Thumbs down Borgata show

Haven't poked my face in here in ages (since the last tour) but I wanted to post about the show in AC last night. Damien and co were amazing of course but the large amount of stupidly drunk fans yelling during the most delicate parts of lisa's solo in cold water really pissed me off. Not sure how Lil' John impressions are supposed to show any respect to the gracious (though similarly drunken) performers who got cut off from telling a story mid-set.

Apparently, later, during Fiona's set, while Damo was on stage having some fun with her, some fantastic guy yells to the stage for them to "wrap it up!" Violent words ensued from the stage to the cowd and back up. Of course I was gone by then... beer was cheaper on the casino floor and I had had more then my fill of that night's crowd.

I know I paid $50 for my ticket but I still think that its the audience's responsibility to make the performer feel welcome. I'm sure I'm seeng this more and more.

i was there too, and yes, the audience was horrible. damo & co were (in a good way) in rare form. i've seen him many times and they were so "on" last night.
i think that's the tradeoff of having a gig in a casino tho. people are ****ers and half of them are rich bastards who don't even know who they're seeing. that casino had more rich assholes in it than i had ever seen. i saw some guy lose 6,000 dollars at blackjack and think nothing of it.

Yeah, I had to post about this on here. First of all, I'm no meat head, but I was the guy who yelled "Shut the **** Up!" louder then anybody at the "YEAH!" lil Jon kid. The kid was like 17, and doing his best to be funny. He was 4 people behind me on the floor and it took every once of restraint I had not to really do something about him. I almost felt bad because the kid was like 5'10" 150lbs soaking wet, and it would have been a bad scene.

I left after Damien as well and would love to know what went on between Fiona and the fans. Sucks that the tour had to wrap up that way.

On a better note, Damien and the gang were absolutely on fire...

That sounds horrendous. If anyone had made a *sound* during the one time I saw Lisa sing cold water I would have actually killed them! Luckily (for everyone ) it was dead quiet. What's wrong with people??

yeah it sounds a bit like Daniel Craig.

Yes, the bloody bond.

They mentioned on national Irish radio that he was being disruptive during a Damien Rice concert and was hurling abuse at Damien in an attempt to impress his girlfriend at the time.

i would kick his ass; 007 or not.

(they mentioned this on the Ray D'arcy show from a listener about 8 months ago)

Depends if you count a really sloshed version of Blower's Daughter with Lisa bringing him more Scotch every couple of minutes

I was one of the first people to yell at the Lil' John kid to shut up too but I was afraid to go near him, fearing he might vomit on me...kid looked like all his Damien Rice pregaming was catching up really fast.

wow, i always disliked the borgata because it took good acts away from philly and charged 20 bucks more for them... but now i can dislike it even more for having many more drunken buffoons due to the casino.

err

And I didn't catch what the last song was. It was a cover song of some sort or some irish folk song. I'm sure someone else who was there could tell you.

I was about two shakes away from walking over and beating the **** out of the kid. Luckily I was with a friend of mine who would not have had that. Two of the girls who were a couple of people in front of us were rather annoying and I must say the one had the most annoying voice when she turned around every two seconds to find out what they had played so far so they could decide what song they should yell out.

I was disappointed in the crowd myself. A lot of people had the wrong idea of the sort of music that they play. It seemed like too many people seemed to be expecting it to be more like a traditional rock concert. However, we did meet a couple of girls in between sets who had never heard of Damien Rice before and were extremely pleased with what they heard.

Even will the ridiculousness around me, we had a great time. We only stuck around for about six of Fiona's songs. I saw her with Coldplay back in March and would have stuck around if I was still with my ex, but the girl I took really didn't have much interest in Fiona so we left to head back to our hotel.

I was about 4 people away from that stupid kid and my friend who had never heard of Damien Rice wanted to murder him. It seemed like when Damien first started talking to the crowd like he didn't want to put up with the nonsense and just gave up.

They were absolutely amazing though - and my friend is know a convert like I told her she would be!

And how about Cheers Darling? That was awesome!

