Default would you describe him as feminist?

I mean his music affects me in a way only fiona apple and tori amos' could (he sang with tori and toured with fiona).. I am usually not drawn to many male singers but am absolutely in love with him and his music...

I know this sounds like a really stupid question- but would you describe him as a feminist? esp cuz of some of the lyrics in his songs strongly identify with the female side of things... anyway just curious about what your thoughts are

Probably not. "ism" generally implies that you've got something to be 'against', I wouldn't call him anti-anything. Also, he's obsessed with his own penis, and loads of his songs are about it, feminists usually aren't obsessed with their own penises.

I don't see what that has to do with feminism = advocacy of the equality of the sexes...

I like women. Really, I do like them.
I must be a feminist.

i doubt he is. i bet he's into hippy girls, but i doubt he's a feminist himself.

i'm not saying all feminists are hippies, i am a feminist, and i'm the farthest thing from a hippy.

I'm sure someone will hate what I'm about to say....

Every time I see someone of his stature associated with or compared to Tori Amos, I dry heave a little.

On to the question.

No, I'd describe him as a rare man. Some people only see what's directly in front of them or hear what they want to. I like to think he sees and hears things with more of a panoramic view with surround sound. When you're not running down a 'one-way street', you have a better understanding of the sexes (and your complete surroundings). Some thing a song is built of rhymes, where his is built of honesty and reason.

It's not shocking when I hear of people who don't like him because they think his songs make no sense. That happens with people who lack depth.

Apples aren't just red, when you look close enough you'll see various colors blended into the skin.

(I know I could have just said 'no' but that's not as fun)

If feminism is an STD, then Damien probably is Nikki Craft.

Damien is a male. That means he will do anything to get into a woman's pants. I repeat "anything!" Damien's lyrics express this abiding desire. Prime examples of this would include "Accidental Babies," "I Remember," "The Professor," and "Woman Like A Man."
Quote:
Come all ye reborn
Blow off my horn
I'm driving real hard
This is love, this is porn
Spoken like a true feminist.

I'm not sure whether Elaine Showalter would have written the lines "My god, my god my god gave me a rod". I don't know much about feminism, but its followers are not that obsessive about their John Thomases as Mir. Rice is.

I agree with a lot of what people have said here but mostly I think Revelate and AUDITY got it right.

On the one hand, I do believe Damien has a love and respect of women. I also think he understands what women want a hellova lot better than the majority of males out there. That being said, Damien is a PLAYER! He is horny and he knows what to say to get us that way too Truly...at the end of the day ..Damien is a MANNNN...in the best sense of the word. He knows how to make us hot and make us melt all at the same time...It's a rare talent.

I was at that gig where he burned the bra. It was really intimate! Afterwards we all sat in an empowerment circle and talked about the best way to banish menstrual cramps, and he bounced a couple of ideas about equal pay out there. What a woman...I mean. Man.

at a show a couple of years ago, Damien said he couldn't identify with the guys when he was young that lived and breathed sports but the obsession and loving of girls, that was him... He felt the guys on that one..

lol ........audity you are spot on...
