The Rat within the grain is a fantastic song. It is a toss between Elephant and the animals were gone but i love accidental babies.

For me it has to be Grey Room. The first time I heard it it didn't do an awful lot for me. But it was my partner's [at the time] favourite on the album, and it quickly became mine as well. For some reason, some of Damien's stuff doesn't win me over straight away, but seeps into me instead. There isn't a song on 9 or o I don't love.
As a writer, and usually quite a dark writer, I think Grey Room is one of the few songs that really captures the emotion of the process for me. Just pushing and pushing people for inspiration, falling into desperation, destroying things, capturing things, trusting, hoping, losing. For me, Grey Room is a chronicle of just how hard life as a writer can be sometimes, as you trap yourself in stupid mindsets. Yet there's still that huge element of hope in it. |
Grey Room is definetly an amazing song, I love poetry and some of the imagery he uses in that song is just beautiful.

Elephant. My favorite Damien song.

Haha, thanks.

The imagery , assonance and alliteration and music of Grey Room is amazing. I love this song.

I'm quite addicted to '9 Crimes'. I am constantly checking if there are new versions on youtube or somewhere else. And when I start playing for myself or before recording something, most of the time it's that song that helps me to set free the levels of emotion I need. So... addiction.

Hm, I actually stopped listening to it.
|
I've been pondering "accidental babies" for months and months. what the hell does "the boom that beats our drum" mean? :) I've been thinking sexually but.. any thoughts?
|
Erhm, what excites her? I dunno, I don't think you're supposed to be able to translate it into a particular sexual act :D
|
^^Maybe it's this kind of boom:
http://www.dvuser.co.uk/images/img/a...m-pole/mic.jpg This would mean that the song is about a girl (or man, after all we have concluded that all Damien songs not about his penis are about Shane) really into sound engineering |
Boomer! The mic is in the (drum) frame!
Lazy (sound guy) situation. |
The boom that beats their drum... the source of their rhythm... so basically just their passion. ?

Truncated and saved for my personal self..
tl;dr version: Love it all, including Sea Sew. It's made to go together. One Love, Glockypaws Silent night, sorrowful night Night when I feel like I can't make wrong right You put your trust in me, of this much I'm sure I’ll repay your penance by keeping it gold I will stop your crying to sleep Sleep in heavenly peace Silent night, beautiful night These things can change Please give me fight You'd done no better when taking my pride Blood brings new flowers, They’ll bask in new light I won't stop your getting to sleep, Sleep... In heavenly peace. |
I am extremely impressed by Elephant
|
My favourite song (as you can imagine) is Rootless Tree.
But in fact I love the piano version, so my favourite song on "9" is not REALLY on "9"... |
definitely Me, My Yoke & I.
so powerful live, the ebb and flow of the song, and the dark lyrics too really enhance the emotions in the song. |
i so loooove this song too, but i think we are just a few who like it, he.
|
Such a tricky question, honestly love all of them. It came down between, 'Rootless Tree' , 'Elephant,' 'Accidental babies' and '9 crimes.' I chose Rootless tree, I love how powerful it is and the lyrics are seriously beautiful. ^^
|
"nothing is lost it's just frozen in frost"
nice, evocative lyrics. My favourite. |
elephant....rootless tree...
