Before performing those new songs in Grado, he asked not to post them on youtube... So I'd say it would maybe be ok to share the songs on here, but on youtube they get thousands of views and they become known songs, and I think that's what Damien is trying to avoid, because music and lyrics are still raw and he's still playing a lot with them...
So, maybe Back To Her Man can be posted because it's already on youtube, but can we prevent other new songs from showing up too?

@glo:
did damien still show up yesterday? I was just way to tired waiting anymore.
However, nice meeting all the frequent eskimos here

As for the Firenze gig - can anybody tell me if this is right:
Google tells me that Cavea Del Nuovo Teatro Dell'opera is @ Viale Fratelli Rosselli 1. Correct?

I will make the songs of the grado aftershow avail to the other eskimos on dimeadozen if thats ok with damien...
There are not too many people downloading the new uploads - ~50 per torrent??.

Yes, he showed up, stayed a bit, only talking and not playing... It was too late and some of his friends wanted to go... some others wanted to stay and at some point I thought they were going to stay for an aftershow, but then Damien and his manager realized it was too late (almost 3 am) and so they all went away.

Dont trust google maps on the location of "Viale Fratelli Rosselli 1" - it sends you to the wrong place (behind the main railway station).

#1 is located down the street at piazza Vittorio Veneto (Velodromo is there)

Yes...this needs to be respected...thanks for mentioning this. If he trusts his fans with this....no fan should do anything to ruin that trust.....

Im surprised Damien is even familiar with the Web. Then does he know he has fans posting comments on the videos askin for a new record, at least he seems to have songs for a new record, but has no regard to when..oblivious seemingly

"No Man's land" (aka "Fields of France") is actually not a traditional Irish ballad. It was written by a non-Irishman in 1976 and was based on several earlier songs most notably two of America's most celebrated classics: the cowboy ballad "Streets of Laredo" and the early jazz standard "St. James infirmary" (both of which take their subject matter of tragic, untimely death from perhaps the most influential song in history "The Unfortunate Rake" an 18th Century British ballad which seemingly had endless variations in nearly every part of the world).

Me neither. Though I don't think it's the final product... He's still playin a lot with this one, and you can see that he's still not sure how he should end the song...

Good job on the "Comfort" lyrics, Chrysler. There were just two main corrections I'd make at the end:

It doesn't mean I will not change.
Just because I wanted you
It doesn't mean I'm able to.

How can I be for you?
All that you want me to?
And how can you be for me?
Something you can not be?

Personally, even though only one was praised so far, I'm blown away by both these new songs because while most folks disliked "What have You Done?" for its twangy nature; would you ever have dreamed in a million years that Damo'd come up with a rootsy hoedown number? I see why people thought it was a cover because although the tempo is akin to "Skins", its blues structured folk sounds like something the young Dylan would've wrote and though i've never heard the similarity before all those critics who compared Damo to David Gray early on seem to have had a point.

"Comfort" is, simply put, an instant classic. Melodically, it takes him in yet another uncharted direction that is just as impossibly beautiful and yet decidedly up-tempo. Again, he musically quotes a famous song ("A Groovy Kind of Love" which itself blatantly ripped off Clementi's Sonatine in G Major op 36 no 5 Rondo mvt) -in the first ten seconds this time- yet where he takes it from there is entirely original and thrillingly unexpected. Where "Bastard" was an almost silent whisper of regret in an empty room this one is a full-throated declaration. It's a sing-along anthem for the ages and if he ever releases it I think it could be a massive, worldwide hit.

Lyrics for "What have You Done?":

What have you done to her face? X2
Well, I saw her yesterday
Looked like something's been erased.
What have you done to her face?

What have you done to her smile? x2
Never seen her look so shy
In the corner like a child.
What have you done to her smile?

And you call yourself a man
But you still don't understand.
And you want it all to change
'Til you have it all your way
Everyone is different
And you want us all to be the same.
It's just a lie:
Open up your eyes.
What have you done to her smile?

What have you done to yourself? x2
You've been saying that you need help
Then you leave it on the shelf.
What have you done to yourself?

What have you done to her child? x2
Well you leave her in denial (note: he forgot the lyrics for a word or two so this may not be all of the line until we hear another version)
Insist she tempted you that night.
What have you done to her child?

And you call yourself a man
But you still don't understand.
And you want it all to change
'Til you have it all your way
Everyone is different
Ah, you want us all to be the same.
That's just a lie:
Open up your eyes.
It's just the stuff of war
That gives your devil his disguise.
Take off the chains:
Hurt is love restrained.
What have you done with your pain?

What have you done to your mind? x2
Sometimes it's crueler to be kind.
Sometimes you lose before you find.
What have you done to your mind?

I don't mean to be so hard. x2
I've so much more to say.
And I've done the very same.
In my own kind of way.

^thanks Spamlet... but there's this line that you wrote 'sometimes you lose before you fine'... shouldn't it be 'find'? actually initially I thought it was 'fight' but now I do hear 'find'

^yes, Joel Shearer was travelling with Damien for the last part of the tour and from Ferrara on also played drums for a couple songs per gig (Woman like a Man and Volcano)

as far as we know, both songs were played for the first time in Grado. I can ask the Icelandish people if those two were also done at the Reykjavyk sessions...

Thanks, Born!

Yeah, it was meant to be "find" but those keys are right next to each other and I proofread in a hurry yesterday so didn't catch the typo. Fixed now.

I really cannot stop listening to "Comfort". Had it on repeat for like an hour and I NEVER do that. It may have already made it into my Damo top ten.

Rio,

To our knowledge, this tour is the debut of both these songs (and BTHM but i'd argue that' song is basically a reworking of the earlier, far superior "Is That It, My Friend?"). I personally can't share with you since I got them from someone else. I'm afraid that since you're new you may have to wait awhile since we're dealing with a leaker (although I think we should have a good idea of who the main suspects are) and the taper may not want to trust anyone other than those of us they know wouldn't widely share/post on YT.
