Damien doing an IAMA on Reddit Monday, November 24, 12pm – 1pm EST

This is where you can ask him anything and he may respond.

I have started a thread in the Damien Rice sub to compile a list of questions.

here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/DamienRice/c..._12pm_1pm_est/

and here's a link to where the Q&A will be held:

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/

Make sure to register an account early and build some karma so you can respond to him if he answers without having to wait 10 minutes between replies.

Let's come up with a bunch of questions and then pick 3-5 and submit those as the official questions from EskimoFriends/The DR subreddit.

and then on the day upvote that post for visibility.

borneoman 11-08-2014 07:40 AM

we could ask about What If I´m Wrong, if there is still a chance for it being released somehow/somewhere, since the soundtrack never saw the light

(PS, lol at the threat title, never heard about IAMA or Reddit before) :D

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 07:48 AM

Threat? Oh no. That was not my intention.

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 07:49 AM

That'd be a good one. I'm hoping he plays it live in chicago.

borneoman 11-08-2014 07:51 AM

he remembers What If I´m Wrong now... + it´s an amazing song so it´s really a travesty that he recorded it but never published it and got lost...

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 07:55 AM

I didn't realize the recording was lost. Surely there's a copy somewhere.

glo32 11-08-2014 07:56 AM

wait, how does it work? you submit your questions live and he replies? are they filtered or what?

That was one of the highlights of the 3 NYC shows, and probably one of his very best songs. Hard to believe he never recorded it!

verenita 11-08-2014 09:17 AM

i don´t understand anything about reddit (btw, i think marti meatn thread and not threat ;)), but i´m willing to learn if it helps.

about questions... i´ll think about it (or prioritize them, i´d say, as i have a lot already :p).

how did you manage for this to happen?

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 10:26 AM

Yeah so basically you ask a question (or 10) and he will be replying questions live. Other users upvote the best questions or comments to the top so those usually get answered because they are the most visible. It's good to have your question ready and submit it as the thread goes up.

Moves-My-World 11-08-2014 12:18 PM

They're mainly held for promotion reasons and as the album is already out, it could coincide with the new tour announcement. *wishful thinking*

carrroline 11-08-2014 12:33 PM

Maybe we should ask him what happened to mustard seeds...

borneoman 11-08-2014 12:35 PM

^good one!

conanemily 11-08-2014 01:17 PM

This is nice! I did once before, with Spike Jonze online. And he replied me! also he asked something like "please recommend best sandwich places in New York" :)

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 01:26 PM

Some random questions I just came up with off the top of my head:

Was Forgotten Dears written on the 10 days to Barcelona trip?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4ueUz-VKyU
http://youtu.be/146_FO7dqe8?t=30s
If so, what is the name of the song? Forgotten Deers or Dears or Tears?
What happened to that concept album? Why was it scrapped? Do you still own the Mini?

Are you still in touch with any of the boys from Bell X1? Were you upset when they recorded Volcano and put it out before you considering you wrote the song? Is there a chance of a Juniper reunion gig in the future?

You have said that you are itching to get back in the studio and record another album, will you be writing new songs for that or will you be using B-Sides that didn't make the cut on MFFF?
I think the new album is true masterpiece. Will you be working with Rick Rubin again on the next one? Have you considered collaboration with Sigur Ros?

What is your favourite song to listen to on the new album? To play?
What about of your entire catalogue?
What is your favourite of Lisa's solo work? Would you ever cover one of her songs? I would love to hear you sing Little Bird.

Is Me, My Yoke, and I about doing ecstasy? Or is that about sperm too?

Do you ever let Bono play his old guitar that you bought for $500,000?

Who are you listening to these days?

Is the new album a message or a plea to Lisa? Considering the things you've said about the current status of your relationship and having your private lives publicly exposed, was this a way for you to tell her how you feel about her without having to actually tell her and disrupting the status quo, given the seemingly precarious nature of your current relationship?

You and Glen Hansard have helped pave the way for some great music coming out of Ireland right now (Lisa, James Vincent McMorrow, Kodaline, Hozier, Ed Sheeran), do you feel any sense of responsibility or pride as a new generation is ushered in? Having had the door opened for you guys by the likes of Van, Bono, and even David Gray (I know he isn't Irish) and then becoming friends and colleagues with them, is there anything you've learned from them about becoming a leader, mentor, and reagent in the Irish music scene?

Do you ever browse the forums at Eskimofriends.com and see what your biggest fans say about you and your music? Are you a member? If so, what's your username?

What is your favorite bottle of wine?

Will you and Glen ever tour together again?

Sleep Don't Weep and Long Long Way seem to be reworkings of Cold Water, is there a reason for this?
Was Sleep Don't weep written before Cold Water? Is there any significance to ending albums with that melody?

Nice! So where's the best sandwich in NYC?

I recommended a few in the village:hello2:

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 02:23 PM

I'm extremely jealous of all you New Yorkers. Chicago is great and has a lot of charm, but New York is on its own level.

borneoman 11-08-2014 02:35 PM

but is it like this Q&A with a screen in which 47683478934 people send questions at the same time and the screen moves up so fast you don´t see a thing??

ps you can´t skip the deers question :D like if Damien would know what you´re talking about :D

Here's an example of one. It doesn't scroll up but reloading your screen helps to keep you updated. You can also click on Damo's username to see all his responses and then either track it back to the question by clicking context or you can reply directly to him.

Shillelagh 11-08-2014 03:24 PM

That was a bad example because Bill just takes questions and repeats them in his own post. This Harrison Ford one is more conventional.

Fotgotton deers/tears was performed live in 2007 before barcelona trip, so i believe that answers that unless i'm missing something?

Gotcha. I didn't realize. That song on the boat sounds an awful lot like it though.

i like this one... i, personally, would like to ask him:

what is the box he doesn´t fit in despite he tried, if there´s one...

why did he choose the falsetto for MFFF on the studio version? what is a feeling, just trying something new as the "opening act" for the record, a suggestion he just took... why?

on a personal note, though i´m not sure about going in that direction... because he sings quite repeatedly "not enough", has he ever been afraid of that feeling lasting forever?
i have the feeling myself quite often and the mere though just leaves me breathless...

the last but not least... considering he might start a big tour next year, is there any chance he consideres to include latin american countries again?

whoever is willing to correct my grammar, spelling, etc., feel free.

Shillelagh 11-09-2014 02:48 PM

I think personal questions are fair game. It is called "Ask Me Anything."

Great questions!!

verenita 11-09-2014 02:52 PM

oh no no, i´m not judging... i´m just not into them... that much ;)

Tips from the admins running the AMA:

[–]from coniform[M] via /r/IAmA/ sent 13 hours ago
Hi! Very nice of you to stop by and say hello!
Reddit's best behaviour is a pretty good rule of thumb. An AMA is like a face-to-face conversation with someone you just met for the first time, so interact accordingly.
Direct responses to his AMA needs to be questions. Those posts must be punctuated with a question mark. Posts anywhere else can be chitchat/banter.
Let us know if you have other questions!

Then I asked:

Any room for tougher questions? I know he is brutally honest and brutally introspective and we don't want to offend but since he's been talking about some of the personal aspects of his relationships and growth some wanted to ask some more personal questions that wouldn't generally fly in polite conversation.
Thanks for your response.

Their response:

Well, this is what we tell all our AMA guests -- the forum is called "ask me anything", so they should be prepared for literally any question from any redditor. At the same time, they are also free to answer questions as they see fit.
There's a unique rhythm to each AMA. Some guests open up quickly, others take more time. It's hard to guess in advance what will happen since the internet is such a fluid place.
