Just wondering how many of us from North America are on this site? Who are you people and where are you from?
|
Hmm...I think we already did that one, but no harm in doing it again, is there?
I'm in Boston. |
hi, I'm in Sunny California
|
oh yeah...I forgot...I live in a suburb of Chicago called Iowa.
|
Hey, I'm from Toronto, Canada.
|
im in boston
|
Hi, I am from Sunny Southern California and about ten minutes from Disneyland...but I never go because it sucks. I do not know about you all, but I am having a little trouble with some of the Irish lingo used on this site..I wish someone would interpret.
|
What Irish lingo do you need help with? I'm German, but maybe I can translate from Irish into Sunny Sothern Californian!
|
irish lingo...ara sure begorrah lads we're all speaking english....ahha...just kidding
any questions fire ahead! |
I had no idea Ireland got the Simpsons. It is all my step-brother watches. Lingo...just little stuff you see here and there. Also, what exactly is United Kingdom. I thought the U.K. included Ireland, Scotland, England and maybe something else. It is like America and U.S. Is it the same thing or are there different countries involoved....ach, I am so confused. What is a busker. It says I am a Eskimo Busker. What exactly is that? And why do the titles keep changing and how do they change; by posts, time, date of membership?

The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland: UK map & facts
Ireland (minus Northern Ireland) has been independent of the UK since 1921. I think this message board is under control of Cork which you can see in the southwest of Ireland. The capital, Dublin, is to the east, and artsy Galway is the next bay over from Boston! A "busker" is a street musician. I don't think that word is used in the US To come back to the topic at hand, Damien started out as a busker. I feel like a teacher now. Wait...I *am* a teacher. Quick, someone hand me a tangent! |
OOOH Angela....while you provided a very good explanation, its kinda lucky there doesn't seem to be any Welsh people on the board!! They would be ! The UK also includes Wales.....they would definitely see themselves as a separate country.
|
Why aren't there any welsh people here? Hmm. I want more Welsh people here. So if you're lurking then jump in and say hello! So do I have to change the name from Eskimo Busker to something else now? Maybe I should use thelingo of the people's republic of cork on this site so nobody understands! Oh that would be funny... |
Sorry wot you don't have to change busker to any thing else!! But more Cork lingo could be good! I could be a bior and you could be a fladh all the welsh people lost yet???
|
eskimo langer I think could totally confuse people not fluent in corkconian, like!
|
langer is ok i'd be more worried about the accent in which the people of the people's republic speak in!! moohahahaah!
UK = England + Scotland + Wales + Northern Ireland Republic of Ireland = Irelans - Northern Ireland... amazing i didn't lose the topic to a tangent... |
Heres a crash course in Corkonian. I'm still baffled by some of the things they come out with!...although, I spose every area in Ireland has its own slang words
C'mere = Excuse me I will, yeah = no What's the story fella? = How are you? how's the form? = How are you? how's it hanging? = How are you? You would yeah = You wouldn't dare Here la = here you are there la = it's over there/look over there State a him la = He looks bad I claim ya = I would really like to engage in a fight with you. Pure = very Like = this word is used at least once in every Cork sentence. Like eh = Used as a hesitation at the start of a sentence. Nawful = terrible Bate = beat up have a lash off = have a go Lash into hash = Smoke cannibas Be wide = be careful Be dog wide = be extra careful How bad boy = good Brasser/stella/tramp/trollup = prostitute Jammy Rag = tampon Wan/bure = female Young wan = female child Fella/fein/ feeno/your man = male Small fella = Male child Apache = a young person up to no good Salk = stolen car Sham-feen = macho or hard-man Snout/gonker/snoz = nose Gowl(Ghoul) = Stupid person Gimp = idiot Fifty = Stood up Poppies/tatties = Potatoes Shades/law/blue-bottles/pigs/5-0 = Garda(police) Two-bulb/shade = mobile squad car Pig stie = Garda(police) station Gatch = walk Gammy = deformed Jag/doing a line/jaggin/meetin a wan/with/ = going out with Gatt/gattin/on the tear/on the piss = drink/drinking Reef/reefin/mangle = beat up/beating up Lamp/skanse/la = look Droppin/Waz = need to go to the toilet/restroom Norrie = Person from Northside of the Cork City. Oh, btw langer = gowl/gimp etc!! |
Hi everybody...I am from Brazil-Sao Paulo |

But....I'll make up for it! Because I know we actually have a Welsh member on the board: "JackMartinEF" |

Oh well yeah, but its used in a like, totally(like, totally!!) different way.
In Cork its often at the end of the sentence(as opposed to above) and its kinda drawwwn out, liiike! Nyway, that isn't my list, I just c&p'd it from an e-mail i got, liiike! Oh, about the Welsh, The Stereophonics/Welsh rugby fans sing a great song called "As long as we beat the English" ...so if JackMartin is there, this is for him! We don't wanna be your enemy, But when we're on the field, It's red, white and green, Get beat by the Irish, Get beat by the Scots, The French ought'ta struggle, But you're the one we want, We want... As long as we beat the English, As long as we beat the English, As long as we beat the English, we don't care As long as we beat the English, As long as we beat the English, As long as we beat the English, we don't care We don't care |
Welcome Katya, I think you might be first Brazilian here! Do tell your friends!

Sorry dude. That wasn't my intention. I wouldn't see that as racism in any shape or form though. Its just sporting rivalry, is it not?

Thanks Angela, I felt kinda bad there for a minute
I mean, even the first line is: "we don't wanna be your enemy" I just think its quite funny to hear them sing it is all. Its like that thing last year when the BBC(English station) wanted everyone to vote for the best song of all time on their website and some bright spark in Ireland started one of those snowball e-mails to get "A Nation once again" by the Wolfe Tones up there. It was just a laugh, in fairness, and I don't think anyone took it too seriously! |
Nah, don't feel bad. I think Jack is in a bad mood because he can't get to a Tim Buckley video I uploaded elsewhere, ha, ha
