i just came across this interview. nicolas pauls (producer of canciones de cuna back in 2010). this part refers to damien (on how much people got involved in the project):

"Damien Rice, for instance, asked me if he could meet the author of the lyrics for song he sings on the record." All lyrics were written as poems first and then given to musician who add the music and made a song.
