He plays all chords using his thumb around the neck to fret the 6th string(low E) notes. Then use your index, middle, and ring fingers to fret the the parts of the chord on the G, D and A strings. The pinky is uses to change the chord on the G, B and C chords(though Damien doesn't always change it on the C), adding the 4th to the chord. Damien likes to use his thumb to play the 6th string on a lot of his songs.
