borneoman 03-25-2011 05:49 PM

I'd say solo, judging from the festivals he's done in the past 3 years... but still no info at all at the website :)

Strange the way the write about him..

"plus supports with McAlmont and Butler, Counting Crows and Kathryn Williams, have all helped established Damien as a must see live act"

He's done a lot more than that.. Must be a copy and paste job from somewhere.

glo32 03-26-2011 10:08 PM

it looks like a bio from 2003... it doesn't really mention any release after O...
but i'd say it's 100% a copy/paste job of an old biography, like the one on irishmusiccentral - http://www.irishmusiccentral.com/dam...biography.html

borneoman 04-19-2011 06:41 AM

Glo, he also did The Professor, there's a Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/user/darkener.../5/lQUIWHahKDk

the same user also has Delicate, Volcano, Tbw, and Cannonball

now I wonder if the 'new song' was The Professor :(

glo32 04-19-2011 08:10 AM

no no, the new one has to be the "wild and free" song, because he introduced it by saying it's about looking in the mirror etc... (it sounds like the same story he told at the glen/liam gig)

borneoman 04-19-2011 10:10 AM

yep the youtube user was telling me that he didn't record the new song :(

Spamlet 04-19-2011 02:33 PM

Disappointed to read the set list at first because he seems to always play the same handful of songs lately and was worried he might be starting to phone it in. Then I watched the videos. What a consummate performer. No matter how many times you've seen him that intense stage presence, the mix of utter comfort and passion, is still mesmerizing and his voice only gets better with age.

Although it's unfortunate that he's playing to a crowd that includes an extremely rude and loud drunk Dubliner or two and appears to have a lot of kids in it who don't have a clue and are more concerned with their cameras (at least in the front row) he clearly won them over by the end. I guess we forget that there's now a whole generation who may not have even been around for O but these songs are just growing even more to sound like timeless classics.

In a related note, I like Magic Numbers but apart from their guitarist that performance of Hallelujah would have been much better served solo. As much as the true veteran and professional he is comes across it's just as strong in degree as a contrast for how little those other people next to him (Dry the River?) are registering. It's just embarrassing how slack they seem. Do they not rehearse? It's like they wandered aimlessly on stage out of the crowd and have barely even heard the song.

The only acoustic I can make out onstage during the Dylan is Damo's and if that's the case then his accompaniment is absolutely stellar. Loved the tasteful and thoughtful interplay with the electric, especially on that breakdown. I'd love to hear him sing it sometime.

Had never heard of Laura Marling so I looked her up and recommend people check this intriguing songwriter out. Very reminiscent of folk legends like Joni & Joan but with strong bluesy and country elements and even some Ani & Vega edge thrown in. lovely voice, deft player and it'd be really interesting to hear what she'd be like playing with Damo.

borneoman 04-19-2011 02:46 PM

^oh Laura Marling is amazing. She's very well known around here, in particular in the UK. She even won the Brit Award this year for best UK Female singer, which shocked many!!! I loved her debut album (Alas I Cannot Swim), full of fresh, smart little songs... I personally found her 2nd album (I Speak Because I Can) very disappointing... We should have album 3, initially pencilled for last year, very very soon :)
