Rootless Tree first US single
According to Tom Dunne on Today FM here, RT will be the first single from 9 for the states. He questioned how Damien is going to edit the F word out. good luck to him.
Today FM are also playing an ad for 9 "out Friday, with the singles 9 Crimes & Rootless Tree"

Interesting. I also wonder about the editing, though other singles have done it before.

But doesn't the US iTunes already have 9 Crimes out?
Hmm... the Canadian one does, so I wonder what'll happen here |

Well it certainly worked for NIN's "Closer" (no relation). I remember when I first bought "The Downward Spiral" and after hearing that song I said "WOW! Well that one will definitely never be a single".
Smart on Damo's part in a way. It immediately makes the statement that he's not doing the exact same kind of thing this record as on "O". That said, I'd be quite surprised if "Elephant" and "Accidental Babies" don't get released as other singles.

I guess he has released Woman Like A Man in the uk, that was totally unedited, just the normal live rude version.

They played one verse and just as I was expecting them to fade it out and go back to the studio, instead it kept playing to the chorus of "F**k you, F**k you, F**k you, F**k you and all that you do" unedited across the entire country. I thought it was funny anyway

And d'you know what's stranger? They played Dogs on the local radio here this afternoon... I thought I was hearing things... then I went and blasted the volume. Apparently they were recieving requests for Nine Crimes, but decided to play something more 'upbeat' on a Sunday afternoon. Anyway I just thought it was relly weird since non-singles usually don't get played on the radio...? |

They might just blank it out, so people would get the idea. They shouldn't even edit it...they should not disturb the beauty of the song. Make it an exception.

If they did woundn't quite a big part of the chorus be distorted then? It would sound strange, unlike other songs which only need one word to be blanked.

i think they'll just cut the word out of the chorus for radio edits unless damo recorded another version which i doubt... i might just start listening to the radio again just so i can hear how they edit it, hehe.

Damien sang a "clean" version of Woman Like a Man on KCRW, I think - it's on youtube somewhere, at any rate. It's contains such immortal lines as "You wanna be the MASTER of yourself" and, my personal favourite, "You wanna get MUCKED inside out"...

Good find, but that isn't the recording I meant. I think I was talking about this session: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH5Ulp4bxCY
He does Woman Like a Man in this, and you can hear Lisa stop singing at one point when it gets to the first swear.

He does this at kids shows too. It's not sacrificing the music for airtime, just being considerate of his audience.

i really can't get over how much i love this song. the chorus is just so emphatic. i think it would have worked with any lyrics other than "F**K YOU!" etc. but it just adds that extra bit of angst to it
easily my favourite song on the cd atm |