I'm kinda disappointed that I left before I had a chance to see him come on stage with Fiona now, but I had to drive the entire length of Pennsylvania to be at work at 8am and barely made it as it was! Did they do anything spectacular?

the cover song that they did had lyrics with something like "gigolo joe" or something similar. definitely the word gigalo. gigolo john? lisa sang most of the lyrics. there was no guitar, mostly percussion and cello. it was a good 5 mins long and one of the most incredible things i've seen them do. i wish i knew what the name of the song was.

when damien came out later in the middle of fiona's set, he sat at the piano with her and sang part of "accidental babies" which led into "stand by me" which fiona sang with him. it was great fun.

fiona was the one who yelled at the audience. someone yelled "wrap it up" and she said "excuse me ****er? why the **** would you pay money to be somewhere where you don't want to be..." and it went on and on.

although the audience was a bit annoying, the show was incredible! i saw him play at jones beach and in central park last week, and this show blew the other two away! This performance was how i expected to see a damien show, with him talking in between songs. and i'm so glad i got to hear eskimo! it is a shame for thepeople yelling so loud that he just stopped talking though...but all in all this show was great!

Was anyone able to see what kind of scotch they were drinking?

The bottle looked like it could be Dewar's Black Label but that isn't a particularly fantastic of a bottle of scotch.

from fiona. the fan yelled "wrap it up" a few songs after damien sung with fiona. she was really pissed said sumthing along the lines of "excuse me fu*ker. I don't know who pays money for a fu*kin ticket to go to a concert and make fun of it. how bout you take that fu*kin ticket shove it up your fu*kin ass and get the fu*k out of here." then she sung a song dedicated to him, not sure what it was called tho but she said "fu*kin leave" during the song. then after the song she asked if he had really said "wrap it up" and told him that it was not much of an accomplishment to make her feel bad. and then she said somethin like "i had two surprises tonight, one positive (damien coming out for accidental babies) and one negative (the "wrap it up" loser), and i have to tell you that the positive one is the one that sticks with me most."

I was at this show and it was my first Damien and my first Fiona show. Damien totally got me hooked- he was amazing. I only knew The Blowers Daughter and Volcano- heard them on XM radio. He was great though, ecspecially loved "Me, My Yoke, And I" and the story behind "Cheers Darlin", he had "it was raining" on constant repeat- it was great. I was seriously considering losing my place in line to go and see if he was going to come out and sign things, but 2nd row standing was just too good to pass up. I was standing next to two girls, maybe college age, and I think they recorded a few videos- was anyone here standing next to me? Im 15, I have glasses, and I had on a red "i love fiona apple" shirt on. Let me know!

Not sure if there are any really big Fiona fans in here, but she was stellar. Get Gone dedicated to that asswipe was perfect!!! I give major kudos to the people who didnt kill Lil Jon. I would have. There was a drunk girl behind me who was talking and I told her to shutup. I dont really have a problem with people singing to the song (i certainly dont prefer it) but talking is so annoying.

This is my first post here, glad I found this site!

Vincent

P.S.- Does anyone happen to have a "Gently Johnny" mp3? OMG it was great!!!

Minus the assholes at the shows, it was unbelievable. I have been trying to seen Damien for a very long time and drove 8 hours to see the show. He was unbelievable it was better than I could have ever imagined. Fiona was pretty good too, I really did not know much of her stuff but she was crazy. She was punching herself in the head and was just randomly moving around. Overall is a fantastic show. I also don't remeber him preforming nine crimes

oh wow.. did it go like 'gently, gently johnny.. gently johnny my gigolo' ?? if so i know that song! it's from the soundtrack of an old movie called 'the wicker man'.. the band that did the music for the movie was called lodestone, i think they were a scottish band? but i looked and the band out there with that name now isn't the same one from 1973..

what an interesting choice for a cover.. does anyone else know the song? (or the movie) is it traditional? did lisa sing it at the gig? ah i love that film!

edit: i found an mp3 of the song i'm talking about.. could you folks who were at the gig go here and listen to it and let us know if it's the same song? i'm curious now..

Yes, Lisa sang it and it did have a traditional sound - but definitely with a Damien Rice spin to it. It was fantastic and was the last song in their set.

Hi, just dropping in to say thanks. I've been looking for "gently johnny" all week, I thought the title was "gigolo joe" too.

Bornalittlelate - I think I saw you there. I definitely saw a kid with a "I love Fiona" shirt on, unless there was more than one. I didn't record anything, I took some pictures but they all came out blurry anyway.

I have to chip in and agree that the audience was annoying, but the show was great and the venue was really nice.

If it was red, it was definitely me. I looked around to see if I was the only one with a fiona shirt on, and I think I was. I have glasses too, if that helps!
