Later with Jools Holland

New series has just started. It would be ideal timing for Damien to be on with the new album coming out.

Has her ever been on?

borneoman 09-21-2014 09:32 PM

yes he was!!!!!! Coconut Skins and also Animals Were Gone

I think during release week x 9

glo32 09-21-2014 10:13 PM

He also went on Jools in the O era. For The Blower's Daughter I think... 2001 or 2002...

eva_arg 09-22-2014 01:48 AM

As a matter of fact, he will be on episode 3 (Sep 30) http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04knfqf

Funny, because when the news came up about the new album, one of the first things that came to my mind was this show :)

carrroline 09-22-2014 05:58 AM

:hello2: Yay!

Best-selling Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice returns solo after eight years away. He debuts songs from his much-anticipated third album My Favourite Faded Fantasy.

borneoman 09-22-2014 06:12 AM

he debuts "songs" wow, in plural, so more than one!!!

so is this recorded live as it happens on Sept 30??? or is it recorded earlier?????

would love to go as audience but I see the bbc site says itīs fully booked and they gave away the tix weeks ago. Anyway if anyone has an spare or want a +1, let me know ;)

borneoman 09-22-2014 06:45 AM

these are the YTs of the 2 songs he did last time around when 9 was released.

Coconut Skins

Animals Were Gone

and this is The Blowerīs Daughter from when he performed during the O era

borneoman 09-22-2014 06:52 AM

I think we'll definitely hear Trusty and True.

As for tickets, only the first round for the show have been allocated (whatever that means) so there might be hope. I signed up to the mailing list just in case!

borneoman 09-22-2014 10:15 AM

for what I understand, you had to apply in Aug for tix and then they gave them randomly so you donīt know what show you get

Wheels 09-22-2014 10:44 AM

Oooh exciting! :-D

eva_arg 09-22-2014 10:53 AM

I'm guessing he wil play MFFF and the new single (I Don't Want to Change You), which will premier on Radio 1 today, remember? Zane Lowe show, according to some news reports from a couple of weeks ago

They usually air it live on Tuesday and then there's an extended broadcast on Friday, so we might get an interview and or 3rd song as well.

borneoman 09-22-2014 10:59 AM

might premiere on Wed the 24th according to Zane Lowīs website

24/09/2014
Zane rewinds Ben Howard in session and there is a Hottest Record from Damien Rice.

borneoman 09-22-2014 11:22 AM

in the end, it might be the 24th, see above

The show usually broadcasts on Palladia a few weeks later here in the US, so hopefully, I'll be able to DVR it in mid October!

mario_d 09-22-2014 03:18 PM

It also airs on BBC America.

borneoman 09-23-2014 06:28 AM

for what I understand, thereīs a short version of the program on Tuesdays at 22:00 UK time (so 23:00 in Europe), and then a long version of the show runs on Fridays at 23:00 UK time... in the short version artists usually perform one song each, and then they add 1/2 songs for the long version of the show!! I see Alt J did 3 songs last week but most artists do 2 songs

verenita 09-23-2014 11:19 AM

iīm not particularly thrill about him perfoming on tv... i donīt know why, but that has never given me a feeling of excitement... except in case thereīd be also an interview.

anyway... yay! i suppose :p

Wheels 09-23-2014 12:13 PM

Jools likes to interview the guests a bit, but that hasn't happened when Damien was on before... maybe the new album means a new interview policy? :) Maybe not.

On Palladia channel, we get a 1 hour long episode. The artist who performs first does three songs and the remaining acts do two. I've never seen the shortened version of the show here.

The Alt J episode is scheduled to air here on Oct. 2

This is perfectly correct.

Tuesdays show gives a taster, but Fridays is longer, and has more songs by most acts.
Looking at the lineup for next week, which is currently listed as these 4 acts:
Damien Rice, Kamie T., ALi Campbell,Gorgon City

They usually have one "Headline" act, who usually would do 3 tracks on the longer Friday show, and 2 on Tuesdays show.
Damien would look to me, like the "Headline" act, so I'd expect two tracks on Tuesdays show, and a third on fridays show.

I also notice there are currently only 4 acts listed for next week, normally, they have 5, so maybe we might get more from Damien, or else, maybe another act will be added.

I'd say its less likely he will be interviewed, Jools usually interviews the older acts, so it's more likely to be Ali Campbell(UB40) interviewed.

In any event, it will be great to see him on this show.

Been applying for tickets for Jools for years...better chance of winning the lottery I think.

borneoman 09-26-2014 06:37 AM

did anyone figure out if we can watch this live on the web??? or is only for UK people??

and what song(s) do we reckon he might play? Last time he did Coconuts + Animals Were Gone, two non-singles, wonder if he could do the same now and maybe play Bastard? but I was wondering, can the word Bastard be used on BBC?? :D

carrroline 09-26-2014 04:45 PM

I can't imagine that 'bastard' wouldn't be allowed on bbc, i've heard far worse.

I don't think you can watch it live online. They make the episode available later on the web, but it's uk only (so might need a proxy or something) They do upload some of the performances on youtube the next day

Are you sure? I got to see it online!!

borneoman 09-30-2014 07:46 AM

live as it happens is UK-only, you need a proxy to watch

so what do we reckon heīs gonna play? Iīm really not sure, would love to hear MFFF in non-falsetto but maybe the song is too long? Heīll probably do Change You then? I wouldīt mind Bastard either...
