ssst... new album

okay.. I'm not supposed to make this public.. But the record store I work in has a release date for a new Damien Rice album on the 29th of september...
I called the distributor and I was not supposed to talk about this, because the record company wants it to be a big surprise... BUT I'M SO EXCITED!

Cali 08-23-2006 08:31 PM

if this is true, 11/29 will be a day i'll always remember, roger waters in chicago and a new damien album. i hope it is true

Timeé 08-23-2006 08:31 PM

hmmmm you sorta ruined the surprise then???

im not excited till its in my head

simog 08-23-2006 09:19 PM

I need to go to the toilet - TOO EXCITED!!!!!!

29th September!!

(Sadly a more mixed day for me though: my brother's birthday, but also the anniversary of my Granny's death)

Bumpman 08-23-2006 09:23 PM

That sounds about right, In Ireland everything comes out on a friday instead of a monday. The 29th seems plausable.

Mr Benn. 08-23-2006 10:01 PM

Wow! I certainly wont tell everyone i know!

I hope that it really does! Maybe the december-ish estimate was an american thing or something. i suppose september.... december... hell they sound similar

StatQuo 08-23-2006 10:03 PM

Oh my, ray Lamontagne on the 29th of August & Damien a month later. i'm so excited!

carvinC980t_kid 08-23-2006 10:08 PM

i'd love to put faith in this, but i won't belive it till it is out!

but i sure hope it is true!

Can't wait for Ray La either!

Putin 08-23-2006 10:47 PM

I'm guessing that if the album was on order then your record store would know what the album is called. Can you tell us the name of the album - it would make your story much more believable.

cille 08-23-2006 11:05 PM

The ^ president has a point ;)

borneoman 08-23-2006 11:09 PM

I think if it's true, it should be officially announced AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Promo singles or promos for the album are sent to stations way ahead of the album in all cases, sometimes even 2-3 months before the release...

Yetzirah 08-23-2006 11:33 PM

i agree with a lot of those statements above me. and i just believe rumours when 1) it will be anounced on his hp and 2) when i'm holding it in my hands. before you can tell me anything and i will shake my head.

cille 08-23-2006 11:42 PM

i will believe it when A) He is holding my hand

Ashley 08-23-2006 11:47 PM

I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said, but I must voice something about such big news. The end of september seems soooo soon, that I would think we would hear news on this very quickly, especially in the damien community. Certainly a lot sooner than Decemberish, eh?

anywho, if it is true, then I am very excited!! If not, then I'll just continue to wait

If this September date is correct, I sure as hell hope your statment is wrong!

Closing_Doors 08-24-2006 12:37 AM

Maybe December-ish referred to the US release.

Bumpman 08-24-2006 12:45 AM

It's logical enough alright. I'd honestly doubt it would come out anywhere in the world at the same time as it comes out in Ireland. Not because the band would want it that way or anything, but because the record labels are different for the different territories. The distribution for the UK and the US is handled by 14th floor and Vector respectively, and there's the licencing issues and contracts to iron out first. Also preparing an Irish release would only take the production of maybe 10,000 copies, whereas an american release might require a million copies.

and that statement, imo, is why he is usually touring in the US more then Ireland. just a thought though.. i could be wrong.

Five Leaves Left 08-24-2006 04:46 AM

this better be true, because i was gonna pre order the new frames album, to get it shipped on the 22nd, now i'm going to wait to order so i can get them both on one shipping cost. if its not tru i will be VERY angry!

Five Leaves Left 08-24-2006 04:48 AM

ing5384 doesnt live in ireland either.

nice play on words there

cd's are usually released here on tuesdays, so the 29th wouldn't fit too well...

DaveG 08-24-2006 09:19 AM

actually cds are released on a friday in Ireland (think sean may have said this) because of the way the chart is set up....so we get albums a few days before the uk market

Gatsby 08-24-2006 09:36 PM

i would have thought it would leak alot easier and sooner

im gonna be pesimistic and sit on the fence here

iamrandom 08-25-2006 04:08 AM

Call me pessimistic, but I don't buy it for a few reasons: a) i'm sure more than one person would be able to verify it somehow. (I work at one of those major electronic stores in the US--next time I work I'll try to see if anything is on the list for upcoming releases)

Of course, ing5384, you're taking a bit of a risk. If September 29th comes and goes without a new album, you'll be tarred and feathered...

(and the fact that that post is your first leads to some issues as well)

borneoman 08-25-2006 04:55 AM

I've asked some friends who work at record stores in the UK and no one knows a thing, although they have access to all releases til the end of the year.

IMO there wouldn't be enough time for promotion... usually records are promoted 2-3 months before the album release. Look at Robbie Williams, his new CD is out in October and the single was on all radios in early July!!!

GlttrGrrl 08-25-2006 07:43 AM

It is not true.

I just saw damien today and he is mastering the album right now. Release is rumored to be closer to February, but certainly definitely not in a month.

Wheels 08-25-2006 10:54 AM

If GlttrGrrl says she met him, she met him... So any other word from him GG?
