Lisa Tour 08

Well we lost the old thread, but here's a summary of the Irish leg of the tour:

A-W-E-S-O-M-E

Maybe on of our American correspondents can summarise the US tour thus far and we'll be all catched up :icon_kidr

I loved this in the Billboard inteview:

your summary is brilliant!

I agree with Vee... you pretty much summed it up for us North Americans too :D She was brilliant! And stunningly beautiful:

I'll be seeing her Saturday night in Chicago, so hopefully I'll have a somewhat adequate review by Sunday/Monday!

antism 11-21-2008 02:52 AM

As tempting as it is to see her in Chicago on Saturday, I'm not about to pay $35 to see her perform for 45 min. I would then leave simply because I would never be able to sit through a Mraz set. Bah! Hopefully she'll do some smaller clubs on another run around the US.

signalfire 11-21-2008 03:04 AM

It's sold out anyway. I'm going to try to keep an open mind about Mraz's music even though it's not really my thing. Looking forward to Lisa, not looking forward to the crowd.

Look how especially happy Jason is at the end of this video (amongst all the other videos of Lucky floating around in youtube).. The magic of Lisa. And a kiss at the end of the song for a 48(?)day tour. Lucky indeed.

^ Great vid! Even though it seems like audiences have been not quite at capacity for her opening set, it's nice to see everyone cheer when she starts singing there!

I've got a pretty great mp3 of the duet (from Oct. 27, 2008) if anyone's interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?dza5tnujjmy

Doesn't look like anyone's taped her opening set yet though...

signalfire 11-24-2008 10:54 AM

Still exhausted from the weekend, but I hope I can write a review tonight. In the meantime, I've put up as many pictures as possible on Flickr before it yelled at me because I have a free account. Oops.

Those are some great shots you got! ^^^ Thanks!

I saw Lisa and the gang when they played at Freeborn Hall in Davis, Ca earlier this month. After the show I met her and we had a nice little chat. She then signed my copy of Sea Sew and I've included a pic below. Overall, it was an amazing experience!

I just got back from Nashville and of course Lisa was wonderful.
The audience seemed to really like her, especially when she rocked the $h!+ out of Free Until They Cut Me Down. During her set she thanked Jason for inviting them on tour and said it was "the best time they'd had on tour ever."

When Lisa and the band first took the stage clips of this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nda_OSWeyn8

came up on the screen. They seemed a bit confused, looking around like WTF! but then they just waited and watched, had a bit of a laugh and started the show. Then in the middle of her set some Lucky Charms commercial interrupted them. They laughed along with it and Lisa added "that's exactly what it's like in Ireland." I'm not sure if it was obnoxious and rude or a cute inside joke on Mraz's part :icon_scra

After she and Mraz finished Lucky he gave her a bouquet of flowers, since in was her last night. He kept saying how she was his "most special" friend, guest, singer etc. Then when he was taking the polaroids of the band he called Lisa back onstage by saying "and the beautiful lady in the vintage dress" and the band came out all wearing Lisa-style dresses. Lisa was dressed as a man. I think she even had a mustache.

I stayed for all of Jason Mraz because I knew Lisa would be joining him near the end but I do wish I could have just listed to her for 2 hours. I've learned I can only take Mraz in small doses.

Support for Lisa this Friday in Cork is from Gavin Glass.
It doesn't say it in the Cypress Avenue site but it was on their mailing list with also saying there a few standing tickets left

Wheels 12-09-2008 07:58 AM

Glad Gavin's supporting again... he's really good. Deserves some solo spotlight.

Wheels 12-10-2008 09:28 PM

That's exactly how I felt... luckily, I saw she was playing a solo show in LA and snagged up some tickets. It was soooo amazing. Her guitarist opened for her (how sweet!) and even though it sounded like her voice was gone when she spoke, when she sang it was as strong as ever. I really like all of the little additions and changes from the album (which I love too)... like the whistle/flute thinger, and having all the bandmates switch up instruments every so often. There wasn't a cellist or violinist, but with all their excitement and xylophones and accordion-thingers, it didn't matter.

I hope she comes back here too!
