Can't record. Worse than Gestapo

Chann 10-27-2014 09:13 PM

Here's what I remember of the setlist :D

Delicate
9 crimes
I don't want to change you
Insane
The greatest bastard
Black is the colour
Coconut skins
Woman like a man
Older chests
Blower's Daughter
Elephant
Amie
Colour me in
The professor & La fille danse
Vulcano
My favourite faded fantasy
Eskimo (unplugged)
I remember (with My Bubba)
Trusty and true (with choir)

might have forgotten one or two and mixed the order here or there :D

Edit: above setlist should now be complete and correct

borneoman 10-27-2014 09:20 PM

So was it taped? Cos 3voor12 are great at recording shows! a show with all the newies + Insane could be great!! Plus Black is the Colour is my fav cover that Damo does!

Chann 10-27-2014 09:26 PM

Pretty sure it was completely recorded - I saw a screen with the footage in a corner somewhere. :D

I'm a tiny bit disappointed by the fact that he did not interact with the audience at all, though. Not even a hi or anything. I think the only thing he said was to welcome the two girls from MyBubba who played before his show... they joined him in I Remember. Probably no interaction because of the recording. Other than that, it was absolutely thrilling that I could finally see him live and he was amaaazing! :)

eva_arg 10-27-2014 09:27 PM

any show with Insane in it is my fave :D

lod 10-27-2014 10:05 PM

Wonder why he didn't talk...he seemed chatty at the other gigs I've seen...

Lys 10-27-2014 10:11 PM

Aaaaagggh what a show!! Songs that faded into songs that faded into other songs...my dream set list too. I was quite high up on the balcony but view was good. Great sound as always in this venue. Lights better too because of recording. Took the big cam out today and recorded a bunch for those who cannot wait to the 3voor12 recording
No cam police in sight! At one point there was some confusion
about a big group of peeps wanting to leave in the middle of the show, making the audience have to stand up for them to pass. I knew right there and then it was a choir awesome. Sorry about your ticket Caro. That really sucks. I hope they can do something about it.

Carré usually has a strict curfew and maybe they wanted as many songs possible for the recording?

Chann 10-27-2014 10:20 PM

Oh my, I hadn't realised the people standing up were the choir, haha! That explains a lot! I did know that a choir was coming though as they were soundchecking together while we were waiting before the show. ^^

The only song that would've finished the dream setlist for me would be Accidental Babies, which is one of myabsolute favourites haha. But I sure loved the setlist too, a lot of oldies bht new ones too! Only one missing would be The Box, I guess? ;)

Oh and Stef, it was nice to meet you! Sorry I couldn't stay after the show or meet up any more. I'm sure we'll see each other again, one day in the future. :P

Chrysler 10-27-2014 10:32 PM

it was professionally video & audio taped.
guess he played that many song so they can pick the best ones for marketing.
this was a great evening for many reasons.
damien tried to be especially artsy/creative tonight and i guess he was nervous because of the recording being made. he slighty "varied" many of the songs in tempo, lyrics etc.
For some songs it worked nicely (for whoever knows the songs so good, he would recognize) and for some songs (at one particular part of the show) be messed up big time; especially with transitions between songs.
He played sooo many songs and many very so special - a real treat and and therefore for of the most memorable shows ive seen. :)

don't have time for any of the other shows :(
so have fun whoever attends any of the remaning shows....and make recordings..and share them for petes sake!! ;)

Chann 10-27-2014 10:50 PM

Yes, I definitely noticed those many small alterations, which made it even better for sure! Loved that he didn't just play the album versions of the older songs too. :)

carrroline 10-27-2014 11:52 PM

He was wearing the suspenders :)

My favourite moments...
Black is the colour
Colour me in
Insane
I remember (with the girls from my bubba)
Eskimo unplugged
Blower's daughter fading into elephant

Really strange that he didn't speak. (Only to introduce the girls, not even a simple 'hi' to the audience) incredible set though.

Oh, and I enjoyed chatting to some fellow Eskimos afterwards :hello:

Lys 10-28-2014 12:15 AM

Great trio...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhV_...ature=youtu.be

rest is uploading on my channel, while I'm getting a well needed rest :sleepy2:

Oh here some nice pics http://www.concertcamera.nl/damien-r...theater-carre/

Pat83 10-28-2014 12:46 AM

@ Caroline: Were you the one that ran off to an ATM after everybody had entered the place and this couple offered you the ticket for €50 cash?

@ Chann: I kinda agree with you there. He wasn't interacting whatsoever. Yesterday in Brussel he was in a much more comfortable mood where he chatted about all sorts of stuff related to pain. The **** under your shoe story was the best bit :P The lack of interaction resulted in a gig that took a while to set off. The best part was when he came back for the second bit if you ask me. This "I remember" version was brilliant, which he should have sung more in the beginning of the show to get the crowd going as well. He probably didn't feel that chatty, because of the crowd. Of course he could have said hello or whatever, but the crowd also didn't really trigger something. It even felt awkward at times to the point where I just initiated the applause to give some feedback. Perhaps that's also why he didn't do any requests. Yesterday he did a n acoustic version of Accidental Babies (recording on Youtube) and 2 songs in one Amie/Eskimo. Aslo at the Brussl gig he asked the crowd to join in with Volcano and Trusty & True.

Obviously it's still our Damo playing and he's a frikkin genius and without a doubt my number one artist!! :D Notes were spot on, just him and his guitar, just the way I like it :) One moment he pulls you towards him with his fragile whispering and the next he blasts you away with his blazing guitar and belting perfection.

I recorded the Audio of the gig, but I haven't listened to it yet plus I have no idea how I'm supposed to share this here. Also, I just have a new phone and I couldn't find the standard recorder. Had to download one and no clue if it actually worked and if it's proper quality.

carrroline 10-28-2014 12:58 AM

That was a manic upset desperate version of me yeah :-/
I don't think that's the way i want people to remember me. :)
Did we talk? ( still can't sleep and have to get up 'round five-ish)

Lys 10-28-2014 01:07 AM

Oh hi I also can't sleep :P Too much adrenaline going in my system :)

is it just me or he seems to be very uncomfortable in this video?

Shillelagh 10-28-2014 04:35 AM

Kinda sounds like he doesn't want to be there. Bit sloppy.

yes, especially the part after he messed up with lyrics of The Blower's Daughter, though later he slowed down and played Elephant beautifully

borneoman 10-28-2014 06:25 AM

but it does´t make sense that he does´t interact just cos it´s being filmed :( should be the opposite... the recording should reflect how his concerts usually are (chatty and interactive, at least, lately)

carrroline 10-28-2014 06:41 AM

I think he might just have been nervous or something.
He didn't sound sloppy at all to me. He only made mistakes during the blower's daughter. The whole set was breathtaking actually.

Annaa09 10-28-2014 06:41 AM

He is Damien Rice, musically he was brilliant. At the beginning of the concert I noticed he looked uncomfortable, the fading songs were amazing, but I was hoping he would chain a few songs and then be the chatty Damien. The whole concert felt awkward to me, I could see him perfectly from the front row and I felt he was maybe pissed, uncomfortable or tired. Made me feel bad, I was wondering what was up the whole time... Maybe he didn't want the concert to be recorded?
Initially I wanted to stay afterwards and try to see him but I kind of felt like it wasn't the right night to do so...

CoffeeJunkie 10-28-2014 07:49 AM

I felt the same way Annaa09, it was awesome but awkward. But if he didn't feel chatty yesterday, I'm glad he didn't feel the need to be chatty and act funny. I love him being pure and honest. Being introvert myself(and assuming he is), I truly understand you can't just push a button and be chatty. When you're low on energy, you stay low untill you had some quiet time.

Lys 10-28-2014 08:21 AM

whatever his reason for being not chatty - musically the night was a dream for me! I loved how I never got the time to recuperate from the previous song but was pulled into the next eargasm :PPP

edit: btw guys I have a file stuck in youtube because it's too big. Converted it but now the sound is skipping. Anyone know of a good (and free) solution?

Edit2: he explained about not being chatty - in this radio show http://giel.vara.nl/media/322313 (140 min in) apparently his mind wondered off in the first part, due to a 'shark in his head' and there was something stopping him from finishing songs and he just wanted to go with the feelings he had and he didn't feel natural to talk.
He said the second part was different...(hmm must have missed something then haha).

So, good for him, just doing as he feels!

I love the 'shark inside my head' story. That Giel guy is really annoying though.

damien lisa 10-28-2014 09:53 AM

for me, i'm glad that he didn't chat

Lys 10-28-2014 10:04 AM

this is the video of that interview, where he tells the shark story, ahah
WARNING - for everyone who is avoiding new songs, just skip from minute 5:30 to 6:05 more or less, because a bit of Colour Me In is played.
