People Festival 2018 review
Just back from the 2nd edition of the People festival in Berlin, like the 1st one, I enjoyed very much, the quality of the performances compensated for the stress and the queuing and overall it was again a great experience.
Again we were pretty lucky cos we managed to see Damo both days at the big room + a gig outside in the forest, so we cannot complain, plus we saw Lisa, Bon Iver, Feist etc all multiple times.

First day Damo played in the "circle of folk" together with Justin from Bon iver, the guy from Kings of Convinience and a friend of Justin. Was something spectacular and Dam eat them all up alive and his performance was by far the most cheered up and applauded. He did Trusty & True with cantus domus.

2nd day he did Trusty & True again plus Astronaut, again with cantus domus and with Mariam too. Really loved Astronaut. Everybody was astonished.

Then he did a show outside in the forest stage:

Thanks a lot Borneoman,
for the review and the videos !

I loved the moment when Adam Cohen explain the song with the voice of his father and everything was so emotional...
and some goosebumps...

borneoman 08-21-2018 10:12 AM

yes, that a highlight for sure
it was something like "listen to the hummingbird, don't listen to me, listen to the butterfly, don't listen to me"

Claude 08-21-2018 12:23 PM

Yes exactly,
you've got such a good memory !

At the moment i didn't find it on Youtube...

Claude 08-22-2018 12:34 AM

Here's a link with some pictures and short videos from instagram, to give you the taste of this festival:

By Philip Moss:

Across In Saal One,
an emotional Adam Cohen played a track
that he’d been working on with Damien Rice using the last ever recording of his late father being interviewed –
while Rice, Erlend Øye, Sam Amidon and Justin Vernon, plus a choir – added live backing vocals and harmonies.
A performance that still sends the hairs a shootin’ just thinking about it.

Yes it was really interesting !
But i can't find a video to share it...

It takes time....
We have to be patient, like most of the time !

Claude 09-11-2018 12:38 AM

Here are two new links for videos:

- the first one is "Sam Amidon" with the Folk Circle:

- the second one is "Zach Condon" (from Beirut) and Friends:

borneoman 09-11-2018 04:03 PM

Yes exactly,
i can't wait...

borneoman 09-12-2018 08:18 AM

or at least Damien's, which was the performance that got everybody on their feet and clapping, clearly the highlight of the folk circle
this Sam was ok but the weakest out of the 4, bon iver was a bit disappointing but I think it was due to song choice (I sound like an Xfactor judge) :D

Claude 09-12-2018 03:07 PM

Ha ha !
Yes an Xfactor judge...

Here's another video with Mariam, LIIMA and Friends:

filmed in a pretty strange way but cool

I really like Vincent Moon‘s unusual approach to filming live events like that. It‘s very unintrusive and intimate, which is exactly what the event asked for. It was meant to be experienced there and then in the first place, so they were carefully trying to avoid disrupting the atmosphere with cameras in people‘s faces. I was lucky to enough to experience another set with Damien in Saal 1, but this one also gives me chills and fond memories of a similarly intense performance.

Another Vincent Moon's video,
Feist - Sound Wall

Claude 10-27-2018 12:16 PM

I was surprised to found very easily the "Big Red Machine" album !
Here in France in a Fnac (store).

Claude 01-12-2019 10:44 AM

Another beautiful moment of this festival for me,
Gyda with other "people" and Shazad Ismaily.

borneoman 03-21-2019 11:02 AM

looks like they're doing something similar in May but in New York this time
Damo is not on the list though, which includes Bon Iver, Dressler etc

Claude 03-21-2019 05:20 PM

Thanks for the news, Borneoman !
Wait and see for other names on the list...

Claude 05-04-2019 11:32 AM

PEOPLE - The Film - Saturday 25th July
Priscilla Telmon and Mathieu ‘Vincent Moon’ Saura come to town and bring a bag full of films,
the most prominent: PEOPLE, a 80min musical documentary made during the creation of the PEOPLE FESTIVAL 2018.
Moon journeyed through the weeklong residency with his camera in hand,
and unlimited access to the making off of this artist collaboration -
from Leslie Feist to Damien Rice,
from Efterklang to Shara Nova, from the Dessners (The National) to Justin Vernon (Bon Iver),
from Erlend Øye (Kings of Convenience) to Zach Condon (Beirut), from Woodkid to Henning May (Annenmaykantereit),
a behind the scenes document of a unique kind.

The film will be screened on Saturday evening for the first time.
We will invite all Berlin based festival participants, volunteer and artists in town.
We will surround the film with talks, special musical guests and remember what we have discovered,
to possibly connect again to that unicorn spirit of this moment in time, to help us move the times ahead.

It was last week,
thanks a lot to the Michelberger Team !
I decided "last minute" to go there to watch the Screening.
So i had to drive 9 hours...
But it worth it.

Thank you to Vincent Moon, with his personnal way of filming.
Thanks to Nadine and Tom from Michelberger hotel.
and a big thanks to Inga who could find a last minute ticket for me for the Screening !

eva_arg 08-03-2020 12:03 PM

so cool you got to see it

what can you tell us about it?

Yes Eva, it was really cool !

It's not easy to report about it...
Only 80min.
A lot of moments, short extracts of behind the scene.
Part of the process of creation.
I think it's easier when you were there, at the Festival...
Of course we had some live performance on stage,
but in most of videos, People were working together,
creating, playing with a lot of artists.
Some moments were a bit disturbing for me,
and other moments very moving !

Sorry i'm not very good by reporting.
