No one's daughter vs Love one's daughter
Which is the right one in Volcano?? According to damienrice.com the right lyrics are "no one's daughter/allow me that"... here in the lyrics section is "love one's daughter"...
Being trying to carefully to the album version and some live ones too and I think Lisa sings "love" but not 100% sure... anyone help?? thanks!! |

I can hear the 'v' so if you say you can hear the 'l' then it must be 'Love one's daughter'!!!!

okay i know. there has been some dodginess over the lyrics on the website around here already... i dont take it as an ended debate.
when you think into it in Cold Water. what are the other lyrics? " .... ones daughter allow me that And i cant let go of your hand Lord can you hear me now Lord can you hear me now Lord can you hear me now Or am i Lost ************** for some people that may mean nothing but i think it leaves a certain pattern.

I disagree that love one's daughter makes more sense. Personally, I don't see how it makes any sense at all given what follows in the next line. I've always thought it was "no one's daughter: allow me that." In other words, "I'm not defined by who my parents are".

I don't think that it's "love" because of the "o"-sound. It really sounds almost like "loathe"... I don't really hear a "v". And "l" and "n" are quite close so maybe that's why some of us hear the "l". But "love" doesn't make sense to me. So it must be "no one's daughter".

I've always thought it was a reference to Blower's Daughter - you know, kind of like she's saying "I'm not that girl and I never will be".
Of course, I have no idea if this makes chronological sense as I'm not sure which was written first. When I sing along at the top of my lungs in my car I definitely sing "No one's daughter, allow me that" |

I always thought it was "No ones daughter", makes more sense to me at least.
It "crossfades" with Damo singing "lost" - maybe that's why the "no" sounds a little like "love"? Damn, that's a lot of "" |
