Damien performed Elephant, The Professor, Hallelujah (with Natalie Merchant), and The Auld Triangle with Paddy Casey and Glen Hansard at Glen's Haiti charity gig at Whelans tonight. He was great and sounded fantastic. I'll post some video and pictures tomorrow.

Hey guys, I am working on getting the videos uploaded, but my internet here is complete ****. Anyway, here are some pictures I took in the meantime:
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...0&l=8d004dafab Also, Natalie was there because she is doing a show at Whelans tonight. I also took a video of Glen, Natalie, and Damien doing Hallelujah, so I'll work on getting that uploaded. |

This sounds fantastic! I love that Natalie Merchant was there! She should do a duet with Damien officially for the duet album. Thanks for the info and pics! Looking forward to the video.

I'm loving the hoodie + corduroy blazer combo. Yeeah Damien. Oh, and the fact that Glen organized a concert for Haiti. What not only great musicians, but great human beings as well.

How strange is to see Damien playing Glen's Takamine instead of his Lowden.

It was great, everyone was just passing around Glen's guitar to one another. Although, after Damien broke Glen's guitar string during The Professor, he used Paddy Casey's guitar. Also, Damien tried to walk off the stage after playing one song, but I could see Mundy backstage shooing him back out there and giving him the signal to keep playing. Right before Damien went on, Glen looked at him offstage and gave the "Come on, would you do it?" motion, and when Damien agreed he said something like, "The night continues!" They wound up playing all in all like a good four hours. Damien was smiling the entire time that he was watching the gig, and he looked extremely happy.
I'm working on getting the videos uploaded, but I have to go over to my school and do it later, since the internet in my dorm is so slow. |

I found this posted on hotpress.com message board :Glen Hansard gig
€15 (all to haiti fund) to get into this in whelan's last night - anyone at it? i have to say a fab gig to witness and experience. mundy supported, then glen said that were some of his family and friends were there and might come and sing a song or two. after a few frames and solo tunes, he announced paddy casey who played a few, natalie merchant (beautiful voice), followed by paul brady, followed by damien rice, with a song or two in between from his cousin and uncle (including a great and dirty rendition of old king cole in a solid dublin accent). then they all sang together, and we all sang along for 'the auld triangle' and glen hansard finished off with a gorgeous tune with paul brady, (which i'd love to get actually - anyone there and know the name?) i especially loved how they all sat on stage, legs crossed drinking pints, watching each other sing like they were in a sitting room chilling out. super night. Beep I was at it as well...what a gig. Truely mind blowing. I am not the biggest fan of Glen Hansard and his work with The Frames/Swell Season but he is an unbelievable performer live. I was expecting a few suprises but nothing on that scale, Damo Rice and all. A cover of Hallejuah too, amazing. Mundy was out of his brain by the end, eyes gone and all, it was hilarious. Especially his random "GLEN HANSARD" howl into the mike right at the end, ha ha. Amazing gig, and one I will remember forever.

A setlist with Seven day mile + stars are underground + Revelate and rent day blues! This is a good sign, makes me happy.
It sounds like it was a veeery nice gig. Can't wait for some video : )

Not my upload, but a fine upload indeed. I'll be uploading tomorrow at some point. The Auld Triangle was one of the night's best moments.
