Going to the Glasgow one - will be my first Lisa gig in my hometown, and I love the Ňran Mór :) anyone else get tickets for anywhere? :)

borneoman 07-01-2016 11:28 AM

it's a pity there are so few dates in mainland Europe and she's skipped Scandinavia :( guess to compensate for the recent super Damo Scandinavian love :)

thought about Milano but the venue is a sorta big disco for like 2,000 people so a no no no

malakitt 07-03-2016 12:41 PM

I have told my Dutch friends about Lisa's gig at the Crossing Border festival in Den Haag!

borneoman 07-04-2016 07:45 AM

anyone else going to some of the EU shows?

malakitt 09-16-2016 10:27 PM

Today the Danish singer/songwriter Agnes Obel announced that Lisa will be her support act on select concerts in Europe, from November 6th until November 24th. Agnes posted a news entry about it here: http://www.agnesobel.com and Lisa added the concert dates that she will play to her schedule, here's the link: http://lisahannigan.ie/tour.html

Thanks!

I hope there'll be a bit more light than last time in Kildare. I'll try my best! (I'll have them on my blog tomorrow) ;)

Stunning gig tonight!
The opening act Heather Woods Broderick was wonderful too.

set list:

Little Bird
Ora
Pistachio
Prayer for the dying
Fall
Snow
Flowers
Tender
Passenger
Funeral suit
We the drowned
Teeth
Lille
Undertow
Knots
A Sail
--
Anahorish
Barton
Lo

There was some nice merch that I didn't buy because I had to run for my train: totes and a beautiful notebook

She mentioned that she worked on a new video a couple of weeks ago (for undertow).
She explained that she had to sing backwards for the recording and sang us a a couple of lines in reverse :)

She also mentioned that they would be back soon, so more touring in 2017, i guess!

My pics are up here

Hope you enjoy. I'm super happy with the results!
I'll attach a couple of them as well...

And you should be : those pictures are super nice Caroline :hello2: !

mattministrator 10-29-2016 07:07 AM

Beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing them with us, carrroline! How do you get them so super-sharp in such conditions? I'm guessing no flash used. High ISO? Underexposing and then brightening them up? Magical equipment? :-)

And funny detail about Lisa singing backwards. So she actually also sang the melody in reverse? I would have thought that people usually only try to move their mouth or say the words backwards for such videos, not actually sing them out loud. Curious to see the final video!

carrroline 10-29-2016 09:18 AM

Thanks guys!

Loads of practice Matt... and knowing your camera and different light conditions, never use automatic camera settings, use a decent camera and a great lens, a little post production (and hope for some nice stage lights)

About the backwards singing: she said they needed to match the audio tracks to her lip movements and that's why she had to actually sing it :)

mattministrator 10-29-2016 07:33 PM

Only just now discovered your blog. Breathtaking pictures. Great eye and technique!

(At the risk of taking this off-topic: Is there a a rule of thumb for the settings you use, like a minimum shutter speed of 1/xxx or underexposing by default? Seeing the metadata of some shots would probably be quite insightful. I expect you're shooting RAW and get the colours right in post-processing?)

carrroline 10-29-2016 08:06 PM

I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment (another gig), but I'll send you a pm later :)
But in fairness, there's no magic recipe :)

mattministrator 10-29-2016 08:55 PM

Enjoy! And no pressure on educating me. :-) I was merely blown away by the quality of your pictures and got curious.

carrroline 10-30-2016 09:38 AM

You're too kind...
This one was a bit easier than other gigs, 'cause she brought good lights and I didn't have to go too high on my iso.

Check your inbox! :)

it really amazes me when people talk so naturally about things that are completly unknown by me :p

thanks for the review and the photos, caro. they are amazing. glad you enjoyed the gig :)

Claude 10-31-2016 02:03 PM

Great job Caro !

Thanks for the review, the setlist and the PICTURES !

haha, no I'm sorry Claude. I thought about it, but decided not to in the end. I'll be fairly busy in November.

Next up: Joseph Arthur/Lou Rhodes/Ryley Walker/Rufus Wainwright/Bear's Den/Glen Hansard/The Veils (but not all of them have been confirmed yet, so it could still change)

Yes ok, i understand.
Very busy indeed !

May be you will meet some Eskimos (or just one ) at Rufus Wainwright !

