Who are you, babe?
Without regrets?
Without your mother?
And without that dress?
Without the lovers who told you lies.
Tell me: Who is behind those eyes?

Who are you, babe?
When you're all alone?
No part is blushing
And no one is home?
Nobody hears this alarm that you cry.
Who is behind those eyes?

Who are you, babe?
Without a plan?
Without past or a future?
Dreams or a man?
Who are you now?
Without mask or disguise?
Tell me: Who is behind those eyes?

Who causes pain?
Without design?
When the world is worth changing
But no one to love?
Who are the brave when there's no taking sides?
Who is behind those eyes?

Who are you, babe?
When you're not afraid?
Of living or dying?
Or being replaced?
Your heart is clear
And your head sees the lie.
Tell me: Who is behind those eyes?

Note that the last word in the fourth line of the third verse could also well be "amends", "lament" or even the probably less likely but perfectly fitting "amen". "A Man" though, seems to fit best given the way the character appears to be so defined by the importance of both other people's individual perceptions and the larger social expectations placed on her.
