Following much talking up this of guy here I purchased his compact disc entitled Poses today.
I am about to insert it into my cd player. For all your sakes it had better be good. |

I'm currently listening to the title track (I know, wrong thread).
Its good |
Meh, its ok. I can't see this going into my "These days I am mostly listening to:" sigs.
Oh wait, I don't do those anymore. |

Seems like people have been bopping me on the head and yelling "RUFUS WAINWRIGHT!!" in my ears. So--he's good, eh? |
Hey--I just got my lazy bum over to his site and realised that I've heard some of his songs on college/independent radio stations. I've known some of his music for a long time, but never knew who it was by. From what I can hear on the site he's great! |
Ian, give it some time. He'll grow unto you. Brillant song writer. Extremely talented and very original. I listen to him off and on, but it's not somebody I'd want to listen to non-stop.
|
I still don't "get" him...

I forgot....did you get Want One or what have you heard of him? Have you checked out his http://www.rufuswainwright.com/media_videos.php? Would that help? |

I downloaded some songs from Want One but they don't really do anything for me. And Vibrate is just crap!
|
Haha! don't beat around the bush mojo! |
It's the lyrics, man... the horror.. the unspeakable horror! No wait... I don't like the song either! Anywhooo.. he does have a lot of good songs but they can't seem to touch me... |
So, Vibrate is perhaps lyrically weak. I don't judge an artist by one weak track or two. 'Want One' is Rufus' 'Kid A'.
Oh well, go ahead! Put it aside for a year, then. Still there's not a show on my back Holes or a friendly intervention I'm just a little bit heiress, a little bit Irish A little bit Tower of Pisa Whenever I see ya So please be kind if I'm a mess! Do you the music of his father Loudon WainwrightIII? It's a must too! |

Hmm.. I'll have a few more listens, but it's so theatrical. I'm afraid it's not gonna grow on me... |
Theatrical it is. he sure takes some getting used to. Well, much of it. He's also written more simple and very moving songs, like 'Dinner At Eight'.
Rufus' musical background (other than the folk music scene he grew up in) is opera and, since he lives in New York, also a smattering of Gershwin, Broadway etc. |
The only song I've heard is California. Nice tune.
|
Hmm.. I like his songs like Across The Universe... much simpler.
|
That's a Beatles cover

Well there you have it... he shouldn't write his own songs! |

How long did you spend digging for this thread cille, Hooray for rufus, he's quite a guy. What with his fantastic wonderfulness and all that. What's with digging for old threads cille? Are you going nuts?

I don't like your tone... :smiley17:

Lor that guy is brilliant in Brokeback Mountain OST and Antony and the Johnsons' I Am A Bird Now. Unfortunately, Wainwright's albums are unavailable in Malaysia.
|
aw, too bad - i say, if Malaysia can't come to ruf, LET RUF COME TO MALAYSIA!!
|
Lor I doubt he'd be able to, given his sexual ambiguity (or rather bisexuality haha). A retailer once imported some but I didn't know Rufus then; they've all been sold now. We also don't have Teddy Thompson :( the other outstanding act in Brokeback Mountain. Oh, and neither was that show screened here.
