Great or bad idea?

What do you reckon, great or bad idea???? :p

worst Damien idea imho

glo32 06-30-2010 11:35 AM

it was funny :P
it was a one time thing... so as long as he doesn't start playing it at every gig, it's fine...

Spamlet 06-30-2010 11:55 AM

I loved it.

Samart 06-30-2010 07:11 PM

Of course great idea. And as Glo said, it was a one time experience, so it's ok.
Damien himself knows that this song sounds better played calm and in a melancolic way, the way he played it so many times.

But trying something new, being creative and stimulate oneself (with his own music !) is very very good I think.

IMHO () he should do this kind of think more often, when he will be back on stage. :)

borneoman 06-30-2010 09:32 PM

Yes, same, played only once in Boston (11 Dec 06). I passed the CD of the gig this morning to my compu, that's why I remembered this version... and then I remembered there was a mislabelled live version on youtube :)

In his defense, the rest of the gig is stellar, it has Face, Sand, plus that 11 minute version of Accidental Babies with both an intro and an outro with Vyv, best AB ever, goosebumps!!!

glo32 06-30-2010 11:18 PM

i think the best video of it is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyZCwyyoZaE

mariaoran 06-30-2010 11:55 PM

Oh hai blast from the past video. I kind of love this right now he should play it like this more often.

gomezxico 07-01-2010 04:53 AM

Agree, but I certainly wouldn't mind hearing a Damo-based cover CD of his songs in this style. If this is his way of being creative, then by all means, Mr. Rice, bloom away!

Any chance you'll share the CD, borneo?

Amie R. 07-01-2010 01:58 PM

I love it too.

eva_arg 07-02-2010 12:07 PM

are you kidding? this was awesome :)

Cerque 07-03-2010 12:41 PM

That was friggin awesome, kudos to you Damo!

borneoman 07-03-2010 02:02 PM

really amazed that you all like it :p but isn't so cos he didn't play it at your gig eh?? :p imagine that it's your first Damien gig, you've been waiting for ages to her TBD in person... and then he does THAT... would you still like it? :p

October Sky 07-03-2010 03:30 PM

LOL! I LOVED it! Can we have a re-release of this song, please!

I would have actually loved it if he did that when I saw him. I remember him not being all too adventurous with his set list, which disappointed me because I'd heard of him doing all these great unreleased songs and rare songs and stuff before. I think he stuck to the basics- probably because it was a new city for him in America and he probably didn't know how people would react to him. Anyway, I would have loved if he did something like this!

Oh, and that's not to say it wasn't an AMAZING concert, btw!

Samart 07-03-2010 09:42 PM

Dear Marti,

With all the HUGE respect I have for you, if you listen to the crowd immediat and genuine response to this version, you could easily understand that most of them liked it. To me, yes, maybe only in your restricted configuration, some may be disapointed (but in your case, I think it was not your first Damo gig, so I thought that you would like it, but it seems that it is not the case).

Anyway, be sure we totaly understand that you don't like it and respect that. It's not a big issue at all. But, maybe to us, a great song is a great song, and having it perfomed in a new way just bring something new, so... we just like it.

ps : And I will add this : always searching for the perfect show sometimes is not the best way to have a perfect show. I mean, aiming for the best sound, the best way to play a song, because the "crazy improvisations", "mistakes" are parts of a show. I think greats artists are aware of that. But they may aim for that "perfection" when they are shooting a live DVD... :)

Amie R. 07-03-2010 11:20 PM

I wish he will do that version next time I see him alive :-)

No, but as long as the whole concert wasn't in that fashion, it would be okay!

verenita 07-04-2010 02:41 AM

iīm not sure if "great or bad idea" is the right question (with all respect, marti. i hope you know it). it would be more like "do you like it or not?", imho. i mean, i donīt think it was "an idea", it just was what he felt he wanted to do, spontaneously, you know. the audio quality isnīt that good, at least to me, but i think it was a funny twist...

thanks :) too loudly imho, but i keep in mind what i said before.

gomezxico 07-06-2010 05:09 AM

Having seen some (not a huge amount, though) of TBD and other songs on youtube and the likes, but never in person, I'd still be glad to hear something different when these songs come up. If he plays this or any other song this way if I ever get the chance to see him live, I'd love it.

But like Vere said, for some people the way you've always heard it on the record is the way you should hear it live so...all in all, I'd be okay with hearing either version--I'm happy as long as the man keeps playing any gigs :smiley16:
