!

verenita 11-18-2008 05:50 AM

about scotland - argentina match:

Quote:

Tomorrow's game will have extra spice because Scotland's assistant manager, Terry Butcher, reiterated he will never forgive Maradona for the Hand of God moment. "It's not nice when you lose a World Cup quarter-final under those circumstances," Butcher said. He would settle for revenge via Scotland tomorrow but the hosts' squad is weakening by the day.

get over it, man! it wasn´t maradona´s fault... he thought that he could do that, so he did it; the referee neither the lineman noticed... so, goal!
("a llorar a la iglesia.")

mariaoran 11-19-2008 02:43 AM

^^I would think its just a random coincidence, though we could make November smurf month if we'd like ;)

My former house- and drinking mate from Ireland got into the news recently:

Back in Carraroe he was perfectly described as "the tall guy who drinks too much". The most fitting sentence I ever heard about anyone...

.em. 11-19-2008 09:51 PM

I think I should just start recording samples of my songs on my mp3 player (it has a small microphone). The quality wouldn't be much (but I don't think it's horrible, but I want to do this more so that I have something to show to people, and pass around; I'm not looking for it to be professional (at this moment). I guess it would be like recording on a tape player?

Annnddd.....

World of Goo is fun,
I made this the other day:

And I really think I'll be able to take that study abroad trip to Japan next May!

Rai 11-24-2008 03:46 PM

Looking at the map I realised a rather interesting, yet so in-your-face thing: Dublin is approximately facing Blackpool and both cities' names mean the same thing.

Yetzirah 11-24-2008 09:21 PM

rai, we might be coming to budapest with the choir early next summer, if it all turns out well, so sing some asian tunes... i can't wait to learn them and if it should happen that we're coming i'll let you know! you might be back by then... we'll see :-D

Rai 11-24-2008 09:40 PM

^Ooh, I'd love to hear that! Unfortunately though I have no idea where I'll be next Summer, I finish with the school at the end of May but how long I'll stay here in Barcelona (or rather on the Iberian Peninsula) will depend on my money supplies and possibly some other unforeseeable factors.

Yetzirah 11-24-2008 09:48 PM

yeah, sure. i thought something like that might happen anyway... but i'm gonna let you know all the details in case it happens. the interesting thing is that we're actually gonna sing the songs in the original languages... at least we're gonna try...

my randomness for tonight... i just found out that isl (irish sign language) is gender related! that's because girls and boys grew up/learned signing in seperated schools. i think this is rather interesting!

Cali 11-28-2008 08:22 PM

oh, me too! i love it all the time to be honest. but it's great to walk into a comfy room in the morning that's smelling of nag champa and have a cup of tea... that's a great way to start a day!

bearbait 12-01-2008 06:38 PM

I've been drinking a lot of peppermint tea lately. Mmmm.

Dean C 12-01-2008 07:23 PM

Nag Champa lol? Sounds like some kind of japanese kayaker.

Yetzirah 12-01-2008 08:16 PM

i love my green tea in lots of variations at the moment. yummy.

^ that made me giggle :smiley10:

Cali 12-03-2008 02:49 PM

^^ ha ha, i did not see that coming. poor DV, they got him too

Rai 12-03-2008 07:24 PM

I'm either developing a healthy OCD, or I'm just extremely bored. I started counting and documenting the number of segments of the mandarines I ate.

Timeé 12-04-2008 01:40 AM

Did you describe their shape, colour and seed pattern? Because then you should be biggin' yo self up as the grand-daddy of Genetics.

I think you need a Guinness, lad.

Rai 12-04-2008 07:45 AM

^No, because their colours and shape are the same and the have no seeds. (also, I didn't get them from the plant, so I can do no proper genetic inquiries without a lab and a dozen grad students.

How can I get a Guinness? They don't really sell it here! There are some Irish pubs in BCN but I usually stay away from those places because by rule they are rubbish.

Rai 12-05-2008 04:33 PM

My weekend in Valencia will get a bit more interesting since due to a wee problem I´m stuck with about 15 euros till monday morning. Anyway, I bought two kilos of the cheapest thing I can eat without anything else being needed, which are, thankfully for my study, mandarines, this was two euros so I have 13 left for the important thing: alcohol.

Joyful 12-05-2008 04:49 PM

^ mandarines and booze: the meal of champions :D
You need to meet a sugar mama.

mariaoran 12-09-2008 05:51 PM

Check out Phil Hansen's "Goodbye Art" (love the name!). He does these art pieces with all sorts of materials and documents the process to later destroy them ... He's got some awesome stuff.

I think this one is really cool:
Quote:

This is part of a series of pieces that I am titling "goodbye art" because there is nothing left for me to keep at the end. I make a new piece each week and have a theme, the theme for the month is "Fire" so each piece will involve fire in some way.

Also i don't if anybody is interested in this but Life magazine recently released their photographic archive and its now available through google (http://images.google.com/hosted/life). I was taking a look earlier today i can already see how this will become my pass-time for coming days. Too many photographs and not enough time!

Rai will like this one :)

Rai 12-17-2008 07:34 PM

^Sure I do, he's one of my great idols :)

While sitting on a bus here in Barcelona going home I realised that I was reading a book in Nahuátl/Spanish while listening to music in Ainu and having another book (a present) about Chinese writing at hand. And I saw that its a bit strange.

Rai 12-19-2008 02:27 PM

Did the drunk thread disappear with the server crisis? I couldn't find it, though i'm not in the state for searching for anything... I never thought that teachers had soomuch fun on the last day of school. I had about a lot of beers and asome champagne and wine and also some (a lot) of great Spanish food. And I played a toy accordeon while in a bar at around noon... Also, It was my first time ever when I played a teacher-student football match (two of them) on the teacher's side. We lost. But we beat the girls in Volleyvall three of four times!

Pfuhh... I feel rather happy at the moment even though I haven't really slept uch and I drank more...

Sadly we did not get the karaoke working, there was some problem witht heh connection between the PS2 and the telly, it would have been hilarious.

Teaching is fun...

Yetzirah 12-19-2008 03:14 PM

i took part at a flash mob today and it was loads of fun! :hello2: exactly at 15:00 everyone knowing about this froze in the movement on st. stephens square in vienna (which is pretty big) for several minutes. you should've seen the faces of the people not knowing about this! just brilliant!

anyone ever done a flashmob him/herself?

mariaoran 12-30-2008 02:00 AM

^Do massive political strikes count? back in december 2002 in Venezuela schools, companies, stores and basically everyone that worked and was against our "lovely" government stopped and went out to the streets everyday and just 'marched' as a demonstration, and then at night at 7pm everyone would take their pots and pans and make noise on their balconies also as a mass demonstration... it was fun even though very unfortunate things happened, but fun times indeed..

Anywho, in keeping with the political theme, i found the perfect inauguration day t-shirt for us girls: Obama rides a unicorn!

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/e...ckounicorn.jpg

I think its cute!

Rai 12-30-2008 08:55 AM

^Nah, this is just a reworking of an old internet meme:
