St Michelle,Did you go? Damien's Gear
Did anyone else make it to See Damien Tonight? (or perhaps record any of it?)
I think the songs were: Sand Women like a man Volcano Blowers Daughter Accidental Babies (which was beautiful) Delicate Cannonball Rootless Tree I Remember The Professor I think that's all of em. I also got an upclose view of Damien's Pedal board for those interested...The security guard was nice enough to let me look at it while they were packing up. He's got two Rat Pedals, one for guitar and one for vocals. The 2nd vocal mic is an SM57 with some weird Tarp wrapped around and a filter at the top. Totally self-made. He's also got a couple of Boss LS-2 Line Selectors and a Sans Amp DI box...I'm guessing this is also for the vocals. Plus some weird silver pedal that he always kept on...but I didn't recoganize it. Does anyone know what it is? Over all a great show, but Damien was his silent self....like he was last time he was in Seattle. It was hot outside and the sun was blaring in his eyes. The first words out of his mouth were. "Ya it's great for you, you ****ers are in the shade" I felt bad for him, but he carried it out like a champ... Only Damien could yell "**** you! **** you!" in the midst of a bunch of families gathering to have a good time. Cheers Darling! |
Muhahah i bet you're going to be jelious. I was at St Michelle winery also, during fiona apple's set i went walking around in search of damien. I first saw Shane and Earl (i think thats his name) and i talked to them for like 20 mins. Shane was telling me about a lot of damien solo shows in east canada (so if you live there, u should go).
The big question was when will their cd be finished??? Shane said they were done recording except maybe two songs? That they will be back next year! (we've been hearing this alot though i guess). He told me that the whole band was drunk through the saratoga show which was funny. Shane and Damien read ESKIMOFRIENDS forum!!... i asked them personally. Then we wandered and ran into Damien! He was with his girlfriend or something, she was short and blonde. I talked to damien a bit about the set and if he reads the forums. He said that he likes smaller intimate sets and if its a large venue he would like the speakers to envelope the audience instead of just shoot foward. He signed my ticket stub and drew me a guitar pic! Anyway made my day. |
Lucky, lucky you Brandon. What a great concert story. I've heard so many stories about people meeting Damien, I don't understand how everyone has this lucky.
Yeah, I wish the venues were smaller on this tour. He's such an intimate setting type of guy, before the tour was announced I had the perfect setting for him set up in my mind. But he's not coming to Detroit :( Anyways, sounds like another great show |
man, everyone seems to be meeting damien. i'm too shy to go around and look for him and just walk up to someone random and say hey... especially if they are famous and oh so talented!! he will be in my town on the 12th! ahh i can't wait!!!! my dream is to get him to smoke a fatty with me...

Heres my tip to spotting him, just during the break, like when fiona is on (give him like atleast 15 mins to settle down first) then take a walk around im sure you'll run into him. If not him, you'll see shane becuase he's a lot less noticeable. When i saw him he was just watching the show and smoking a cig.
Anyway i didnt get to see Viv :( Oh by the way, Fiona is a crazy woman! She said during the concert "it is weird playing during the day, last time i did that i cried through half of the show". Through some of the songs she would go and hide behind the piano heh. |

sigh. if wishing made it so. |
No after the show he wasnt chilling in the crowd, but i have heard he does from other people. During my show (since it was at a winery) he was walking around with him and his gf around the winery campus. It is beautiful, they have a 4 teir fountain with huge trout in it, and thats where i ran into him. I guess it all depends at the venue. Just pretend you are damien and like 30 mins after your performance where would u go at that venue? For me it obviously was to get a tour around the winery.

What did Shane say about the Canada shows/East Coast shows?

At first i was thinking of the State Theatre in Detroit, but all the ones you said would be great too, especially the magic bag for a real intimate gig. I think orginially, Fiona was booked at pine knob (sorry, dte), but now she's booked at the State Theatre. interesting... |

^^^ maybe not, might not be that many tourists considering today was the first day ever in atlantic city that all the casinos were shut down (gambling, not resorts) because of strikes or something or other. so maybe you'll be able to find him. where's the optimism man? and anyone know if Lisa will be at the Canadian dates??

I didn't get to meet him, but I was in the center of the second row at the Ste. Michelle winery concert. He was wonderful. I wish to hell that I got the chance to meet him! But I didn't want to leave during Fiona's, because I love her too.
I am jealous of everybody who has gotten to meet him :]. |
Brandon, you have given me hope! I am seeing him tomorrow in Dallas and I hope to run into him as you did. :-)
