Thanks so much for sharing!!! Man the improvisation video is hilarious... also the video where he was recording everyone from his phone, very cool!

So jealous of all of you overseas who are getting to attend...I'm just going to keep crossing my fingers for a US appearance or a sudden windfall of money!!

^yes, I read here he did 2 new songs... but not sure, my German sucks if the 2nd newie was with the audience, maybe it's Back to Her Man, that he did in the aftershow in Paris also making us all sing the chorus

According to setlist.fm, that's the one. Don't think I've ever heard it, does a recording exist?

he played it at the aftershow in Paris but asked explicitly not to tape/put it on YT... but the chorus was very simple... and then she goes back to her man/ back to her man/ back, back to her man... It was slowy and kinda Cohen-esque, also in the lyrics...

At one point he asked whether any musicians were in the audience and invited a guy from the first row to play his original song on his guitar while he just sat down and watched him with a cigarette and a glass of wine. After Cheers Darlin' he asked what the weather was outside saying that if it's not raining he'll go busking to Charles Bridge after the show and told us to come over to Charles Bridge later. A bunch of us waited for him outside the venue and together with him we went through the streets of Prague to Charles Bridge where we sat down and played songs on guitars which some guys brought along to the gig and we sang like that for about three hours: during this time sometimes it was us entertaining Damien and sometimes he was entertaining us by playing his own songs. When most people left, Damien needed to find a toilet so like 10 of us went with him in search of a toilet (weird, I know) and then we ended up sitting in a tiny pub where he chatted to 2 of the fans and the rest of us continued to sing some more songs. I left at 4AM and he was still there! What a night! haha He kept saying that the Vienna gig is going to be awful because of the busking to early morning hours (his voice was tired, lots of wine was drunk and cigarettes smoked) and joked that he should probably call Vienna and tell them the gig is cancelled. I'm sure he'll do fine. That was the best gig I've been to.
Thanks for this review, marta!

*He played Eskimo in Prague too, I forgot about that one.

As for the new song ('elaborate pain') - one of the fans at the bridge asked Damo afterwards about the inspiration behind the song. Damien was quiet for a good while and then finally replied: 'I'm not telling you.' I thought he was going to say something though, I know he hardly ever gives song meanings but it almost looked like he wanted to tell us for a second.

I'm glad to hear you guys in Vienna had a great time as well! It's awesome that you got to record the show, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I can't believe anyone could call this lovely new song (No One Need Know) crap. The only possible criticism i could see having any merit is that the chorus is perhaps a tad simplistic. Apart from that minor quibble it has everything I look for in a good Damo song (poetic/literate/clever lyrics, charm, melody, sweetness, longing, interesting changes, great emotional build and extreme catchiness). I do have one request, though. If any of you guys are going to these Euro gigs (and especially if he's out there busking again afterwards) could someone try asking more specifically for a Barcelona song? Would love to see his reaction/ how he feels about pulling something out again from that project nowadays.

^at the Paris aftergig he talked a lot about the 10 Days to Barcelona trip cos half of the people there were from Barcelona and someone asked he talked about going to see Radiohead afterwards (which was the scope of the trip) but being disappointed about the gig...I was tempted to ask about the songs but I thought it could have been a bit rude and I didn't ask... but will do in the Italian aftershows

I like the 2nd part of the No One Need Know but I'm not crazy about the first part... the chorus is ok, I like that it's simple (the other newie Back to Her Man, also has a very simple chorus)...

but I find the lyrics to NONK kinda bad the bit about the pain in the knee and the dancing... ouch!! think I ever prefer the lyrics to Groovin

here's a video of The Box/Wild and Free from Vienna, poor video but great audio... and he explains the song a bit at the start... easy to see why the title should be The Box

Believe it.

Apart from the very short 30 second middle section, and especially because of the very high standards that Damien has set, this is a truly awful song.

All kudos to him for where and how he performed it though, I just pray this isn't one of the songs that makes the shortlist for the eventual new album.

To me what makes this sort of lame to say is that at the previous gig in Paris he asked people politely not to record or post the new stuff, and he's obviously not done with the songs. By calling something unfinished "crap" we may be cheating ourselves out of a great Damo classic once it's finished. I mean, I know if I saw people saying that my unfinished stuff was crap, I'd probably stop right there and not finish polishing it.

That said, despite feeling super guilty for even listening to the song, I personally loved it.

exactly! that´s why i didn´t undertand the "crap" tag... i mean, i couldn´t call "a crap" to a song who made him loose himself into it and sing it so passionately... definitely, despite the lyrics (i should listen more carefully, since i´m not an anglophone), there´s no way to think of it as "a crap song"... just my humble opinion.

Hi Guys. Here are some videos from the busking session in Prague. I was at the back so the quality is not as good as some of the others on here.

Stand By Me

No One Need Know

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Fool

Notsure what this is - it's familiar though - Lie La Lie?

Willie McBride

Grey Room

It was a crazy night. Due to other commitments I was only able to make the vey end of the "main" gig - I arrived for Accidental Babies, so saw that, Cheers Darlin', Prague, Blower's Daughter I think and then Amie... Plus the random dude he called up to play a song. I was glad I went along though for all of that alone, and then the busking was just an amazing add on at the end of the night.
