i'm glad lisa and marketa sang 'gently johnny' lisa sang it at the borgata and i wanted to hear it again but i couldnt find any recordings of it.
Vyvienne played a song and she said something aside to damien, he told her to tell us because she had a mic too; damien ended up telling us that some guy was beatboxing for vyvienne's song during soundcheck and she wanted him to come up and do it again so he called him up, his name is Derek and he's a Tower Theater employee. any how, here's the video i took of it i'm not sure what the song is called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZWaM00JNyE Last edited by Five Leaves Left; 12-16-2006 at 06:07 AM. |

It was an excellent show! The only problem was the annoying guy sitting in roughly the middle of the room who felt the need to fill every 2 seconds of silence on stage with his hooting or yelling out random song titles, or proclaiming his love for Lisa. It was ridiculously obnoxious. Sounded like a grown man, too. Whenever he felt the need to draw attention to himself, people around me would turn and look disgustedly in his general direction. Definitely an awesome show nevertheless.

So it's late and i'm tired and I just got back
I MET DAMIEN!!!! haha my friend and I waited for over 2 hours in the cold, and FINALLY, Damien came out, and he asked us why we were standing out in the cold and told us how cold we all looked. haha then we asked him for autographs and pictures and he said something like, "I don't like to do that kind of stuff anymore..." SO 2 FREAKING HOURS IN THE COLD AND I CANT EVEN GET AN AUTOGRAPH?! whatever. anyway he did give us all hugs, which was sweet...( i snuck in two! ) haha and we told him how great the show was and then he left. oh yeah and he did say he would be back in April for a show? i dont know if thats confirmed or what but thats what he told us when we asked. i'll post more tomorrow about how AWESOME the show was--let me just say, amie, eskimo, i remember (static in the speakers like whoa) and of course volcano were EXCELLENT. and i was surprised he started off with cross eyed bear but very happy!! haha and the beat boxer..justin? good times.

Hey guys...great show tonight!
Does anyone happen to write down the setlist by any chance tonight? I've been lurking for a while around these boards and site and finally saw Damien Live tonight so I figured I'd join up. -Mike |

Great show - still processing! The Swell Season were wonderful, and the crowd really loved them and they seemed to appreciate it a lot.
I should add that they literally went on at 7:59 - no joke. So if you want to see their set get there ontime. After the first four or five songs, Damien got quite chatty and pretty much told a story before each song (I enjoyed the "vegetarian nut diet" prelude to the Amie story and the I remember story and his impression of how it was originally this jolly Irish tune and then how he had to make it sad with an angry bit at the end) I can elaborate on the stories later - I have an antsy toddler on my knee. Highlights - Eskimo being sung at the front of the stage without mic. Singing Older Chests to the "stars" in the ceiling of the Tower. Vyv's rap with Derek (my "only in Philly" moment - love this town sometimes!) with Damo hopping offstage and taking a seat in the crowd to watch her. I Remember ended the main set and it rocked-out - I loved it! Acc Babies w/ the Tomo/Shane bit at the end that morphed into Slow (if that is what it is called). Must run - I have some pics and video - need to figure out what's good and worth posting. |

SO does anyone know why Damo doesn't give autographs/take pictures? I was just wondering if there was a specific reason I stood outside in the cold and froze my butt off for 2 hours (thus becoming a TRUE eskimo friend haha) and he wouldn't even scribble his name on my bag?

oh i was very happy with my two hugs haha
and i guess that does make sense, i was just bitter for freezing for 2 hours...he should have invited us all to sit and talk, oh well. I was really surprised he played Face as well anddd when he was talking to us he told us he went over the time limit, but we were like "It was excellent" and he's all "well thank you."

Swell Season
(may be out of order) 1. in the arms of this low 2. drowned out 3. falling slowly 4. marketa solo song 5. the moon 6. leave 7. star star damien (in order) 1. cross-eyed bear 2. cannonball 3. face 4. elephant 5. rootless tree (piano version) 6. rat within the grain 7. older chests 8. aimie 9.eskimo 10. 9 crimes 11. never leave you (Vyvienne w/ lisa and derek) 12. Volcano 13. Coconut skins 14. i remember ______________________________ 15. gently johnny (lisa and marketa) 16. accidental babies 17. slow 18. blower's daughter i recorded it but all i have is a microphone that plugs into my mp3 player and isnt designed to record music. so basically all the stories came out fine and the acoustic songs but even the medium loud stuff got distorted as expected. if nothing else better comes up in the next 2 weeks or so, i'll put some of the good ones up. |

I came up from northern Virginia to attend the show and got a flat tire on the way home, but it was absolutely worth it. I loved hearing the stories of what inspired the songs, and the spontaneous rapping! It really was an amazing night.

Sorry, those are the only videos I took, aside from meeting Damien Rice after the show (which I can upload if you want) and the freestyle rap but that's already been posted.
Here are some photos of the show: After the show, I waited in this alley with a bunch of other equally as cold people as myself and my girlfriend. (We were the ones that were playing tag for a while) Some people even left and went to get their car and sat in it. They filled up this truck with all of the band's equipment and everyone got all excited. Then the pulled up another truck to fill up! It was torture! But it was worth it: We got to meet Damien after the show. Then we saw their bus and showed the driver our ticket stub. He gave us a thumbs up. |