Cheers

carrroline 11-02-2016 07:44 PM

Ah yes, I know the Eskimo you're talking about :)
I think I might run into her indeed! Always glad to meet fellow Eskimos! I just hope she won't get too annoyed by my clicks ;)

Unorganized & random bits
from yesterday's magic gig
on this designer's barge on Paris river :

Unorganized & random bits : I mean it :smiley9: !

- Saw a familiar face from afar before the Gig started. Wasn't sure so I adjusted my glasses : Ha ha it was Stephan, at the front row. We chatted a little and he spotted an empty seat on the balconny for me to rest my back... Ha ha thanks man :smiley31: !

- I "discovered" Pistachio, a song that for some reasons I hadn't really noticed in the past. It's like suddenly the music of it, the rhythm, the singing, it all made sense. Or is it they spiced it up for the live version, jazzed it up ? Or maybe it's just me and I was oblivious to that song all this time. Not that I didn't like it to begin with, just it wasn't up there with many others. Well now it will be !
OH DEAR : I certainly hope someone recorded it and is going to post it on YouTube !
Edit, oh here :love10: :

- "What'll I do" LIVE !!! :smiley12: :love2: :smiley36:
Joy ! Happiness ! Smiles ! And everything in between...
Oh and bouncing on my seat too. Oh dear :

Found this video this afternoon.
The guy who took it was kind of at the same spot as me on the balconny, except directly on the other side.

- I so hope there's going to be a live album soon (maybe not December, though would be the season :D ! I'd settle for... 2017 ? :smiley9:). And hopefully it will be a double.
I so hope there's going to be a live album soon. And hopefully it will be a double.
I so hope there's going to be a live album soon. And hopefully it will be a double.
I so hope there's going to be a live album soon. And... Well while we're at it : Why not triple :o !!!

- Heather W. Broderick is a very talented lady ! One of her nice tune has her alternate, in rapid successions, between a cymbal, her guitar and some electronic device. All this while singing, this was impressive.

- The barge...
Well, as you can see from the pictures : It really is a nice and special place to see Lisa and her band.
I'm imagining that, even though they probably had the choice between different venues, someone must have strongly expressed a big preference for that particular place ;) !

- "Passenger"
Drat ! Same curse as in Newbridge at the Riverbanks Art Center : Audience excessive shyness. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I thought it was so obvious she wanted us to sing along : Well I mean, it was so obvious to me because for that song she came with her mandoline alone on stage.

It's strange how this song can be such a hit or miss for the audience participation :
Newbridge = shyness... :o
Kildare = :hello2: :smiley32: :hello2: foot-stomping-hand-clapping-singing-along-fiesta :smiley32: :hello2: :smiley32:
Paris = back to shyness... :o
I hope she wasn't too disapointed.
Then again the ambiance and hand clapping for "What'll I do", for "Lo", for "Knots" hopefully made up for it.

- At Swim : Almost all of it. Except "Barton", unless I'm mistaken or had some swoon induced lapse absence. :smiley36:
Barton you're not forgotten, I'll listen to you more for the next few days !

- The band members : they're really good. They had some solos or stronger moments of accompaniments here and there. The double-bass dude had one mad one in the treeble, for example.
(dude had me not look at Lisa for a moment, but shhhhhh, not a word...) ;)

- At the end I ended up getting stuck on the balconny a little because I took so much time sorting my stuff before getting out (several layers of clothing : was cold outside, then a bit hot inside shortly after Lisa's set started ha ha !).
Long story short, after I finally found my way out of the balconny I ended up blocked kind of behind the merchandizing table along with a very friendly Greek couple while Lisa was signing autographs to hundreds of people : the queue was unending.
I chatted with them a little, then also with a bodyguard from the barge who was not too far from Lisa the whole time, very friendly, very calm, always keeping an eye : reassuring.
Then also there was Una who came sit not too far from me on the merchandize stash-trunk. I hadn't noticed back then in june, but she sure has some beautiful fierce eyes !

- Apparently I'm still as shy as ever when it comes to talk to either Lisa or Una. :o
Those two mythical creatures sure have presence, I suspect them to have, in fact, some otherwordly powers !

- OH WAIT !!! You know what ? (you'll never believe this...)
I made it back home today without loosing anything ! :smiley36:
(I think...)

Claude 11-08-2016 03:46 PM

Thank you for the story, pictures and the review !
