Damien's saddest song??

someone was asking me now... what do you think it's Damien's saddest song???

not sure... was thinking that for me it's probably Fool... the combination of sad lyrics, the way Damien sings plus the cello makes it the saddest to me

what do you all reckon?

Joyful 04-14-2012 07:08 PM

Accidental Babies is my choice.

davidcotyalex 04-14-2012 09:03 PM

cold water

although after watching this I think I am sadder about what once was than what the song does to me!

Spamlet 04-15-2012 05:36 AM

Cheers, Darlin' is pretty damned bleak, innit?

QueenOfTheSouth 04-15-2012 09:58 AM

So so many for me:
Accidental Babies, the very, very last "Do you feeeeel...like you...belong?", and "What about me?" before Vyvienne's cello part
9 Crimes ending, especially whenever he cries out "no" until his voice gets hoarse
Is That It My Friend, the "I'm all I'm alright" part
Old Tomatoes leading into Delicate

I wonder just how much Damien wallows in his own self-pity and depression...it's hard enough to take it just as listeners

borneoman 04-15-2012 03:49 PM

Just realised this also could be a contender for saddest Damo song... Forgotten Deers!! :)

I wonder, where do deers go to be forgotten?? ;)

eva_arg 04-16-2012 12:30 PM

for me, Accidental Babies for sure

MANGO 04-17-2012 03:55 AM

baby sister!

mandarific 04-17-2012 03:45 PM

Either "Accidental Babies" or "Dogs."

I mean, "Dogs" starts out happy, but then by the end the "and there's no need for me" gets me every time.

thatīs the first line i thought of when i read the title of this thread :(

i still havenīt decided which is is the saddest song yet, but i sort of agree with every one posted so far.

Shahar 04-19-2012 04:49 PM

What about Lonely Soldier?

borneoman 04-23-2012 03:58 PM

you're right about the last line in Dogs changing the meaning... love those one-lines that he adds at the very end of songs... it's a bit like 'And You Know it's a Lie' in Elephant...

was thinking that Then Go is a pretty sad one too!!

insanebaby 04-28-2012 11:18 AM

my vote goes for "Is that it my friend" and an older song: "Orchard".

DanielM 05-04-2012 02:20 PM

I have to say "Forgotten deers".

SisterMidnight 05-08-2012 04:55 AM

Insane.. or Prague.

I believe Orchard was written by Dave Geraghty or maybe Paul Noonan...but I dont want to get into a 'royalty' arguement here lol

ishoutedmyjoy 05-09-2012 07:48 PM

yeah they are all up there but i would have to go with insane, "i guess im no good, i guess im insane"

I have no idea who was it written by, but I listened to Damien's version and it reached the lowest (or highest) point of what I call sadness.. it's actually more than sadness, can't really define the feeling..

verenita 05-10-2012 05:27 PM

^ welcome back! :) good to *see* you again!

Samart 05-10-2012 08:24 PM

I always thought Damien saddest song was the one he hasn't wrote yet. :)

very true.. when I first listened to The waiting song with Glen I was thinking "could he possibly write a sadder song than this one?", but then came Wild and Free and now I think that his saddest song is yet to be written.. probably he'll write it when he'll be old like Johnny Cash and write a song that will feel like a general conclusion of his life experience..

cille 05-11-2012 10:24 AM

Mood Mooday. Sad in SO many ways.

utslb56 05-13-2012 06:41 AM

Accidental Babies and Insane do it for me. I especially like the live version of Accidental Babies with the long piano ending, the cello and Damien asking '...what about me...!'

oh my! prague... definitely prague. i was listening this song today, with my headphones and itīs pure sadness...

"I’m all wrapped up in you
I’m all wrapped up in him too."

yet magic at the same time. i recently discovered the chords behind the main guitar (sorry, i donīt know how to explain it, not even in spanish :p) and i absolutely surrendered to this song... and to damienīs talent.

borneoman 05-14-2012 01:03 PM

love the line in Prague that goes "I could wait for you/Like that hole in your boot/Waiting to be fixed"!!!

Joyful 05-14-2012 03:01 PM

Ooh, yeah, Prague is wonderfully depressing too.

mandarific 05-14-2012 03:10 PM

"wonderfully depressing" - isn't that just the quintessential Damo description?

Thinking on this some more, I remember feeling horribly depressed/simultaneously inspired the first time I heard "Wild and Free" (if that's what we're still calling it.) Maybe it was a situational thing because we hadn't heard much from him in awhile, or maybe it was because I felt guilty after hearing it for wanting so much new music, but agh.

For what it's worth, "Everything I'm Not Supposed To Be" that he wrote/sang with Melanie Laurent is also pretty sad.
