I was talking to a guy in work today about Damien's success and tried to work out how many copies of O he's sold.

What I worked out was:

US: 167,000
UK: It's gone gold which is at least 100,000
Ireland: I believe that its triple platinum which adds another 60,000

Thats a total of 327,000, pretty good going, Damien is going to find himself quite wealthy when the big royalty cheques start rolling in.

But the figure may not be accurate, the UK figure may be underestimated by 99,999 (although its unlikely to be that great), similarily there is a 19,999 margin for error for the irish figure which would give an upper possible sales figure of 446,998.

Also this figure doesn't take into account the sales for the rest of the world.

Wow, I got amazingly long winded here, I started this post just to ask one simple question:

Does anyone have any idea how many copies of O Damien has sold?

i thought platinum meant selling a million records?

Though I doubt this is going to make him rich. The promotional costs here in the US in particular must be pretty high. There are record companies, distributors, management, laywers etc. etc. to be paid.

i dont think damien could give one, do you? he's one of the most laid back relaxed guys in the industry. i have friends in bands who are finding it so hard, the struggle, the record company giving so little, working an extra job and im talking about signed bands who haverecords released.

damien will not be skint but he deserves it, he has a great label who promote him at every chance, i've handed out damien flyers an stuff at gigs, but being part of warner helps, an excellent record company.

'O' is still selling in droves and will continue to. and yes, ive had a few tonight so i'll stop talking before this becomes a feckin' book.Edited by: philp

I'm fairly sure it's 15,000 in Ireland. Noway, too, I think.

the figures Ian has are the same ones I've heard lately, so sounds about right.

yes 15,000 copies is platinum in Ireland.

thats incredible

and my mate tried to convince me that platinum is 1 million sale no matter where... to which i replied "so damo has sold 3 million albums in ireland alone?" and he goes "yeah....the lucky bastard" http://www.freecfm.com/d/damien/foru...ys/smiley4.gif

Da same in Latvia

Ok, I was basing the Irish platinum on a figure of 20,000.

Knocking the extra 15,000 off gives a new lower figure of 312,000.

I would imagine that Damien's record deals are quite favourable, after all he brought a finished product to them so its not like he owes them recording costs as they are only distributing the record in whatever territory they are based in.

and i'm sure he has sold something like 100 000 ciopies around the rest of europe.
