~~Truth Or Dare~~

It is not a game for those who shudder at the prospect of nudity. It is not a game for those who easily flush with embarrassment. It is not a game for those rare individuals whom cannot appreciate the ripe, thirst-quenching juiciness of a deep, dark secret.

It is a game where every single “rule” about what is “age appropriate” and “civilized” is irrelevant. It is a game where primal instincts are free to roar like a lion in the hot Savannah sun. It is a game that is built around one simple question:

Truth, or dare?

Those who pick “truth” tend to be the type that hides beneath a blanket during “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, plugging their ears with their fingers, loudly humming “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” in a pathetic attempt to drown out the sound of the actors screams. Those who pick “dare” tend to be the type that doesn’t even hesitate to jump on the bar and elegantly twist their hips to bad rock music while pouring beer down their chest.

I would sooner lie on the Bible than on a game of Truth or Dare. You aren’t allowed to lie. Lying is not an option. You either spill, or stick your tongue down Rover’s throat.

I come close to honestly believing that Truth or Dare is more dangerous than gambling. After all, in gambling you risk loosing money, but in Truth or Dare you risk loosing your self-respect, reputation, and pride.

Not to mention you risk intrusting personal information in the hands of gossipy, teenage girls. After all, the VERY FIRST question a chick will ask another chick (who is naive enough to pick “truth” in a room full of people she doesn’t know that well) is: “How far have you gone with a guy?”

Ah yes. The age-old question. How much of a virgin are you? Because everyone knows that whether or not a girl has been fingered is every bit as important as knowing the names of her current boyfriend, ex boyfriend, and stalker. This is all precious information and must be covered on the very first night of gal pal-initiation: the sleepover.

The thing about Truth or Dare is that suddenly everyone in the room becomes magnificently understanding. I mean, you want people to return the favor when it’s your turn on the chopping block, don’t you? Funny how the whole golden rule concept fails to inspire today’s youth in every-day settings but becomes their lifeline in a silly game of Truth or Dare.

For example, the fact that Girlfriend#1 has gotten drunk before and made out with at least three guys she barely knew is totally “normal” and “nothing to be ashamed of” when surrounded by sleeping bags and popcorn, but worthy of the title “slut” when surrounded by lockers and test stress.

I find this to be fascinating. Why is it that we’re understanding towards someone ONLY when it is protocol in order for them to understand in return? Is it truly so selfish? Or is it the fact that when the lights are dimmed low and your surrounded by whispers and the silent understanding that whatever happens that night will never leave the room due to an overkill of potential blackmail, suddenly it feels alright to let your guard down? When a confession follows the question of “truth, or dare?” suddenly we stop caring what everyone will think of us because, hey, they’re all freaks too.

We all have things about us we’re embarrassed to admit, and we all have things about us we try to hide. We all are relieved in knowing that we may not be alone with our hidden curiosities and guilty pleasures. We all take comfort in the fact that we aren’t the only ones who screw up. We all love the satisfaction of being totally uninhibited and never having to regret it in the morning. “It was during a game of Truth or Dare” is ALWAYS a valid excuse.

I see Truth or Dare as a collective, sub-conscious cry to let our hair down. It is unnatural for a woman to be a “lady”, it is unnatural for a man to be a “gent”. It is hideously suffocating to have to contain our emotions and fall within the perimeter of what is ‘acceptable’. During a game of Truth or Dare, everything is acceptable.

I imagine Truth or Dare was invented by a group of 12-year-old girls sitting crossed-legged in the middle of the woods just outside their boarding school, still clad in their starchy plaid skirts and freshly pressed white-collared shirts, feeling very bad-ass about the fact they were cutting History to swap secrets. Still, I worship them.

i think truth or dare must be the new myspace or something. it's everywhere i go lately. cant resist though.

SisterMidnight 02-07-2006 01:41 AM

they were talking about myspace on the news earlier (my friend calls it whorespace hehe) saying it was a parents worst nightmare.. graphic sexually oriented filth they said.. they also said it sold in july for $629 million

hey aisling - truth or dare? how old were you when you got your first kiss?

;)

PenguinBoy 02-07-2006 02:36 PM

how come i never seen any graphic sexually oriented filth on myspace? 90% of myspace is either people winging about their lives, or people winging about people who winge about their lives.

Mine is in the glorious 10%, what that intails, i'm not sure.

come on ais, what are ya, chicken?

Truth or dare isn't new "darling"! they used to play it lower school, but i was a reject so i never did.

WhatAmIDarling? 02-08-2006 03:04 AM

I know it isn't new. It's been around for years and years and years.

WhatAmIDarling? 02-08-2006 03:06 AM

And I think Myspace is ridiculous. And, yes, sexual. I've seen pictures of fourteen-year-old girls in hip huggers and bikini tops BEGGING for people to post comments about bow "sexy" they look. Alot of my friends have gotten messages from Myspace pervs asking for their sn's, wanting to "hang out sometime" and wondering when they turn 18. Creepy.

Yetzirah 02-08-2006 10:36 AM

uuuuuuuuh, how creepy :smiley11:

i think aisling won't answer before tomorrow earliest. still i wanna know :smiley4:

PenguinBoy 02-09-2006 06:52 PM

meh, my myspace is full of naked pictures of me :D

myspace is a reflection of the internet. the internet has got sexual stuff on it. as has myspace, it's a heaaauge theng.

saying myspace is a parents worst nightmare is like saying that the internet is a parents worst nightmare. and even the internet is a reflection of the world. there's good stuff and bad stuff. "being in public" is a parents worst nightmare.

kiddies should be taught how to behave in public, on the internet, and on myspace. if they are, they'll be fine.

AAAAAAANy way, TRUTH OR DARE. how do u decide who goes next?

Aisling 02-10-2006 12:02 AM

Yetzirah 02-10-2006 12:31 AM

Beevers_uk 02-10-2006 12:31 AM

Yetzirah 02-10-2006 12:35 AM

yetzirah, truth or dare!

Yetzirah 02-10-2006 12:41 AM
