borneoman 11-20-2010 08:43 AM

anyone good at transcribing? there's a couple places when I'm totally clueless... what does he sing after 'of all the foolish alibis...'??

Amie R. 11-20-2010 10:05 AM

Damien is a healer. He is trying to heal the world with his music. That's so inspiring...

verenita 11-20-2010 11:41 AM

^ like your words, karla. agreed!

beautiful song! thanks rach :)
is it vyv on backing vocals? it seems to me, but iīm not sure.

borneoman 11-20-2010 11:55 AM

think it might be the blonde girl doing backing vocals, cannot remember her name now, the one that sang What If I'm Wrong with him at Santa Barbara...

verenita 11-20-2010 11:59 AM

^ july if i remember well... thatīs what i thought too, but i just like the idea of vyv on backing vocals :D

EDIT: itīs julia, not july :p (thanks glo ;))

borneoman 11-20-2010 12:00 PM

attempt at lyrics :smiley9:

Of all the foolish things to do
I became a conoisseur of great excuse
in my pessimistic past
the blame will never make this go away

Of all the foolish things I've said
that keep me sleepy, almost dead
I'm sorry if I've let you down
my eyes were closed, they're open now

I'm waking up, I am waking up (x repeat)

And this has all been said before
I've listened but then I ignored
my ears grew deaf, my head gave up
the junkie knows not when to stop

Of all the foolish alibis
the constant pain and push for why
I had a blanked pulled over my eyes
oh hush now baby don't you cry

I'm waking up, I am waking up (x repeat)

glo32 11-20-2010 12:01 PM

I really like this song :icon_pray

well done with the lyrics, but there are a few things. it should probably be and this has all been said before, and then my ears grew deaf. the last line of that verse sounds like the joke he knows not where to stop, but that doesn't really make sense either?
blanket not blanked in the last verse, but otherwise I think it's right. he does mumble a lot though, doesn't he?

and oooh I loved the song. so so so relieved I'm not completely underwhelmed. There might be hope for us yet. Damien we love you!!:hello2:

borneoman 11-20-2010 01:23 PM

^thanks, did the typing too fast, not sure why I wrote eyes instead of ears. gonna edit.

I also think the song is all kinds of amazing and beautiful!!!

Yeah, me too sadly. It's ok. I wanted to love it.

cille 11-20-2010 02:53 PM

^It's sort of too 'clean' to me. But maybe he needs to do this kind of pretty stuff for a while or something, for his own sake. I'd like a bit of dirt in there. It's just so neat from the get-go and throughout. Oh well, maybe I'll like next song better?

Joyful 11-20-2010 03:01 PM

^ Yeah. I agree it is too "clean" for me too. I don't like the end at all. I want it muddier. I loved "What if I'm wrong" , the build up, the emotion, classic Damien. This is ok, but I have higher expectations for him. This song is too pretty. But like you said, it could be the space that he is in and/or needs to be in right now. I respect that. You can't be miserable all the time. Although, it does usually produce better music.

Rai 11-20-2010 03:15 PM

I agree that it's meh. Just doesn't leave any impression. The only thing I remember after a listening that the end is a Beatles rip-off.

rachlanee 11-20-2010 03:24 PM

It did remind me of the Beatles at the end, but it doesn't seem like a rip off. I like the muddier songs that are full of emotion as well, but if you aren't in that place emotionally, it may come across as fake. It shows his range, and variety is good.

me 2

borneoman 11-20-2010 03:38 PM

personally I find it full of emotion, think the lyrics are really deep and touching on so many levels... don't get the clean comment :bom:

ko210 11-20-2010 05:01 PM

I wanted to love it because it feels like it's been forever since we've had anything new from him, but it just isn't doing anything for me.

Really love WIIW, though.

daavo 11-20-2010 05:01 PM

Yeah, it's OK I suppose, and it's great to hear his voice on something new. But, without wanting to sound too negative, if I heard it as a b-side (or on a compilation album) I'd think 'hmm, that's quite nice' and then never listen to it again. Would I like it at all if it wasn't Damien's voice? Probably not.

It's kind of like Grey Room meets Hey Jude, but not as good as that should be, haha.

Yetzirah 11-20-2010 05:57 PM

i like the song maybe because it just shows a new side of damien. i understand that it could come across as "meh"... but i guess when you're in the right mood for it it's perfect! i'm just really happy that he released something new out of his suitcase!

it might have been posted already, but i love her voice. it kind of reminds me of lisa. and i think damien's and her voice just fit together just as his did with lisa's...
